Oliver went in for a baby bunny physical today. I am lucky to have such a great exotic vet barely 20 minutes away from where I live; she’s the same vet who sees my hedgehogs.

He was such a gooooood bunny! He sat quietly in my lap in the waiting room while I petted him. He loves to have his ears and noggin massaged, and while I was doing that he nearly fell asleep. Everyone in the waiting room was intrigued by him and they seemed surprise to hear that rabbits can live indoors. I can’t believe how many people still think they are “outdoor only” pets. Oliver is so sweet and expressive, I can’t imagine him being shut up in a hutch 24/7 with hardly any human contact.

Anyway, the vet examined him and said that he looks great. She says that he is going to be a biiiiig boy when he is fully grown. She estimated around 8-10lbs??? I couldn’t believe it because he is a Mini Lop. When I told her that, she said that he is still big for a Mini Lop for his age; she said that he might be a cross between a Mini Lop and a larger breed like a French Lop. Also, he won’t be ready to be neutered for another month or so. She said she wants to wait until he is a bit older so he will tolerate the anestesia better. Does this sound reasonable to you? He has already started spraying his pen and our furniture, but not often. He also sprayed a guest who came to our apartment, LOL.

Thanks for reading all that. Here are the promised pictures.

He loves to explore my school stuff, but he hardly chews anything.

        His favorite sleeping spot 😛

        Thanks for looking!

Awe he is cute! And he does seem big for a mini lop. He looks the same size as Eddie who’s a mini lop and is 3 years old. How old is he?

Everyone ooo’s and ahhh’s over mine when i take them to the vet. lol

Usually rabbits are ready for spay/neuter around 4-6 months old.

Mini Lops do not indeed live up to the word ‘mini.’ They should be renamed to giant lops LOL!!

            He is a cutie

In your welcome thread pics, I THOUGHT he looked waaaaay big for a young mini lop. He is so precious. He might be a pure mini lop, maybe with just abnormally large bunnies somewhere in his lineage. Who knows? It’s a mystery!

One more month doesn’t seem like too much longer to wait. Did you set up a neuter appt with them for next month? Don’t wait to schedule it UNTIL next month (and then they tell you they have no openings for another month!) It’s just putting up with him in the meantime. You can tape some newspaper to the walls around his pen for easy (easier!) clean-up.

We aren’t exactly sure of his birthday… we think early June? The vet confirmed that he’s young, just oversize, lol.

I didn’t make the appointment yet because the vet wasn’t sure of her availability. She only works out of that clinic a couple days a week. I am going to try to make the appointment soon, though. Poor Oliver, I’m going to be soooo nervous that day!

Well, lucky it’s a neuter instead of a spay then, for your nerves and his recovery!

He is BEAUTIFUL! I love his face. Don’t you just love when they flop out right next to you? Makes my heart melt every time. If he gets too big you can always give him to me, though I adopted a little guy I have a (not so secret) love and desire for a big boy or girl!

I have seen 4 months is a good age for neuters, so if you think he’s only 2 then it sounds reasonable to wait. Also very lucky to have a good exotic vet close by, there is not one in the whole county I live in, so it’s a half hour or more to any rabbit vets. And the rats? Forget about it – I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes to take them to see their vet!! I feel for you guys in dealing with the spraying, though – yuck!

Love that first pic. It’s like he’s saying “why yes, I do know that I’m a little cutie”.
