Doc said we get to play dress-up hershey's gotta wearva shirt untill the "thing" heals. and ive tried many different styles and she's taking everything off! anyone have ideas for bunny shirts and such.. it has to cover her dewlap.
its a frightening task. |

the vet said the cones dont work very well on bunnies so the best way to do this was have her wear a shirt.. |

I was given a cone for Smudge, and had to take it off. Poor thing couldn't eat or drink with it on  Is Hershey pulling at it, chewing through it? How is she getting it off? |

peeing on it is better than her taking it off. You can always wash it. And if it goes to her hips, then it shouldn't be in the way of her peeing anyway. |

LOL, I love the name of this thread!
I guess it is better that she pees on it, than pulling it off, so couldn't you just give her a couple of long "sweaters" to wear?
Or maybe you could make two holes for her front paws, so you won't be able to pull it off?

yeah thats what i've been doing.. (thee front paws thing) but everytime she grooms herself her paws go through the holes.. right now i have half a sock around her neck and were just hanging out in my bedroom.. it seems to be working fairly well.. just so long as she doesnt pull it off her head, she seems fine with it around her neck though.. |

I love fancy chickens - been trying to talk my parents into getting some hens for a while, they're not going for it!  Cute photos. I'm not sure how she gets her legs out while grooming? Is the shirt too loose? |

I had to keep Lolli's neck wrapped up and I considered it a feat accomplished if she couldn't get the gauze off within an hour of wrapping her up. LOL I'm sorry I don't have any ideas or advice for you. I just want to say that I know how frustrating it is. Those little buggers can get out of anything. haha |

Mir, what about something similar to those foam shower hat things you get for kids to stop shampoo getting in their eyes?
You could easily make something like this with a sheet of craft foam and make the head hole the appropriate size. You could cut the cone small enough so she can still groom most of herself and eat her cecatrophes but not able to reach the dewlap. The thing with clothes or bandages is I worry she'll ingest some of it when trying to remove it.

she hasnt eaten any of it yet.. but its damp because she keeps licking it. buin buns thats what the vet seems to think it might be.. over excessive grooming. hence the clothes.. karla. i thought it would grab attention and i'm sure many of you have dreamed of dressing your buns up at one point or another. maybe some of you have *cough monkeybun cough* jk so i thought you guys might have some idea's |

buin buns thats what the vet seems to think it might be.. over excessive grooming. hence the clothes.. I would try the applying the antibiotic ointment then. Nothing with pain relieve in it though. Even if she manages to lick it off, by the time she gets out of the clothes, enough should get absorbed to help and it won't hurt her. It would save you so much worry if you don't have to take her back since your mom doesn't want to pay. It cost me $350 for sutures and medication for Lollipop and I was in the same boat - if she continued to do it, I would've had to re-home or put her down cause I simply can't afford it. A $4 tube of ointment worked wonders! lol Also, see about trying to give her more things to do. I think Lolli just needed a bit more mental stimulation so a paper towel roll and some other papers to tear up seemed to work. |

I would not put any type of cone, collar, etc on the neck- since that is where the trouble spot it. I think soft fabric is fine- but absolutely nothing that could poke or rub on her neck. The sock idea sounds good. |

well its saturday.. and her lump is not getting worse. she's going to my dads with me untill wednesday. he lives an hour drive away.. she's gone before.. loves it so i'm planning on taking my x-pen, the small cage and have the litter box in it. (she's been enjoying having a blanket to lay on. and hasnt mesed outside the litterbox since) and a BUNCH of toys to keep her occupied.. my mom wont buy me hay untill she goes to the pet store to buy goldfish for the pond and weve been out of hay for almost 3 weeks.. so ive been giving the tons of grass and raspberry leaves and just got some mint from the neihbores. so they have unlimited of that stuff to subsitute. maybe my dad'll buy me hay if i tell him it willl distract hershey from attacking his suround sound.. (twix didnt like it last time she went so she bit the cord.) anything else i should bring to distract her? |

I winder if it is the lack of hay making her tug at her fur. Smudge didn't have any hay before I brought her home... being out of hay for 3 weeks just isn't good. |

I agree about the hay..hay and water. The very basics---two essential must have's for rabbit health. I know your mother is concerned about vet care, but hay is another way to help keep the vet need away. Can your father afford to get your bunny hay? |

yeah its only like $10 for a small thing at the pet store.. *sigh* i hate asking him for stuff because he's not as well off as my mom.
but hershey needs it and i know he wont mind contributing if its only $10
