Looking for a bunny hut for my new bunny, I saw this. A little pricey but shipping is free.  Knowing bunny's love of wicker, and it's small enough it wouldn't take up too much space in the pen. I think i would remove the lid so the white painted dots wouldn't pose a hazard.  I'd also substitute a grass mat for the cushion to discourage nibbling on the fabric. Otherwise, Does it look safe to you for a bunny? Thanks!

It's cute! Sort of suits little woodland creatures such as bunnies. Some sites say it's willow wicker which is safe but it looks like it has a finish on it to me. You might have to email to find out for sure. I wouldn't think to top would be an issue as they likely wouldn't chew that part...

BUT if you're only going to use the middle, minus the pillow & top, why pay for it all? I'd invest in the oxbow timothy bungalow. Nice hidey shape, edible and about a 3rd the price. Would the bungalow fit in Dustors area? The medium size one is 9" x 10" x 8".

Well, now that you've pointed out that they probably wouldn't chew on the top, Jerseygirl, with your known expertise - I might use the whole thing afterall!   I'm having a hard time resisting giving the little mushroom cottage to the little woodland creatures too.  I have an email to the seller in now, I'll let you know what they say.  I hope they don't tell me they don't know if it's treated and can't be bothered with calling the manufacturer.

I haven't tried the bungalow, but did give Buddie the Oxbow timothy tunnel and he loved it - every bite!  The thing with the bungalow is, it would be in pieces before my bunny got much use out of it as a shelter. Once he started taking it apart, he'd get an arm or leg caught in the twines of the tunnel when he'd try to go through it.  They don't last long. I thought this mushroom would be a little more permanent for my investment, if it's edible. One seller just calls it a "willow mushroom pet bed" and another says it's "natural" so I've got my fingers crossed.

Say, that might be something to suggest for the people whose bunny's are turning down hay - the Oxbow timothy bungalow & tunnel!  Somebody was just saying their bunny won't eat hay today.  They should try your suggestion.  Thanks!  Here's Buddie with his Oxbow timothy tunnel...while it was still in one piece!

Decisions, decisions! The willow or timothy?

Oh Buddie!  It's great you have so many pictures of the little fella.

Well...I say "They're not likely to chew that part..." but you never know with rabbits!  Another alternative is the willow tunnels like the timothy tunnel there.

How about THIS bunny hideout!  I've had this image saved for a while but I no longer know where I found it.

That's fabulous for a giant Flemish Giant mutation! lol I can see any appreciative bunny making a nice cozy abode in there. The flags are cute!

Jerseygirl and BinkyBunny, your posts about responding to old posts are well taken. Thanks for making me aware of my mistake, I saw at once that I had inadvertently responded to a post that you or someone had referred me to as reference, instead of going back to the original thread I had intended to respond to. You know the one I mean. So sorry, I didn't mean to mix it up like that. Thanks for catching the error. When I tried to find the original thread I had meant to respond to, I couldn't find it. Do you know which it is? Thanks!

It happens sometimes when the linked thread opens over the one you were reading. Don't worry, you're not the only one who does this! I mentioned it there because there had been a recent notice about it.

Were you wanting to post the information in the thread where BB had given the link? If so, that thread was called "My new buddy an well issues" in House Rabbit Q & A forum.

Thanks, Jerseygirl. Yes, I will post the info in the appropriate place. In the future, I will try to catch myself from jumping the gun and posting to an old reference. Thanks, Rabbitpam for your nice words, in the other thread. Sorry to all, for the confusion! Hope that's clear? lol

Jerseygirl and anyone who's interested, I got this response to my inquiry whether the willow mushroom hut is treated with anything?

Dear lashkay,

Hello,

I have just received your email regarding the LaMont Small Chanterelle Pet Bed. I have placed a call to the manufacturer and have found out that this product has no treatment and is made of all natural materials.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

James T. Rucki

What did you find on Amazon?, but CSNStores.com and Allpetfurniture.com have them too $64.95 with free shipping. I think I'll invest in one. That would be so cute, we could have a little toadstool bed community in our respective parts of the world, and post pictures of our buns in them!

lolz...Wow Jerz...that's some mansion! 0_0 I could afford a castle like that if the buns would let me move in with them!

That little mushroom hut is adorable but for the price! I wouldn't bother using it for the buns though, as they shred things like that in a thrice...but Jenna would love it methinks. ^_^
Mimzy, Pip & Fiver...yup...my day is all about them. :)

Oh goodness Mocha. Mimzmum would be having a heart attack if that was the case! I think it's just Jenna's fur under her neck that might have tricked you. I think she's wearing a little coat too.

Don't feel bad mocha...she has some frilly tendrils of fur around her neck that look odd in such a small picture.

Here's the original:

and one more for fun ^_^

Oh my goodness she pulls you in with those eyes! And the 2nd pic is a giggle.

Don't worry mocha. At first glance I thought she was wearing a tutu or a frill neck thing. A ruff. Ruff Ruff!

Hey, at least all those silly Halloween costumes I could never get the bunnies to wear have a purpose now. ^_^ lolz.....
Hm....I wonder if I could find a little Mario hat to go with the mushroom hut? And a moustache. And a pair of red overalls.

Okay, sorry lashkay. Enough talking about my dog in your thread. Truly. My apologies all around.

I think lashkay has started a new craze.   I'm googling mushroom huts right now.

This is one I've found so far...it's a DIY.

OMG...hedgehog! 0_0

Gosh, that's actually pretty swank! I wonder if I could put something together like that?

What I'm going to have to do is get some new beddies for Fiver and Pip here soon. But I'd also like to find something that Mimzy would finally cotton to that has a covering he can hide in. He'll never put up with plush carpeting, but I know he wants a hidey hole.

But what to get him that he can't destroy in five minutes?

 What a cute little dog!!!!

Since this is a post about a pet bed type thing, here's one I've been dying to get. It's not nearly as fun as a mushroom hut, but it looks cute.

It's actually a doll bed from IKEA. They have a lot of things that would be interesting to use for a pet of any kind. In fact that bed would be nice to use for a cat or dog too. A lot of their stuff comes unvarnished and what not. Here's the link:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10101664

In fact, if you go to ikeahacker.blogspot.com you can see lots of other people's ideas for uses of stuff from ikea as pet furniture. An example taken from that website:

Ikea Hacker has been on my faves list a while! I like seeing stuff used differently.
Ikea does have stuff that is safe for rabbits. They had these snack boxes that were made with untreated birch wood. Would have been good to make hidey boxes but they don't have then anymore

If you all have Home Goods or similar, they have a TON of wicker and other wood boxes, chests, etc. A good place to check for a possible bed base. The chests could work for a rabbit who likes a hidey hole, too. Unlike stuff I looked at at Home Depot, which was all varnished and treated, much of this stuff was not. And of course, half the usual prices is not bad either.

I think I may try Marshalls soon too. See what I can find.

I just bought a cat bed from Petco, since bun keeps getting on bed and flopping next to me, I thought maybe he wants something soft in his cage. $13 later he totally snubbed the thing, I'm going to try to rearrange his cage to fit it in differently (it's currently on top of his box/hidey house), but looks like it may be going to the parents' cats. At least there is almost always the option to regift.
