I’ve been noticing some little crusties around her nose and a bit around her eyes so even though Jeannie hadn’t been behaving any differently, I took her into the vet.  I had to drive 125 miles though becasue I’m living out of state for a summer internship and I’m not close to my regular bunny vet… I called and she referred me to another exotics vet, but I live in a small town over the summer, so I had to drive into “the city”.

The vet said Jeannie’s lungs sound fine, but she thought Jeannie had some sort of infection in her head/nose becasue of staining around Jeannie’s little nosie.  She did a culture of the nasal pagage, so we’ll get the results in about a week and then we’ll know what we’re dealing with.  She also flushed the ducts that run between the eyes and out through the nose and both were completely plugged up, and the vet even pulled a piece of hay out of one of them!  Poor Jean Bean!  I also got Leroy checked out, and he’s fine – for now – but he could pick up something from Jeannie.

So for the next ten days, I’ll be giving Jeannie 1 mg of Baytil (strawberry flavored!) 2x a day, and “Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sufates and Bacitracin Zinc” for her eyes 2x a day.  Once every 3rd day, Jeannie gets “Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone” in her eyes (it’s the same as the other, but this one has a steroid which, according to the vet, will help reduce the inflamation, but since buns are sensitive to steroids, she told me to only do it once every 3rd day (so every 6th dose) in place of the other stuff.

Please send vibes for Jeannie that she heals up quickly and that the culture doesn’t show anything else and vibes for Leroy that he doesn’t get sick!

Those are the same eye drops that Monkey has had in the past, both kinds. They cleared up her eye issues just fine, hopefully they do the same for little Jeannie!

Thanks MB and Brittany. I’m more concerned about getting Jeannie to hold still long enough to do her eye meds Thank goodness for the bunny burrito! And yeah… about the Baytril…. would it be weird if I’ve been tempted to try some after Jeannie’s meds are done…

Vibes for Jeanie. I honestly would not worry about Leroy getting sick either. But I’m sending him vibes as well. And yes, be very careful of steroids – rabbits are extremely sensitive to them.

Lol, not sure The bottle is practically empty after I finished the Baytril! You can really smell the aroma when you fill the syringe, lol.

Yeah… I was worried about running out. I’m supposed to give it for 10 days, but it doesnt look like I’m going to have enough.  Anyway I think I’m going to avoid the Baytril. I’ve reading up on it and looks like it’s toxic to humans!

Here are some pictures of Jeannie from this morning’s med session, looking very miserable – and yet she still has that disapproving look down pat…

She’s having a lot more nasal discharge now and you can see it in the pictures… I’m hoping that it’s becasue the meds for her eyes are flushing those ducts.  I’m also seeing more eye boogers, but she’s doing well at cleaning those off so it’s not getting crusty.  The combination of the sticky eye medicine and her fastidious grooming has resulted in her eye fur being practically glued in all directions.  She looks hilarious   And yes, the pink stuff is spilled Baytril… The syringe got stuck and I was pushing it and well… it spattered everywhere

                            Poor baby

The only advice I can give with Baytril is, let her smell the syringe. Chacha would try to suck the syringe. I would give a little bit at at time until the syringe was empty.

Thanks guys! I’m sure shell be fine – the vet knew what she was talking about, which was comforting. And now Jeannie’s on meds so hopefully that will clear up anything that’s going on.

Yeah, I was thinking about submitting that to DR, but I don’t have a caption…. thoughts?

They caption it for you! You can tell them that she is sick in the photo.
