I just got back yesterday from a week long vacation in Italy. While it was a wonderful vacation, it was soo stressful leaving behind my babies!

Our 4 dogs go to a boarder’s where they have air conditioned runs with running time in the yard each day. Our 4 cats and my 2 rabbits are taken care of by a sitter.

Well, the morning that we need to leave (at 9 am) I find weeds, with stickers on them, in the buns’ hay! I’d heard of that happening once out of a million wonderful reviews on this hay that I order. I have a 25 pound box of hay, and I’m about 1/3 through it all (after a few months of using it) and these weeds show up, of corse on the day that I can’t do a thing about it. I picked through it for about half an hour putting it into a separate box. I stuffed their baskets with hay and decided to just ask my friend (the pet-sitter) to forget about adding any more hay and just let them have unlimited pellets for the week. I stuffed their baskets a whole lot with the hay that I picked through before I left, so they still had hay (until the last day, when it ran out) but I didn’t want the sitter to have to pick through a whole bunch of hay to give them and me being a worried mess over it. I ordered more hay today, and I’m about to go pick through some more to last them these few days until it comes in. Of corse I’m going to be careful to watch and make sure this doesn’t happen again. I’m still going to use this hay, it’s really great and they really seem to love it.

If that wasn’t enough, halfway through the vacation the pet-sitter (by accident, of corse) locks herself out of our house. We begged a locksmith to unlock our house for them from Italy, sending faxes of signatures and such, and thankfully that got all worked out pretty quickly. But not without lots of stress!

So, basically… I wanted to complain.

Now, as a break from the stress (sarcasm), I am back to bonding!

Wow, that does sound stressful! I am always so anal about leaving my pets when I go anywhere (not that I ever go on vacation, lol. but when I go to CT to visit my parents I always have to make arrangements for my pets, and it always worries me). I’m glad that you were able to figure everything out.  My Oliver would be ecstatic over unlimited pellets, LOL.

Where did you go in Italy? I went with my school two years ago; we visited Rome, Chianti, Florence, Bologna, Milan, and Venice. I absolutely loved it. I dream of going back.

Thanks, yeah, I’m sitting here now picking through the hay LITERALLY one piece at a time. They’re not actually eating all that many pellets, maybe 2 table spoons a day compared to one normally? They’ve still had hay available to them, and still will now that I’m picking through some more. So I guess they like their hay enough not to totally fill themselves with those yummy pellets. I’m really surprised.

My dad went for work (got bought by an Italian company) to Bologna for a week, then me, my mom, and my sister went to meet him and we stayed in Rome for four days then Florence for three. I liked Florence the best. It was so hot! I need to introduce a few things to those Italians first and foremost: ceiling fans. Haha!

I am like that too when I left my buns home and was gone for a week.  I didn’t settle down til the 3rd day there when I asked their caretaker if they were eating.

Upon hearing yes I felt lots better and enjoyed myself.

Seeds in hay and on the day  you are leaving.   Very stressful.  Glad you are home to your non stressful life

Oh, and Benny escaped his cage for the first time ever. I don’t know how I managed to forget to add that!
Luckily he stayed under my bed after he got out and avoided all electrical cords. That’s after he pooped all over the floor in my room. Now there are multiple clips and shoe laces holding the doors securely closed on the cage.
