This is my friend Julia’s rescue that she started.  Jenny is a board member/foster/volunteer.  And no, they really don’t want your guinea pig donation LOL (the end of the video).

that’s a good interview (well, except for the piggie donation….lol), is she the founder? I’d been lurking on her site since my grandkids first got the piggies, about 3-4 years ago and saw your name as an angel last year when they took in all those guys from the exotic seizure.

I was planning on trying to adopt some of the hamsters until Charlie came along, that dude can eat his weight in greens every day.

Jenny isn’t the founder. Julia is – she would never go on TV – she doesn’t like doing that stuff.

Jenny did a great job on the interview! I met Julia about 10 years ago when we both volunteered at WildRescue.

I’m glad Charlie likes his greens LOL.

You do have to try to make it down to next year’s Hoedown – they do a great job! It’s a big fundraiser for them. They do piggy contests and have vet checks and adoptions and other stuff. They also sell tons of stuff at the event.

I hope to make the HoeDown next year. My work can be unpredictable, if we have a site launch or a grant project deadline I have to work a lot of weekends or be on call so it spoils a lot of out of town fun. I’d love to make that bunny health speech NTRS is putting on, but ;-(

I can not for the life of me remember where I saw it, but some rabbit group was fund raising and were selling small net bags full of bunny hair as ‘organic nesting materials for birds’ that you hung in the tree. That is a great use for brushings!

                Great Interview!
Nice to see good rescues getting some exposure. Lets hope this brings them some money/supplies/support.
I know when the rescue i volunteer with get’s some exposure we get double the amount of calls of peopel trying to get rid of their animals

Yeah, I’m afraid of that too Andi – I guess it’s the sour with the sweet. It’s hard to turn down publicity like this though.

This was mentioned in that Best Friends article I posted in the Rescue forum.

Thanks for posting that, and for the link, Sarita.

My boss’ family has piggies, and if you weren’t in Texas she’d be over there carting home more.
Right now they have Precious and Chestnut, because Elvis just passed away. They have trouble leaving the pet store for supplies without a piggie going home with them. Perfect candidates for rescuing instead. (How far is it to Texas from here? LOL)

I just got a fundraising idea: how expensive would it be to sell supplies, ie. food and litter, from a rescue? Or at a fundraiser? If they got it donated, or at a reduced price, people could buy from a rescue instead of a pet shop and both support the place and also be tempted to rescue a pet instead of buying one. Hard to start up cost wise, but maybe worth it.

RabbitPam alot of rescues do sell supplies (the guinea pig rescue does and the rabbit rescue I was with and now retired from does as well) so it’s very viable and a good way to make some money for the rescue – of course, you must have plenty of space to do this too – storage and display and stuff.

I buy my large boxes of Oxbow hay from the Dallas rescue, it’s the same price as online but I don’t have to pay shipping. And I get to pet bunnies!
