Okay, I’m sure someone has asked this before. But I really don’t understand why a bunny’s exuberance is called a “binky.” Isn’t that a baby’s blanket? Who decided that’s what it should be called?

I think it was just a term that caught on.  Here’s what the “Word Detective” has to say about the word:

We called pacifiers ‘dumbies’ when i was a kid, or a soother now a days.

My mom told me a story about when I was little, and getting ready to be a Big Girl, that every day, I’d go hold my binky over the garbage can, and every day I’d run away with it to my room. Until one day I decided I was a Big Girl and dropped it in

Yeah, so “binky” or “bink” is a term in all cases applied to an object, not an action. I have to admit, it kinda bothers me….says my obsessive compulsive self having to put things in order.

The term binky has been used for ages in reference to the bunny happy dance though too, so don’t let it bother you
