Our local shelter hardly ever has rabbits – one of my friends worked there for 3 years and they didn’t have any rabbits when she was there.

Anyway!  They have one now.  He is nuetered and microchipped and the adoption fee is $40.  I have been thinking about getting Tansy a friend, but…………………….the shelter rabbit is white with red eyes.    I know it’s stupid, but I’m not sure I would like a red eyed rabbit.  Also, they aren’t set up for a rabbit date, so I wouldn’t know how Tansy and this other rabbit would react until after I had adopted him.

        Help!  It is so tempting!

Aww =/ There is nothing wrong with REW rabbits!!! Bun has red eyes, they don’t bother me at all, I hardly notice them being “different.” Only issue you might ever find is that they are sensitive to cam flashes when you take photos :p

So they don’t have a spare room to have them meet?

I would say if you aren’t keen on the REW then pass until you meet the perfect match? Especially if you want to date with Tansy.

What’s wrong with red eyed whites? I think you should meet him to see what Tansy thinks and let Tansy decide.

I love the REW rabbits – I think the red eyes which are really rosy pink are fascinating and quite lovely. I also just love the white rabbits – white goes with everything :~)

There is nothing wrong with REW’s! Maybe they would let you take the bun home for a temporary “foster” to see how Tansy reacts to him. I did this with Dennis. I went and picked him up and gave them his adoption fee and they held onto it until I said that we were keeping him. Maybe it is something worth asking if they will let you do? If they do not have a spare room, what about a meeting in say the trunk of your car or backseat, if you would take Tansy in a cage or box put him on the front seat as to not “smell up” the neutral spots in the car. They do not even have a bathroom floor that you could take them into?!

Mt friend has a white bunny with red eyes.  I will admit it took me a bit to get used to her eyes.  I think it’s an illusion but her eyes usually seem milky blue with a reddish/rosy tinge to them.  Until she gets mad, then they turn red.  LOL   It’s not as weird or scary as it seems.  Especially if you are already familar with disapproving and huffy rabbits.  lol

I’m a big fan of REWs.  I adopted my REW about 2 years ago – he was a park dump : ( but he’s a sweet boy and I think a total cutie pie!  He’s scheduled to get fixed next month – he’s my first bun and I’ve learned alot from reading these forums.  The picture was taken with a cell phone so please excuse the quality.  I haven’t gotten around yet to getting a digital camera.

Why don’t you go in and see him just by yourself? A lot of people can be put off by the REW’s but I think you have to meet them in person. They really are sweet.

I am not fond of the white fur, red eye look but it shouldn’t stop one from checking out the bunnie. It might love Tansy boy!

Did you meet the bunny yet???

I have a REW lop and I as well find him truly beautiful. His eyes are blue and pink and just gorgeous. Most people either love or hate REWs but it’s not fair so many get turned down at shelters because of prejudice against their colour.

Anyone up to start a REW fan club????

You all were so good at convincing me to ‘just’ go look at him – I hope you feel like helping me through bonding!  LOL!

REW’s are albinos and kind of extra special. You’d love them too, Brittany, if you ever had one Also, Brittany, Neigey, my BEW, is flicking his feet at you for saying you are not fond of white! (j/k)

Awww! I called the shelter at 2pm to ask if he was still available and if I could see him. They said yes and I rushed over there after work at 4pm and he had been adopted already!
I hope his new family is good to him.

You guys are NOT going to believe what happened today!
My friend, that worked at the shelter, bought the rabbit for me and gave it to me as a surprise gift. I went with her to pick him up. She was going to bring him to my house and just surprise me with him! I’m so glad she didn’t do that!

He was housed in a room with small dogs – loud barking small dogs. Poor bun. They are really not set up for rabbits at all. It was a strange experience.

Sooooo I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.
I kept the new bun in my tub in the bathroom for a couple hours. Tansy thought the new bun was slightly interesting, but not too much.
Then I set up a pen in my basement. He went pee right away in the litter box, but then he pooed all over the pen and not in the litter box.

I think I might start a thread in the bonding section, because I’m going to need some help!

Here he is!  Sorry the light in the basement isn’t the greatest for pics at night.  I’m posting some more pics over in the bonding thread I started.

Do you think he is full grown?  He shelter said he was 2 years old and he weighs 7 pounds.  His ears just look so BIG for his body.

I think he is a little out of shape/overweight.  The shelter was only feeding him pellets, so now he is on the hay and fresh veggie diet.

Jerseygirl-  I’m Ok with it.  I don’t agree with giving pets as gifts, but I know she meant well and was trying to give me a gift that I really wanted.  When my Mom saw Kiwi and how cuddly he is she said, “Well, you would have gotten him anyway!”

I saw a REW boy at my nephews kindy yesterday. Such soft pink in the ears and eyes yet there is blue there. It’s pretty fascinating.
