I found the Fed Ex box when I got home from work. It's standing by my front door. I'm in Sammy's room and Sammy is under my bed.

It's heavy. I'm avoiding opening it. It means cleaning and redecorating. I want a maid.

Maybe I will open the box and wait until the weekend. Or just throw pellets under my bed and sleep in the xpen and let Sammy have the bedroom.

Oh you got yours.... I want mine! Maybe I should at least wait 24 hours before I start ringing the company and asking them where it is! Oh now we need pictures!

LOL
Mine was ordered from Amazon, so they had a link to track it. So I knew when it was in Indiana, and Orlando, and two towns north of here.

Ok. It's out of the box. It smells. (I have an oversensitive nose.)
I wiped it with a papertowel and will let it sit in the air for now. Is there a good way to clean it for the first time, so she doesn't chew any germs?
She's a bit scared of my doing something with this thing. It's big!

Um... how dare you post a word without having it set-up, decorated, and Sammy giving you the stink-eye from within it's walls?! I have half a mind to just delete this thread and allow you to start over when you're ready to "do it right"...

;o)

I didn't clean our xpens with anything... what does it smell like? Metal?

And yeah, what Beka said :~)

Are you sure you didn't get a used xpen that has already been "pre-marked" by an amorous, unneutered male rabbit?

I don't get no respect.

Maybe it was shipped via Cleveland, not Indiana. *Humph*

Yeeeeeessssssss, it smells like metal. *Duh* and a bit off, like a cleaner that was old, or musty box smell on top of that. Or feet.

Wow, that's a whole slew of issues... Probably the same as when you get a new rug, it has kind of a chemical smell to it. I wouldn't worry about it, it'll dissipate.

I think your x-pen came from outer space!

I have to tell you the truth though, I don't remember sitting around smelling my x-pen LOL :~)

It's either set it up, or smell it. She's just gonna smell it. Less work.

Yep. Just sittin' by the laptop smellin' the ole xpen. Another big summer night for Sammy's slave.

I will let it dissipate and see if it still smells in the morning. I'd go throw out the box right now, but some neighbor is having an arguement in the hall and Sammy is keeping a tight watch on the door, or the xpen, or both. I think tossing the box will help somewhat.

This is all your fault Pam. Had you set up the xpen and posted pics immediately, we wouldn't have to entertain ourselves in these nonsensical ways... we could be oohing and aahing over your handiwork...

Well, I think you are just going to have to let Sammy have the bed since you haven't gotten around to setting up her new home - quit smelling and start setting up - THUMP!

Here's a picture of it. I think I found the source of the feet smell. However, it still smelled after I threw out the box,

so I am back from my walkies to the dumpster and have sprinkled it with corn starch in the hope that it will absorb the rest.

Sammy is not getting too close. I am spent.

She ran down the hall and back, and I took this streaking bunny shot.

OK, it's morning now, and I still smell it but it's not as bad. The corn starch didn't do much. I think I need to open it out and wash it.
Serious question, PLEASE. I am thinking of spraying Lysol on it before I leave to kill any germs it may have acquired since I'm pretty sure it was in someone's warehouse in the heat before shipping, thus the smell. But would that be harmful to Sammy later on? I also have the Natural Cleaner that's safe for pets that I could wash it with, so maybe I will just do that this evening.

I'm a little intimidated since it's so big, which means I have to rearrange a whole room of furniture. Would have been easier on my vacation last week, I know, but c'est la vie. I also heard of a place my office uses to buy coroplast, so will check that out today for flooring. Otherwise, it's bopping over to You-Know-Where (don't tell Petzy) or BJ's to get a rug.

Honestly RabbitPam I never ever cleaned mine and my rabbits are just fine. I'm sure that no one touches it once it's in the box. Just put it out and she will be fine - millions of animals have used these pens and I'm sure their owners did not wash them and they are fine.

Are you sure the feet smell isn't from your Birks laying right next to it?! Lol...

Do you know where you want to have it in the living room? I think rearranging furniture and stuff is FUN, it's like you're getting a whole new apartment... without having to move!

I like rearranging too, but not at the end of a busy work day. Will probably wait until the weekend, ie. Sunday, to really arrange it.
My boss thought a rug was messier than flooring, and suggested Big Lots for square tiles. Found a box I liked for ten bucks, but they are adhesive backed, so would need something to sticlk them too. May return them.

so I opened it up this morning and now the smell is completely gone. And yes, Beka, it was all the shoes. LOL

No, mocha, it wasn't really the shoes at all. (ok, maybe a wee bit.) I am pretty sure it was the cardboard and the plastic wrapping that had been in a very hot truck and warehouse for a long time. Once I threw it all out, and expanded the pen to get the air circulating, it was all gone. It's now just faintly metallic, which is normal.

Sammy has been very nervous this week, but I'm back at work and she's hearing noises plus things are starting to be rearranged. She was sweet with kisses this morning and begging for nanners. If I could think of something cheap to stick the tiles onto, I'd like to keep them.

See if you can get some thin ply wood boards I did that with the base of one of my cages.

Glad to see the smell is gone!
