I found the Fed Ex box when I got home from work. It’s standing by my front door. I’m in Sammy’s room and Sammy is under my bed.
It’s heavy. I’m avoiding opening it. It means cleaning and redecorating. I want a maid.
Maybe I will open the box and wait until the weekend. Or just throw pellets under my bed and sleep in the xpen and let Sammy have the bedroom.
Oh you got yours…. I want mine! Maybe I should at least wait 24 hours before I start ringing the company and asking them where it is! Oh now we need pictures!
LOL
Mine was ordered from Amazon, so they had a link to track it. So I knew when it was in Indiana, and Orlando, and two towns north of here.
Thanks for saying that I just tracked mine and found out where it is. Hopefully it will be here by Friday!
Ok. It’s out of the box. It smells. (I have an oversensitive nose.)
I wiped it with a papertowel and will let it sit in the air for now. Is there a good way to clean it for the first time, so she doesn’t chew any germs?
She’s a bit scared of my doing something with this thing. It’s big!
Um… how dare you post a word without having it set-up, decorated, and Sammy giving you the stink-eye from within it’s walls?! I have half a mind to just delete this thread and allow you to start over when you’re ready to “do it right”…
;o)
I didn’t clean our xpens with anything… what does it smell like? Metal?
LOL – yeah, tell us more about this weird odor emitting from your x-pen.
And yeah, what Beka said :~)
Are you sure you didn’t get a used xpen that has already been “pre-marked” by an amorous, unneutered male rabbit?
I don’t get no respect.
Maybe it was shipped via Cleveland, not Indiana. *Humph*
Yeeeeeessssssss, it smells like metal. *Duh* and a bit off, like a cleaner that was old, or musty box smell on top of that. Or feet.
Wow, that’s a whole slew of issues… Probably the same as when you get a new rug, it has kind of a chemical smell to it. I wouldn’t worry about it, it’ll dissipate.
I think your x-pen came from outer space!
I have to tell you the truth though, I don’t remember sitting around smelling my x-pen LOL :~)
It’s either set it up, or smell it. She’s just gonna smell it. Less work.
Yep. Just sittin’ by the laptop smellin’ the ole xpen. Another big summer night for Sammy’s slave.
I will let it dissipate and see if it still smells in the morning. I’d go throw out the box right now, but some neighbor is having an arguement in the hall and Sammy is keeping a tight watch on the door, or the xpen, or both. I think tossing the box will help somewhat.
It’ll certainly help MORE than YOU GUYS!
This is all your fault Pam. Had you set up the xpen and posted pics immediately, we wouldn’t have to entertain ourselves in these nonsensical ways… we could be oohing and aahing over your handiwork…
Well, I think you are just going to have to let Sammy have the bed since you haven’t gotten around to setting up her new home – quit smelling and start setting up – THUMP!
lol! You guys are silly…
…so Pam. You done smelling it yet? Should we have an Intervention here? We don’t want a case of xpen smelling to spread you know…
Here’s a picture of it. I think I found the source of the feet smell. However, it still smelled after I threw out the box,
so I am back from my walkies to the dumpster and have sprinkled it with corn starch in the hope that it will absorb the rest.
Sammy is not getting too close. I am spent.
She ran down the hall and back, and I took this streaking bunny shot.
haha cute blurry pic!
LOL Feet?? I am going to be getting an Xpen soon for Honey Bunny. I wonder where it is you got this Xpen from. I certainly don’t want one that smells like feet! ahhahaa
she said she got it from amazon.
OK, it’s morning now, and I still smell it but it’s not as bad. The corn starch didn’t do much. I think I need to open it out and wash it.
Serious question, PLEASE. I am thinking of spraying Lysol on it before I leave to kill any germs it may have acquired since I’m pretty sure it was in someone’s warehouse in the heat before shipping, thus the smell. But would that be harmful to Sammy later on? I also have the Natural Cleaner that’s safe for pets that I could wash it with, so maybe I will just do that this evening.
I’m a little intimidated since it’s so big, which means I have to rearrange a whole room of furniture. Would have been easier on my vacation last week, I know, but c’est la vie. I also heard of a place my office uses to buy coroplast, so will check that out today for flooring. Otherwise, it’s bopping over to You-Know-Where (don’t tell Petzy) or BJ’s to get a rug.
Honestly RabbitPam I never ever cleaned mine and my rabbits are just fine. I’m sure that no one touches it once it’s in the box. Just put it out and she will be fine – millions of animals have used these pens and I’m sure their owners did not wash them and they are fine.
Are you sure the feet smell isn’t from your Birks laying right next to it?! Lol…
Do you know where you want to have it in the living room? I think rearranging furniture and stuff is FUN, it’s like you’re getting a whole new apartment… without having to move!
I LOVE redoing my bunny room! ( / my bed room) is so fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but it is all i can do to keep myself from redoing it every day! but i think i found the perfect setup!
I like rearranging too, but not at the end of a busy work day. Will probably wait until the weekend, ie. Sunday, to really arrange it.
My boss thought a rug was messier than flooring, and suggested Big Lots for square tiles. Found a box I liked for ten bucks, but they are adhesive backed, so would need something to sticlk them too. May return them.
so I opened it up this morning and now the smell is completely gone. And yes, Beka, it was all the shoes. LOL
was it really the shoes the whole time? LoL. glad the smell is gone…… yeah i don’t like to redo every thing when i am busy and only have a little free time….. weekends are best!
No, mocha, it wasn’t really the shoes at all. (ok, maybe a wee bit.) I am pretty sure it was the cardboard and the plastic wrapping that had been in a very hot truck and warehouse for a long time. Once I threw it all out, and expanded the pen to get the air circulating, it was all gone. It’s now just faintly metallic, which is normal.
Sammy has been very nervous this week, but I’m back at work and she’s hearing noises plus things are starting to be rearranged. She was sweet with kisses this morning and begging for nanners. If I could think of something cheap to stick the tiles onto, I’d like to keep them.
See if you can get some thin ply wood boards I did that with the base of one of my cages.
Glad to see the smell is gone!
Good idea!
I use particle board with the linoleum over mine and then the carpet.
I just envy you the room to set UP a new xpen. I need somewhere else besides my teensy kitchen. Especially when there’s cooking going on. Makes the bunnies nervous.
Is Sammy just running around free these days otherwise? Because I have a feeling that once the pen is up and you expect her to remain within it’s walls, there may be a slight tussle.
How good is she at jumping? 0_o
BTW…LOVE the ZOOM image. xD Faster than a speeding bullet…more powerful than a locomotive…wait, what? ~_~
MM,
Don’t envy me too much – it’s the room with my Computer desk, TV, bookcase, storage case for bunny food, toys, and chair to watch TV.
I actually am trying to guess how small a piece of particle board, or two, I can purchase to have the most flexibility in initial set up. Might need to rearrange the whole room.
Sammy is not free range. She is out 1st thing in AM, has her routine, and must be called/coaxed back into cage for breakfast when I go to work. Then I let her out after work, and sometimes she’s allowed in my bedroom first just to get it out of her system. She likes a quick nap under the bed. She is running at the sound of the clicker, so that’s working to get her to come to me. She usually hops in and out of her cage throughout the night and I let her stay out later than Spockie. (10 instead of 8PM.) She runs for her night treat and bed, so no problem there.
She won’t jump. Anywhere, on anything. Not at all. Took the top off her current cage, she sniffed it a bit, then ignored it. I think her legs have never been that straight, so she’s an Under Bunny not an Over Bunny.
Did a search on our site here on flooring, and found several recommendations for vinyl sheets. Home Depot had a cut remnant of 4′ that he sold to me for 3′. It is stamped inspected PVC shower liner. I intend to put the tiles on it, so it makes the tiles stick to something waterproof, and is more flexible and mobile. Got cuter tiles at Big Lots, too. So now I just have to do it. Sound right to you guys?
Still considering particle board instead of sheet vinyl. Puff puff. Just rearranged bookcase & moved stuff out of room & vacuumed. Sammy is hiding under my bed, for the day it looks like.
I use vinyl over my particle board. My friend made me some “flooring” when I moved into my home for my pens. She put some boards across the back (I would just do 2 boards for one pen) and then used silicone grout stuff to “glue” it into place around the edges. Then I put my carpet on top.
It’s my birthday. I’m expecting a new set-up and pics uploaded before my birthday is over. Get going on that Pam!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEKA!
iT’S READY!
Here’s a link to the new thread:

the set-up is for beka?
lol ^
Happy Birthday Beka !!!
I got you a cake but you best be quick…
LOL Petzy, now I understand your post on my other thread.
Yes, give a girl what she asks for. I don’t know if Sammy will share like a nice girl though…Beka might get peed on.
(Just to clarify, Beka wants it finished and pix up by her bday. I’m not making one for her. Although, if she gets too rowdy on her bday, we might need a time out habitat for her…)
JG, where did you find that adorable pix?????
