My cat Nefera  is in critical care at the vet hospital today. We took her in this morning. It’s going to be a rough ride, I think. Please send her your vibes and prayers.

She was acting strange all week. Being very anti-social and sleeping alone in the bedroom all the time. And she threw up a couple of times this week. Her appetite was still pretty good. We were keeping an eye on her to see if we should bring her to the vet. Last night she seemed more lethargic than usual, she didn’t want us to pet her or be near her, and when we touched her sides, even lightly, she would meow. I stayed up all night with her, making sure she didn’t get worse. This morning I called the vet as soon as they opened and I brought her in right away. The blood work and x-ray reveals she has a cat form of pancreatitis. Her pancreas and intestines are very swollen. This condition is rare in cats (surprise, surprise that it happens to my cat…) and can be fatal. She said she could come out of it , if it’s treated very aggressively.  It seems to be in the earlier stages and Nefera is still very alert and full of life so the vet is hopeful. She ate some breakfast this morning. The next 24 hours are critical. She’s on iv fluids and pain meds and meds to decrease the swelling.  Sh can’t have food for 24 hours. The vet said the next 24 to 48 hours will make all the difference and if she pulls through, she has a good chance of recovery.

I’m so worried about her. I hate having to leave her there. I’m going to bring my bf to see her tonight (she’s mostly his cat. She was supposed to be mine but she loves her Daddy more) and bring her bed and stuffed mice that she loves. She’s only 9 years old. I got her when she was a year old from the SPCA. She had been a stray.  She’s very special to me.  I got her when I first moved in with my bf. I will be devastated if it comes to the worse. But I”m gonna think positive. I know that often when an animal is sick or injured, their will to live plays a huge part in whether they will recover or not. And her beautiful eyes are still very bright…

These pics do not do her justice. She is a very pretty color, like a Harlequin, with spots on her belly. She matches Stormy.  She’s always been a bit of a full figured gal despite the fact that she eats the same amount as my other cats.

Thanks for all the vibes. We went to visit Fera tonight. There is a family room with a couch and the vet brought her in with her iv stand and she sat on the couch with us for a half hour. She was glad to see her Daddy and she sat on his lap like she does at home. The vet is pleased with how she did today and hopefully she will keep improving so we can bring her home tomorrow night or Saturday but she still has a way to go.

ps. her neighbour is a very itty bitty witty baby black mini rex. Him and his 3 brothers were orphaned and brought to the clinic. All the others got adopted but all the techs fell in love with this guy so they are going to keep him. I picked him up and felt like making a run for the car with him. I’ve never held one so little! Squeeeeeeeee…..

I am glad she is doing better. When I worked at a vet office, it was always nice to see the families come in to visit their pets. It perked them up. I always felt bad for the ones who had no one that would visit, they were always mopey, but they got extra special attention from me! I bet she was happy to see Mommy and Daddy! That is nice too that they have a room that is more comfortable for you to visit in.

That little bunny makes me want to squeee!!! He sounds so cute! “Anyone watching?!….*looks both ways*…RUN!”

All the best healing vibes to your dear kitty ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Nefara))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) What a lovely name she has! Is it a derivative of Nefertiti, perchance? She looks like a regal feline who would’ve been lovingly worshiped by the Egyptians.
When I first began reading the post, I was very worried thinking she might have come down with FIP, but although pancreatitis can be painful and a rather obnoxious disease when you’re trying to get a handle on it (thinking of hubby who has had it for two years or more) it can be controlled if caught early. And your vet sounds absolutely lovely as well, with a sitting room for owners and their pets? What a fabulous idea!
When Shadow was recovering from his GDV surgery, he’d had to stay at the hospital for about four days. It was agonizing not being able to see him during that time, (we live 30 miles out from town), and his homecoming was a blessed relief because we all worried ourselves sick over him. I know he had to have been thinking we’d just left him there.

D’awes…widdle bwack bunneez! ^_^ Yeah, the mini-rex babies are like little plushies, they are so fascinatingly unreal in their softness and cute-ittude!

Mimzmum- Nefera means “Beautiful” and when I saw her I thought she was such a beautiful color, the name fit.

I think it’s really great that there is a family room at my vets. She is the greatest vet, I don’t know what I would do without her.

Just got a call from the vet. She isn’t doing as well as the vet was hoping for her to be at this point. She definitely won’t be coming home today
She is still sore and they had to give her 3 more meds this morning. I will have to find out what it was they gave her when we go see her tonight. My friend, who is the tech called me and she said Fera is not happy when they give her the needles and she’s not afraid to show it. That’s typical of her. She can be very hissy and scratchy when she’s not happy!

It’s not the worst news but I was really hoping to bring her home tonight. The other cats, especially my boy Andy, are really concerned. They know something is wrong, that she’s missing. He keeps going from room to room, meowing really loudly. It’s really sad.

We brought Nefera home last night. The vet is very pleased with how well she did over the weekend. She still has some recovering to do but at least she is home with us now. We visited her every day she was in the hospital and it was hard, she was on her iv and it was heartbreaking to leave her.

I have to give her a med before she eats and she has to eat 6x a day for the next little while. No day trips for me, but she’s worth it. She was happy to sleep on the bed with us last night. I gave her a little catnip toy that I bought for her “welcome home” and she played with it this morning, rolling on the floor with it for 20 minutes.

I’m so glad that I brought her in when I did, the vet said if I hadn’t of brought her in Thursday a.m. she more than likely would not have survived the weekend.

Thank you all for your wonderful Binky Bunny Vibes!!

About catnip…. I had 2 kitties awhile back, Brat and Sassy. They were sisters. The first time I gave them catnip, Brat planted her face on the floor, her front paws on either side of her head, ad refused to move from the pile. Poor Sassy never got a taste that time lol.

Good vibes being sent this way for your cat. I have 3 of them and have spent $1400 this year alone on grooms and dentistry work for 2 of them. (Persians) The other one is just a calico but she’s special and sweet. Even prefers to go outside to use the restroom.

                                                  Hope everything turns out well!
