I got a warning from my computer system that system memory was very low the other evening after I had tried to acknowledge someone’s helpful posting to me and got another error message and couldn’t respond. So to anyone who was due thanks for their help, please know I mean to thank you but my computer wouldn’t let me, sorry. Thanks very much anyway.

By way of following up to my previous thread, I found aloe, an ingredient in the organic cornstarch baby powder I found online, is poisonous to bunnies so opted for an organic edible grade cornstarch baby powder from Australia to lubricate his fur mats from Dana Krempels’ suggestion, that has oil of French lavender as its only other organic ingredient. I didn’t find French lavender or lavender on any toxic or poison lists. I should think it should be safe if Dustor gets a little on his tongue and anyway the taste may deter him from continuing licking that part.

Since I seem to be in the market for a new computer system, what do you recommend for high longevity and powerful memory that hopefully doesn’t cost too much?  in case I get an error message and can’t acknowledge any posts directly until I get a new system, THANKIES IN ADVANCE FOR ”YOUR SUGGESTIONS, INPUT HELP AND INTEREST!  They are MUCH APPRECIATED! – Lashkay

my hubby had this problem, and we know for a fact his memory isn’t low (8 gigs low? LOL) I think it had to do with the pagefile or something. he moved it to a larger drive and he hasn’t had the issue since.

For a new computer, build one yourself rather than buying one out of a box. Cheaper, and you can get exactly what you want. Mine cost me under 800, for a full on gaming system thats better than my hubby’s

Maybe I can move my stuff to a larger drive then. Probably building one myself is the best solution, but unfortunately I’m all thumbs in electronics as in greenhouse endeavors in growing plants – and I don’t mean GREEN thumbs, either! LOL Can you give me some direction as to how to go about building one, would you recommend building from a DELL? Or is that still considered one out of the box? Any guidance you can offer would be much appreciated, because the “computers for Dummies” books were written for folk like me! Thanks, Monkeybun!

ew Dell… lol. I get all my computer parts at a local parts store. Then me and hubby put them together ourselves. Not everyone knows how to though, so I suppose “building” one online or something from Dell and having it shipped wouldn’t be a bad option.

Try moving stuff to a larger drive first, see if that works.

I’ll look into both options. Possible trouble may be I have an old Compaq Presario with Windows98. Thanks again!

Have you done a ‘Disk Cleanup’ and a ‘Disk Defrag’ lately?
At work I get the low memory error all the time, I just to a disk cleanup (deleted all old files from the internet and stuff), I do it often and I don’t get the errors very much anymore.
Surfing the net stores so much crap in our computers, it adds up.

You can get a desktop model from somewhere like TigerDirect pretty cheaply. My work computer at home I got with only Windows not all the ‘free’ software they want to pile on and it was only like $500 and put my own programs.

I also splurged on a $65 external hard drive that I can plug in and save all my photos, music and documents to, leaving my main hard drive free to just run programs.

Don’t knock Windows 98….. I had it long after everyone in the office had upgraded to those horrible versions between 98 and XP. Somedays, mine was the only computer that would run decently and I refused to upgrade until XP pro proved to be just as stable.

Andi, thanks, I just clicked on Tools/Internet Options/Delete Cookies/Clear History and I think it helped.  Things seem to be back to normal. Should I also click on “Delete Files”? I don’t want to delete anything too much that I need.  Thanks!

Kralspace, I’m with you. My Windows 98 and my old Compaq Presario from the 90’s, I forget what year, has been serving me fairly well for the most part, all this time.  I didn’t know about the horrible operating systems and that xp pro is a good one…what I don’t know about computers and electronics could fill the Grand Canyon!  Thanks for the tips, if my movie posters on eBay sell for several hundred dollars, or next month, I’ll definitely look into the things you suggested.  Nice to see you and thanks again!    Now if this Australian baby powder does the trick on Dustor’s mats….wonder what THAT grooming session will be like! lol

Toshiba   last longer.   Dell isn’t so good anymore.  Hewlett Packards are good.

You can buy a harddrive to plug into your computer.   A USB plug in.  Just don’t leave it plugged in to the wall if you get that kind cuz elec can zap it.

They run 50-100.00    When I was having trouble w/Pinky I kept going across the street to Office Depot and asking questions.   My mom mentioned the portable plug in harddrive.  I went over n asked questions about it.  Not a bad idea.

You can get USB only plug in  or USB and wall plug in.   Wouldn’t recomment the wall plug in one.

Ah yes External Harddrive is what it is called.  Kralspace mentioned it.

Toshiba laptop lasts longer.  XP is great.  Vista has so many incompatability issues I hate it.

Now Win 7 is great.  I love it better than xp.

I got tired of seeing trial session on microsoft office expired I deleted the whole microsoft office.  Gives you more space too.  Different people will tell you different things about having or not having Microsoft office.  Complete opposite things so I am not really sure about any difference in having it as opposed to not having it.

Personally I haven’t noticed any difference.  I never used it anyways

I think I will get an external harddrive USB plug-in, not wall plug in. Thanks for the tip-off about that. Toshiba sounds like a good way to go in a laptop. I’ve also heard good things about Samsung. Thanks for the suggestions, Bunnytowne!
