Hey guys! So Lindsey (Lintini) posted on my facebook asking where I’ve been and that made me realize that I have been kind of quiet on BB… I’ve been keeping up kinda with the threads, but not posting much since I’ve been riduclously busy since about the middle of May…. I got Nick and then I had finals for school, and then I moved, and then I started my internship, and things have just been really hectic around here. So.. I apologize for dissappearing on you guys! (And if you didn’t notice my absense, then just disregard this )
Ok so… a year ago from July 5 (so July 5, 2009) I adopted Leroy! So he’s been with me a year already! It’s hard to imagine life before him though. He seems to have completed me, and his arrival in my home also opened the flood gates for more furbabies So first of all, happy anniversary Leroy! He’s about two years old now.
I joined BB shortly after getting Leroy, so I guess it’s kinda my anniversary too.
Leroy and Jeannie are doing well and they are so in love it’s ridiculous sometimes. They are definitely enjoying their new ex-pen I set up for them (finally got so sick of the two crates joined together that I spluged on an ex-pen). It’s only 30 inches high and Leroy’s gotten over it twice in one months… guess I should have bought the higher one, whoops, lol
The bunnies could care less about Nick (dog) and it’s the funniest thing to see the bunnies poke their noses though the bars of their ex-pen to greet Nick when I invite him in (the buns are in my bedroom). Nick is doing very well with them while they’re in their pen, he usually gives them a sniff or two, scarfs down any loose poos that he can find outside their pen or snag with his tongue through the pen, and then goes and lays down in the corner. I haven’t let them out together yet… I’m taking it very slowly, and actually, I may never let the dog and buns out together. They are never together unsupervised.
I’ve also been doing a TON of work with Nicodemus aka Nick. He was VERY timid when I first got him and I suspect he’d been abused. He’s much more outgoing, though if a man moves too quickly around Nick, he still shows a bit of fearfulness. I’ve been working hard with him to get him socialized. He used to be TERRIBLE about barking at other dogs. My parent’s lab is not at all vocal and I really can’t stand those yappy little dogs that bark at you if you so much as wiggle a toe in their prescence… Well, Nick seemed quiet enough at the shelter, but I soon realized that part of that was just becasue he was so frightened. When he came home with me and opened up in the first few weeks I found out that he had a horrible habit of barking at other dogs when we were on walks. Not aggressively; he just got overexcited when he saw other dogs. It’s so embarrasing to be THAT girl with THAT annoying dog… people assume he’s being aggressive, even though he’s really not, so I’ve been clicker training him and taking him to dog parks occasionally since he’s finally up to date on all his shots (had to finish the puppy series of distemper/parvo, since I don’t know his medical history), and he’s doing SO much better. He walks on a loose leash, knows all his basic obedience commands as well as “shake” and now only whines a bit now when he sees other dogs on our walks – we’re still working on it.
I’m so proud of hosw far he’s come in only 8 weeks! I’m working on getting him certified to be a therapy dog and to go to hospitals, nursing homes, schools and the like. He has a great temperment and is able to adjust his energy level based on his enviroment, so I think he’d do well as a therapy dog, and it would be so fun to volunteer with him!
Ok, enough rambling…. now for what you really want…
Leroy is the King of Flop!!!
Begging for me to let them out of the bedroom!
Nick got a red bow for the 4t of July. It made him feel very handsome
At the dog park, Nick climbed up on the picnic table to be in the middle of my conversation with some people, and from there he surveyed all the other dogs!
I think this picture is hilarious becasue they are about the same color and were standing in the exact same position for nearly a minute! Then they simultaneously turned and walked off in opposite directions
