I've noticed that Duke has a dry patch on his ear. It's rough and kind of leathery with no hair in the area. I don't know what this could be. I saw a post where someones bunny had bumps on his ear which turned out to be ear mites, but Duke doesn't have anything in the inside of his ear that I can see, just the back of it. My other bunny Beau had earmites when we got him and he had full blown cankers and he never had bumps on the outside of his ears. I tried to call the vet but they were closed for a holiday. Anyone have any experience with anything like this?

It is too difficult to really get a possible idea of what might be going on by looking at a picture.  But sometimes ear flap skin conditions can be caused by inner ear problems- such as mites, infection, swelling, etc.  Can you see anything by tring to look at the ear itself- in the ear?  Does the ear smell (infections can smell)?  Unfortunately with cats, dogs and bunnies- in order to see deep in the ear canal- where most problems start you need an otoscope and someone experienced to check the ear- to know what they are looking for and to not rupture the ear drum by poking into the ear too far.  The ear canal extends beyong what you can see by looking into the ear.

My friends rabbit had pseudomonas and it started out as a dry patch on the ear but Katnip is right - you need the vet to examine him to determine what it could be. I would be surprised if they could make a diagnosis over the phone.

Olivia had a small patch like what you describe right in front of one ear. I took her to the vet, I thought it might be furmites, but it turned to be just dry skin. She still has a bit of a dry patch there but all the fur grew back. You need a vet to be sure. Is he scratching there a lot?

Oh, no, I wasn't trying to get a diagnosis over the phone. I was trying to get an appointment. I have one today in a couple of hours.

It doesn't seem to bother him. He doesn't scratch it or anything and I can't see anything in his ear but it's hard to tell. I haven't noticed any odors... Idk I guess I'll find out later. I'll let you know what he says.

So I brought Duke to the vet. He checked in his ears and said they looked great so no mites. Then he used a wood's light? to check the areas and confirmed that it is a fungus. So he gave me a spray to spray on it 2x a day, and he said the rough areas should go away in a few days after which hair should start growing back. So hopefully the spray will help

Oh...interesting! Did he say what type of fungus? I know ring worm is actually a fungus but it's hard to tell from the photo -- just looked like dry scaly skin. Anyway, so glad you got a diagnosis. Let us know how it works. What was the spray?

It's a Miconazole Nitrate spray, which I read up in before applying it, but it seems that it's safe for rabbits. He didn't say it was a ringworm. He said we could culture it, but that it wasn't necessary. I think he was trying to save me money. But I did see fluorescent green specks when he used the wood's light, which I think is what happens with ringworm, but I haven't gotten any and I figure I would have caught it from him if so? Plus, it isn't a round shape and it doesn't have distinct edges. it's just kind of bumpy and scaly.
