We have to  get a new water heater and I was wondering if spending the extra $$ on a tankless system was worth it? I have heard stories that the water does not get hot enough. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them and could names some pros or cons! Thanks!

          I’m not sure. I’ve heard of them…

Here’s what Consumer Reports has to say… they seem to not think they’re so great…

I’ve had one for 3 years.  It’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought!  I’ve saved a lot of money with it and the water gets very hot.  The only thing is it takes 30 – 60 seconds to warm up the water – not instant hot water like a tank water heater gives.  The big selling point for me (besides saving money) was the fact that there isn’t any tank to leak.  That’s why I replaced my tank water heater, because it leaked all over the floor (wasting water, fuel and getting everything wet!).

Also, I live in Minnesota where we get -30 F winters.  I have the tank in my heated basement, but on an outside wall and it works just fine.

I have been wondering about those as well. Thanks, Catalina, for the little report I’d love to get one.

Thank you!! We had a water explosion in our bathroom this week and our tank is also so old that its rusted out so we have to get a new one and I have been trying to decide about these!! Can I ask if you had it installed by a plumber? Or from the place you bought it at? Or did you install it yourself? There is no way we can install it ourselves!!! lol Just wondering what the cheaper option is to have it installed !!

My Dad installed it for me and it’s a natural gas one, but I think they make electric ones too.
