I was reading the BunnyMaker’s Blog today.. and she may not be able to sell sock bunnies for much longer Some UK law saying they must conform to toy standards for flammability, dyes etc etc. Which most socks aren’t up to the standards because they are socks, not toys.

So, she is kind of in a quandry for bunnies. She has a few solutions, but none of em seem right for her. Stupid UK law.

Guess I’ll be having to buy up the buns I like now, just in case…

thebunnymaker.blogspot.com/ if you wants to read it.

I read that this morning, too.

I was wondering if she could make an arrangement to be an exclusive buyer of socks from one company if they can promise to meet the legal standards with anything they ship. I think she said the problem is the traces of metal in the flammable fabrics. Must be the decorative ones.

Are the fabrics in the US or Australia regulated more strictly? Or France, Denmark, etc. I just wonder if she can start ordering her fabric from overseas with more restricted laws for safety.

Oh dear! 0_o Poor Anna! How could they do that to her?
I’ve often thought of sending her socks from America to help her with her bunny making. I wonder if she’d accept such an offer?

Of course, perhaps it’s just like the restrictions on toys from China now, which aren’t up to certain standards. Too many lawsuits going around from silly people who allow their children to put anything in their mouths and then hue and cry when the kid gets sick. ~_~

Surely half the crafts sold on etsy don’t meet these standards. Could they just class them as craft items rather than toys?

I think we should get out pickets ready and march for a “Save the Sockbunny” campaign.

MM, my hubby said we should get a friend of hers who does knitting to spin and knit a bunch of angora socks to send to Anna to make bunnies with. Could you imagine a pure angora sock bunny? How snuggly would that be!

I constantly see socks around here that just scream ‘Make a Bunny out of Me!” I so wish I could just ship a big box off to her now and then of socks.

She said they can’t be re-classified as anything other than a toy, like a collectible.
She can put a warning on them saying Unsafe for anyone under age 14. Good grief.

If anyone has the time, lets find out if socks from here, like for kids, are safety regulated. If they are, we can let her know.

Wow…odd…I thought I’d referenced her post about the Rabbit Welfare Association. Apparently proceeds from her sales are going to help this organization, which I think is champion of her.
Perhaps that’s why she’s suddenly under the microscope? For donating to a charity? Or a competitor wants her bunnies off the market?

Definitely think we should get a group of us together to help her. I think it’s all well and good to be sure a plaything is safe for all to use, but I know of one person at least who makes beautiful plush animals from all the safest fabrics, but puts warnings on them that they are for display only, not for children to play with, and she does a booming business with no friction.

If what I am reading is correct, the US has the most strict of all the regulations world wide for childrens toys and apparel.. so maybe our US made socks would pass their tests there.

I’ll read into this later, since I am keeping an eye on ChaCha, but I am interested in reading the regulations on the Sock Bunnies.

Yeah, the US definitaly has the tightest restrictions. There is a lot of money that needs to be paid to be able to sell certain things

I need to get myself a Rainbow Sock Bunny..

I’ve been going through her bunnies and marking down which ones I want, so I can buy em up just in case So if anyone is contemplating a specific bunny, either let me know so I don’t buy it, or buy it quick
