My boyfriend got his flemmie baby today. He’s only 5 weeks old (too young to be away from mama, in my opinion, but that’s what the person who was getting rid of him wanted, and he seems to be devouring pellets and hay). He decided on Benjamin for his name.

I’m told he’s physically the size of Stormy, but my bf isn’t quite sure how much he weighs. Based on Stormy’s weight, I’m guesstimating 2- 2 1/2 lbs.

He’s already only peeing in the litterbox, and most of his poos are there too. He’s leaving little pellets all around the room, but he’s probably just marking.

I was just on the phone with my bf, and Ben was grooming his neck! He already loves his bunny slave.

Pictures off my bf’s facebook to follow. I apologize for bad quality; my bf doesn’t actually own a camera, so he’s using his phone for pics.

Oh he’s cute! I hope for your bf’s sake he’s not marking at 5 weeks…a little early.lol 5 weeks is so young to be away from mama. I hope the bun is nice and healthy.

Okay, I take back the only the litterbox thing… apparently he’s got two spots he likes. My bf says he comes running to him whenever he comes in the room.

(Oh gosh. 5 weeks. Why do breeders insist on taking these poor bunnies away from their mamas so darn young?!!?)

Make sure your boyfriend gets him into a vet within the next few weeks for a fecal test. If this person is unloading bunnies at such a young age, who knows what kind of conditions they were kept in.

From what I can tell, he looks cute. I’m looking forward to more pics.

I think it is not so much marking as him not use to going in a litter box. He was kept in decent conditions by the person that I got him from. He does enjoy eating and is starting to really explore all of my room. He seems to really like a recesses area of my room where I currently have his litter box, food, and water.

I hope to have a few better quality photos up by tomorrow. He is just so active it is hard to find him sitting still long enough to take a good pic.

Also if you could not guess this is Lis’ bf.

WELCOME!!! I’m so glad you’ve decided to join!

I’m glad to hear his conditions were good. You never can tell with breeders.

What is his cage like now? Baby bunnies are very messy. He’ll probably be like that for a few weeks, and then get better… just in time for hormones to kick in and get worse again… lol. But don’t worry…Baby bunnies (FORTUNATELY!!!) grow up! Don’t give him too much space too soon.

Right now his cage is my room. I live in an apartment and have made sure that he can not get under my bed (though I found out he still could until I made the wholes in the cage I used smaller), behind other things, or under my desk so the actual area that he has to play and roam around is not too large. Despite having my full room to roam around in he seems to like a 5 by 5 foot area right around his litter box.

In terms of getting him an actual cage, I would not have any room to live if I did that.

Also in terms of mess, I am fine with that. His messes are so much easier to clean up then my roommates dog and cat. (The bunny is kept separately from both)

Generally, you want to have new bunnies confined until they are spay/neutered with supervised exercise time. Can you make a makeshift pen out of NIC shelving grids? You’ll have decreased room for awhile, but it’ll only be temporary.

I ran out of the shelving grids bunny proofing the rest of my room. I can try and get some more to see what I can do. Also Lis will be helping me this weekend making sure that I have everything set up the way I should have it and that the bunny is healthy.

I’ll lend him Stormy’s old cage. It won’t last him for very long, since he’s going to be so big, but it should work while he’s a baby.
Although I’m thinking we may need to get wire cutters and make the door bigger. :p Although it did work well for Little and Pumpkin (the rexes I had as a child).
