I was hanging out with the bunnies today in my room and to my horror a little brown shrew or vole (i’m not sure what it was) ran across the floor to the cages. I caught it and put it outside but now I am terrified to hang out on the floor or even in the area. (I’m scared of mice/rats/rodents!) It wasn’t a mouse, but it looked similar. Just smaller with tiny ears and a very short tale. Very round and fat. I have no idea what to do! There must be more where that one came from… I have no idea why they would be attracted to the bunny room… I keep all of the pellets in an air sealed glass container and there isn’t any other treats out. All I have in there is a garbage bag full of hay… They wouldn’t be attracted to that would they? How do I get rid of them?! I don’t want to put poison or traps out… I like to let my bunnies run around. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Is there any way to safely repel rodents? I would keep a cat in there but my cats aren’t bunny safe. Ahhh, this is such a nightmare!

I’m so sorry you have this problem! I don’t have much help to give, sorry. About how big was is (you said mouse, but I’m still confused.) Did it look like it could be a hamster escapee or something? That’s what what I’m envisioning by how you described it.

Is there a way you could just rodent proof your bunny room? Do you know how it got in?

Definitely look and see if you can find where it got in. If you can fill that hole, might solve the problem.

I have no idea how it got in… The only way I could think is through the heater/vent. It was definitely not a hamster. It was weird because it was walking really slowly and ran right out into the middle of the room… Maybe it was a baby and was lost? It didn’t even try to run away… Very strange.

Well I don’t know what shrews or voles are but rodents will be attracted to hay. I never had a mouse problem here until I bought a bale of hay. Thankfully I think I got it under control. Your best bet is try find where they’re getting in and plug it up. I caught my mice in a tube with dry weetbix inside it. Then I released it. I think I might have caught the same one 4 times and that it kept getting back in!
