Occasionally, while Zeus is running around, he makes these VERY quiet little grunting/snorting sounds.  It's barely audible, the room has to be totally silent for you to hear it.  He usually does it when I'm playing with him by letting him chase me and such. .

What does this sound mean?  He only does it when we're playing and he's running.  The second he stops running, he stops making the little sound.

Sorry if my description isn't perfect!  It's hard to describe the sound.  It's kind of a very quiet "whf whf whf" sound.

Bwahaha, it means he wants to mate.. or something like that Or he is INCREDIBLY HAPPY to see you.. it must be time for him to get neutered. How old is your Zeus??

My little ChaCha used to make that noise ALL THE TIME around me, it sounded like 'mm, mm, mm." It was the MOST adorable noise ever!!

She got spayed in May, and I still hear it, it isn't quite as often.

I have heard my Phoebe do a sound like that (it was a constant rrr almost like a kitten) and she did it while she was chasing a ball which was her favorite game at this time. I still hear it but very rarely. I thought she did it cause she was playign and was happiness sound but after reading what you said it might be because she is unspayed

Sounds like he wants to mate with you! Haha. Usually that very quiet honking sound, often as they run circles around you, is like a mating dance.

Hahaha!  Well I guess that's better than aggression?

I means he loves you! But maybe not in the way you wanted ;-)

Usually it's an unneutered male behavior, but I've only heard Otto do it twice and it was long after he was neutered.

Not quite, no!

Zeus's new favorite love, however.. is my bathroom.  I never allowed him in there before because I had a rug down in there I didn't want him to chew up.  Well after fighting with him every time I had to go to the bathroom and trying to keep him out, I decided to just let him in, put the rug up and out of his reach, and let the novelty of THE FORBIDDEN ROOM wear off.

..for the last 3 days, he's spent almost every minute of his out of cage time in the bathroom.  There's NOTHING in there to play with or do, and it's dark because I don't turn the light on unless I'm in there.  But he sure loves hangin out in his new "lair".
