Did you know there was a phobia for fear of rabbits? I had no idea.
I found this on-line about a teacher who was afraid of rabbits – which is good because it means that she’ll never have a rabbit as a classroom pet.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/…bunny.html
I had to look up what it was called because I was so curious.
yeah, the lepora part comes from the Latin word LEPUS which means HARE not rabbit…..but I guess it’s basically the same thing….
PHOBIA those is greek….
I wish anyone who was considering getting a rabbit but wasn’t educated on them would suddenly come down with leporaphobia….(well, you know what I mean)
I love Latin teachers :~)
OMG, that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read! I hope she gets laughed out of court.
There seems to be a phobia for just about anything. Some things I can understand: flying, snakes, big dogs…but a rabbit? A little ball of fluff that can’t possibly harm anyone?
You made me curious so I did a search. How about these other ridiculous ones:
Nephophobia – Fear of clouds
Ephebiphobia – Fear of teenagers
Alektorophobia – Fear of chickens
Novercaphobia – Fear of your step-mother
Mageirocophobia – Fear of cooking (I think I sort of have this one )
LOL! I love the fear of cooking, I am going to try it one night, but also afraid of my boyfreinds cooking, LOL! JK!
Mistake #1. Being a teacher and somehow broadcasting to 14 year olds that you are terrified of rabbits. Of COURSE they were curious and wanted to see if it was really true. Not too sure how that case is going to hold up in court, what does she plan on doing? Taking all the kid’s parents money so they can’t afford to send him/her to college? Weird. I would think that she wouldn’t have told her students of that fear. I teach middleschool kids and they are the kings/queens of pranks …I wouldn’t tell them anything personal like that lol. What a strange teacher.
she’s suing because of a drawing on the blackboard????????geesh, I thought the girl had brought a rabbit and hidden it in her drawer or something. Must have been one heck of a drawing.
Must have been one heck of a drawing
lol
I imagine this woman can’t leave the house around Easter time!
You know we laugh because it seems silly, we know cute little bunnies are not going to hurt us. And as a person who sufferes from a phobia of my own I can tell you this teacher knows a bunny is not going to hurt her but she honestly cannot control her reaction to it.
Yes i think it was very dumb to let teenagers know of this, because as the newpaper said the kid was curious to see what will happen.
I had a teacher that was allergic to everything, like soap, deoderant and tampons (why the heck did she tell us the last one?). This was well known so that no student was to wear exessive smelly products otherwise they would get in trouble with the principle. Maybe in this case the school should let everyone know of this teachers phobia and let it been known if you do draw/bring a rabbit to school to get a ‘reaction’ out of her you ther will be consiquences.
Like i said it may sound very stupid, and silly to everyone here, but Phobias are an aweful thing to have, an unexplained full blown panic to normal everyday stuff. I have one, it stinks, and I work hard to overcome it, so even though I’ll giggle about the newpaper post, it makes me a bit sad b/c i know what it feels like.
Phobias for everything..
Wonder if there’s one for cell phones.
wow. reading that article the word frivolous springs to mind. lol. she must hibernate at easter.
Sarita – and I love being a Latin teacher!
I understand if the teacher doesn’t want certain things up on their boards. I have a HUGE fear of spiders and my students know that I will NOT tolerate them drawing spiders on my boards…even if it’s just a joke. BUT, I also know that there are those smart – butts out there and would certainly never sue them….maybe just give them a hard time the rest of the year!
Yeah, suing a kid is a bit over the top (Hence why this made the paper LOL).
These days it seems people will sue you if you sneeze in front of them LOL … The human race amazes me with their stupidity a little more each day.
(hehehe)
Maybe the kid drew one of these? :p
I used to be afraid of rabbits. Like when I was teenagerish aged. Because I’d never really seen a domestic one xD It was like “I know that little fxxker is going to bite me.” x___X
But it wasn’t really a phobia, I’d say. You could still probably coax me into petting one if you were holding it.
Now I’m fine with them. (:
Still afraid of cats though.
Also those pictures are hilarious. xD
The photos of the wolf & Bunny – AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
The character Anya on Buffy the vampire slayer was afraid of rabbits – but, that was due to her raising them in her 1st human life. I think someone here named their bunny after Anya.
I never dreamed that someone real (as opposed to a character on TV) might actually be afraid of rabbits
I’m not afraid of rabbits but I’m deathly afraid of mice, rats, guinea pigs, etc… A lot of people think that’s weird because they consider them all ‘rodents’ (even though rabbits are not.) People still don’t believe me when I tell them rabbits aren’t rodents! And this fear has been with me since I was very young, maybe 5? I remember the first time I saw a mouse at my barn when I was just a kid and I started to cry… I know it is completely irrational but I can’t help it
Andi, I love those. LOL
The phobia kind of fear is not rational, and it may be the best argument in favor of karma.
Doggie lovers, I was born with a fear of dogs, and my family learned it when I was about 3 or 4 and I saw a dog in our back yard and ran crying into the house. My brother couldn’t figure out what set me off, it was just a dog. But it persisted, and we moved to a new home where the neighbors kept some big German shepherds that they trained to be mean. (They were mean kids, too.) So it didn’t get fixed until my teens when I met a very, very sweet dog in my new sis-in-law’s family. Then karma stepped in when I was about 30, and a full grown G. Shepherd puppy was lost in the freezing night one January. I had to take him in while my parents were in FL and I was house sitting. I rescued him, he instantly adored me and followed my commands and gave me kisses. I gave him food. The animal control officer knew where he lived and returned him. They weren’t kind owners, and she said she’d keep him the next time he ran away. So there was the Karmic lesson learned. No more fear of dogs.
Pam….afraid of dogs??? 0_o I never would have guessed! Although with my experiences as a child, I can see how the mean neighbors with the German Shepherds would’ve given you nightmares. >_<
I like that ‘fear of teenagers’….going to remember that one…lol.
Hm. Don’t suppose there is a fear of housework? I am certain I suffer from it!
The only fear of rabbits I have is of a rabbit who is ill…because my vet already has me on her Christmas card list for how many times I’ve been in to her office this year. @_@ Or I guess I should change that to fear of vet bills! “Nomoneyleftinmywallet-o-phobia.”
BTW Andi, I may just have to send that last image to my cell phone…that is too cute!
I know MM, it’s kinda disturbing when the vet’s office and the mechanic both recognize your voice on the phone.
Hahaha, Andi, those are hilarous photos!
It makes me wanna buy the Monty Python Bunny Slippers
I’ve never liked reptiles or guinea pigs OR SPIDERS.
It gives me the creepy crawlies… imagine if one broke out of their cage/tank and found its way to your bed… UGH!!!
Bunnies on the other hand, their fur feels nice and warm, and their kisses are very cute
Brittany – my husband and I also have a banded California king snake that we keep in our bedroom (the only place Hatter is NOT allowed to go into). One day I heard a strange rustle by the bed but since I was half asleep I didn’t think anything of it. Well, after the shower and getting ready to get dressed I saw strange movement in the sheets….it was Beetlejuice (our snake)!!! Lucky for me I like snakes…but for a person who didn’t I’m sure it would be quite terrifying!
I HATE spiders though!! I can not sleep if I know that there is a spider anywhere in the house!!
Ahhh you have described my sis in law. leporaphobia….
What I can’t figure is she comes and stays at my house with her grandaughter. No one runs screaming from the house. IF she is that afraid of rabbits I would think she would have left and never came in the first place. lol
Actually Sofi the little girl was holding a bun sitting next to her grandmum on the couch. Everything was fine til sis in law started pulling her arm away and then Sofi got scared. She wasn’t scared b4.
Crazy people frustrates me so much I can’t visit them very often cuz I can’t bring my 2 buns. Makes me so mad actually. She is scared of everything anyways. I would hate to have to live in fear all the time. It just isn’t any fun. Gosh they would stay in their cage in the bedroom whats so scary about that. grrrrrr So I stay home with my babies.
Phobias are silly but to the person having a phobia a true phobia it is not funny at all to them. I used to get panic attacks visiting the ex in laws for hoildays. They yelled a lot. I woudl take off to a bedroom and shut the door while trying to breathe. I just felt the need to escape so bad. That I dont’ think is a phobia though
OH gosh you got me started I am so mad about my current sis in law I love them they are so fun but can’t visit hardly cuz of my babies. Now if I visit my Mum I can keep them indoors. Though my husband isn’t allowed over. What crazy family I have. I don’t know. Parents. My mum doesn’t like foreigners unless they are white. Sad really. I tease her sometimes tell her I am going to marry a black man sets her off lol. I can’t help it. It is funny. So I guess no one visits anyone in my family rofl. OH well no big deal
If my hubby isnt’ welcome then neither am I.
But to sue ack. Is she sueing the school or the kids I wonder. Reminds me of the twinky defense.
MM, I think I share your phobia of housework. And cooking. lol
Ew, I hate housework. And cooking.
Hatter, that is so scary!!!!!!!
UPDATE:
http://www.thelocal.de/society/20100720-28625.html
Court rejects teacher’s suit against student for ‘rabbit terrorism’
A German court on Tuesday threw out the case of a schoolteacher against a pupil who allegedly tormented her by scrawling pictures of rabbits on the blackboard to aggravate her rabbit phobia.
Courts thought it was a silly as we did I suppose :p
Thanks for the update Andi :~)
Hmm dont’ know if i have a dusting phobia or just a plain hatred of dusting.
You just remove the stuff dust what it was sitting on and dust it then put it back. Makes no sense and I only dust like 3 or 4 x a year.
By the way I did dust a week ago. Hubby was sneezing so I thought I might better do something to help him stop sneezing. lol
Hubby if you want this place dusted more often you gotta do it yourself. Sorry but I really really hate to dust
