Just wanted to let everybody who was worried know that Noot is doing really great-better then I had expected. He’s eating great and toodling around making friends through the bars. He had a hard weekend, and that lion that brought Chuck so much comfort is now bringing the same to Noot.

I’ve started sessions with Rupert and Noot-Rupert only tried twice to nip and it wasn’t a huge nip (course I know Rupert like any mom knows her children and I was way ahead of him, he never made contact)-right now we’re just doing the two of them side by side for nose rubs. I have to put Noot down first and then get Rupert because Rupert will bite anybunny in my arms-he’s the jealous type. But so far so good. We’ll do some car rides soon.

Kahlua and Noot are of course fine, as I thought they would be. They’d made friends through the bars before, and both are easy going bunnies. Their sessions are just dates for Noot to have company. I don’t need any tactics, just put them together and let the cuddling/grooming begin.

I’ll keep you posted but it’s looking hopeful.

That sounds good. I was sure Noot and Kahlua would be friends, but didn’t know how Rupert would effect the dynamic.
Didn’t think of the lion. That’s a perfect comfort pillow for Noot.

                He’s such a great bunny.

I’m actually thinking it might be this weekend-it will have to be a weekend because I’ll need time to strip and bleach the bunny room -and remodel it-don’t want Rupert thinking Noot is invading-best he thinks it’s a new room I’ll get some pictures today.

Bunnies are smart.. maybe Noot isn’t grieving as much because he knew it was Chuck’s time to go to the Bridge?

Can’t wait to see new pics of the “new” room K&K

My guess is, Chuck’s lion must still have plenty of his scent left in it too, which must be comforting. When you clean I would suggest you try to keep the lion unwashed so Noot can continue to have that scent for awhile.
                                  Rupert! Behave! ^_^
The very best of bonding vibes for your trio! Hopefully all will go well and smoothly. (((((((((((((((((Kahlua, Noot & Rupert)))))))))))))))))))

That lion is probably never going to get washed again. I can’t bear to part with that last peice of him. I’m having a hard time. I cleaned the spot where he was, for the last time. I threw out the syringes, the meds, for the last time. I cleaned his last blanky used-for the last time. It’s been seven months of the same routine-of changes and feeding and usually meds. I don’t know what to do with myself now-it’s hard.

Noot is doing great because although he misses Chuck, he knows he’s in a better place. And he’s ready to get on with things.

He is soon going to be my blind bunny-his one eye -this happened quickly-is just about completely cataract’d (sp??) not sure if the other will go. But he is just so spry I’m not going to worry-he’s more alert, and energetic then Rupert and Kahlua combined.

I’ve decided I’m not going to rush bonding-Noot is doing great and enjoying his dates, and I’m going to focus (alongside bonding) on toilet training him. He’s never been and he’s destroyed the bunny room floor! But he’s now going reliably on puppy pee pads. How funny is it that I have a bunny who is pee pad trained? So I am going to work on getting him to go in a litter box (even if it’s with pee pads and never with litter-he seems afraid to stand on litter-he’s weird about strange flooring and bounces out of the litter box if I put him in it) so that I decided is the main goal and I’ll do that alongside bonding with the goal to be bonded and toilet trained in one month….big expecations? Yes…unatainable? ….hopefully not

Sad to hear about his eye Poor man. But he’s good and active, so that’s good Hopefully bonding with Rupert and Kahlua will get him back into snuggle paradise. *snuggles for all*

K&K, I know that feeling about suddenly stopping the whole medication, syringe, cleaning care routine that’s gone on for months. Spockie needed all of that for about 8 months before he crossed the bridge, and I didn’t have you guys for support yet! The cleaning was very hard, because so much of his stuff had become illness related, and wasn’t anything you’d want to keep. But Chuck’s lion is a special one, and I’m glad Noot finds it comforting. Chuck was such an amazing bunny. Maybe you should take your posts and write them all down separately and have a little story book of Chuck and Noot, or send it to a bunny magazine. It’s just so uplifting to share with others.

So sorry Noot is having eye trouble. He’s pretty mature, so he may be geriatric at this point. If you don’t like puppy pads all the time, don’t forget the Palace Ped Beds. They are carpet pieces that are designed for incontinent animals or puppies. They were the best for Spockie and machine washable.

I also had a hard time clearing things up after losing Shadow. I kept his KONG, his food bowl, his leashes and his torn up dog coats. But hubby had to remove the soiled carpets and bedding and we still have the large dog run up outdoors, still filled with poo…. No one wants to go out there and break it down and shovel it all up, not just because it evokes memories, but because that is going to be a NASTY job. We’ve had some solid rain here for the last two weeks though, so it’s going to get washed away whether we do it or not.
At the same time even that is kind of ‘hard to let go’, simply because it’s where the boys spent so much time. And it almost seems like they’re still here. But we sealed up the entryway and it’s now a spot where the indoor cats go out to play. Plus it ‘looks’ like we still have big dogs here, and when I’m here alone that is a good feeling.
I still can’t think of Shadow without tearing up and becoming a pitiful, blubbering mess. He just made too much of an impression on my heart to just put away in the back of my mind. Jenna is helping, but she is not a big, imposing husky with the spirit of the wild places in her lineage.
My heart still breaks for you all. Poor Noot, that he is losing his eyesight. Is there no cataract surgery for bunnies?

yeah it took me a while to take away baby’s enclosure and wash up / pack up her things. it’s a hard step. and there’s no use rushing it when there’s no need to. baby had daily eye washes and drops and was on & off of other meds in her last few months too. it really does leave you with sorta just hanging there in grief when it all stops. thankfully you have a great goal with sweet noot that will help keep you busy!

head pets & nose bumps out to noot, rupert and kahlua

Thanks all for the well wishes. Still feels weird-no routine anymore. I come home and feel like I should be doing something.

If you don’t like puppy pads all the time, don’t forget the Palace Ped Beds. They are carpet pieces that are designed for incontinent animals or puppies. They were the best for Spockie and machine washable.

Great idea-he loves going on fabric *sigh* It’s just really getting him to go in one place so he doesn’t completely destroy the flooring in the bunny room (it stains). I’ll have to check those out.

So pretty much we’re ready to roll into one big family as soon as he’s using a box or you know-something other then the floor. He and Kahlua are fine of course but he and Rupert actually are too. Must be that they’ve sort of been room mates for a year and a half or so. I just did Rupert and Noot for the third date on top of the dryer and Rupert didn’t even do a ‘pretend nip’-he’s definitely not trying to fight or feeling threatened, and he’s not even doing just his ‘I’m a grumpy jerk’ nips-so I really think we’re in the clear. Plus there’s the thing that any bunny can outrun Rupert so he doesn’t chase and it’s easy to avoid him if he is being a grumpy jerk.

So I think we’re ready. Just have to be diligent with this training. I’ll have to try those pads and see if they’ll work He certainly does know where not to pee-he hasn’t peed once in his cat condo-but the floor apparently is totally fair game.

I still can’t think of Shadow without tearing up and becoming a pitiful, blubbering mess. He just made too much of an impression on my heart to just put away in the back of my mind. Jenna is helping, but she is not a big, imposing husky with the spirit of the wild places in her lineage.

I’m still so sorry for your loss of Shadow-what a hard spring it’s been

They can do surgery, but that would be for say a young bunny with eye disease. He’s going on ten now and it’s kind of just a natural progression. He’s freaking spry though and his other eye is clear, and doesn’t seem to bother him at all. Also just surgery is risky as they get older, after six is when most vets won’t unless it’s cancer or abscess etc. I don’t think we’ll bother-I know for certain being blind never stopped anybunny

Gosh, he seems so tiny! For some reason I thought he was bigger…either that or Rupe must be massive! 0_o

Hahah both-Noot is very small-though he’s gained weight big time (he was on a hunger strike when I got him home-he’s huge compared to when I took him home) and yeah…Rupert is massive. I can’t remember exactly but I think he’s around nine pounds. Last I saw Petzy’s Deirdra-Rupert was bigger

I allowed it to happen, sick of stepping in ‘bunny puddles’

Squeeee! They are so cute! Is it his left eye that has the cataract

It’s almost as if he was caretaker of a sweet (I miss our Chuck! ) blind bunny and now it’s come full circle and he taught young Rupert how a bunny caretaker is needed. So Rupert has been handed the torch to comfort Noot in his senior years. An Kahlua is just a pretty girl who’s job it is to be cute, which she does so well.

So glad they’re all getting together. Do you need the link to Palace Pet Beds?

I fully believe that Noot has taught Rupert to be a kind caretaker.

For years, I’ve always had 2 cats at a time, one older and one younger. They were all normal vocally, until I got this one cat, Booger, who never meowed, never ever. As he became the senior cat, the next younger cat started out normal (meowing) but gradually got quieter.

So on and so forth, now 4 cats down from Booger, I now have 3 that never make a sound outside of purring, it’s the darndest thing. They just picked it up from the cat ahead of them I guess. Even at feeding time they swarm me in silence, it’s almost eerie, and one of them is a siamese.

At SaveABunny we had a rabbit named “The Almighty Thor” Just Thor didn’t suit him as he felt he was in charge of everything. A 2 pound netherland dwarf that would attack anyone and anything that came near him. We also had a little white girl named “Gloria” who had medical issues all her life and longed for a friend, so much so that she ‘adopted’ a brick and we kept it in her area so she could love it. For some reason, Marcy put the two of them together and after a week, Thor was totally in love. Unfortunately, about a month later, Gloria became very sick and passed on soon after. For the next two weeks, Thor would snuggle down with the brick. But he then found another rabbit buddy and was adopted out with him.

Sometimes rabbits come into this world to teach someone something and once they’re done, they head back on over the bridge. I have seen this happen with my girlfriend’s second rabbit as well as a few at SaveABunny. Such animals are so precious and that’s why it hurts even more when they leave us so suddenly.

Though I’ve kind of decided if he can’t be litter trained (I’m almost convinced he can’t do it) well-what the hey-the flooring was about 150$ and it’s purpose was for bunnies so …it will be a lot of day to day cleaning. But getting him into a group is best.

So Rupert and Noot went for a car ride today and no troubles again. Basically we need to work on his litter training and then I will replace the litter boxes and group of three starts

Yeah totally faithful service-he was employed full time. He did get a good deal of course-Chuck was very good to him even grooming him when his head was totally tilted, but he was CHucks bunny.

I feel a bit silly bonding Noot and Kahlua (doing sessions) becasue Kahlua was Kokanee’s bunny and I promised her I would look after Kahlua for her. And Noot is Chuck’s bunny and I promised I would look after him for him. So I’m like bonding my amazing bunnies who left me far too early, to each other. I just am thinking that I’m bonding my hunny-bunnies friends to each other, and why can’t they just know that their friends are friends at the bridge?
