Alright…I need some help convincing myself to get a self-designed tribal bunny tatoo! I’ve wanted to ever since Binkles died but have never been able to convince myself to do it. I come from a very conservative upbringing and am finding it hard to shake some of the old ideals ingraned into my being.

People say that you should only get a tatoo if you’re positive that you’ll feel the same way about what it represents forever, and as I’ve found out over the years damn it if there’s one thing I will never be able to change my mind about it’s bunnies!! I’m sure it’s a shared feeling with most of the people on the BB forums, but I really do feel a special connection with bunnies that I don’t with any other kind of animal. I love them all but bunnies are just special. I feel like bunnies are part of me somehow, more than just figuratively. People have certain callings in life and I know that one of mine was to be a bunny person. Bunnies just…click with me. I don’t know how else to describe it.

:p But you all know what I mean!

It wouldn’t be a specific bunny, just an abstract representation of the bunny in general. The spirit of the bunny so to speak. Something similar to this that I drew on the cover of my sketchbook:

        So um…convince me!

          Do it.
People get tattoos for reasons, and yours is wonderful. It is special and you will always hold your bun to your heart forever.

A tribute is awesome Go for it!!!

Sometime in the future, I will be getting a portrait of my bun. She has changed my life and made me a better person.

EDIT: OOO, I like the chinese character  Bunny

That’s really stunning. I love it.

You will know when you see the perfect design , there will be no doubt in your mind that it is what you want. So if you are still unsure, you should keep browsing designs – and even then you can have the tat artist play with it and make into something unique as well.

It’s too beautiful not to do it. To make it permanent. Your at a changing point of your life – what better time? It seems you totally fine with the image or sentiment you want. So is it the permanency, the “stereotype”, or the procedure itself that has you worried? Or something else?

Teehee Lintini, it’s my design. I made it. The final one would be my design as well.

I agree Jersey, it’s the perfect time. I guess it’s the permanency and the….I don’t know. The way I was raised. “Tatoo bad” mentality. It’s hard to just suddenly ignore a convention that you’ve been held to all your life. xD I’d never considered getting a tattoo before I started wanting to get a bunny one, because aside from getting a bunny tattooing wouldn’t normally be my thing.

I AM afraid of needles. x3 But I think for bunnies, I could do it!

                  You will ALWAYS be you.

People get tattoos for the silliest of reasons. Just because you get one tattoo doesn’t mean you’re going to be covered, and in no way does it make you ‘bad’ It’s an art form that is misconceived, because people abuse it and most of the time get ridiculous tattoos, and yes it does go hand in hand with an image, but times are changing! I personally see skin as a wonderful way of displaying your art/what you love. A dedication piece is wonderful

I am somewhat biased as I am tattooed, quite a lot. and I know it’s difficult if you’ve had an upbringing where it seems wrong. But you are now your OWN person. I don’t think you’re ‘ignoring’ a convention. You’re open minded and based on everything you know, are making an informed choice. This is BEAUTIFUL and is a piece of art. So why not have it be part of you. Where would you have it placed?

HOWEVER!! I don’t want to sound like a party-pooper, but if there is ANY doubt in your mind, then don’t do it. I know you know this already, and this post will help with your decision, as it may help to see things in a different light. But don’t go and do it just because we have shared enthusiasm Oh my how patronising is that?!!!! So sorry, it’s not my intention, just want to make sure, as I know how difficult a decision it can be!!!

                  Much love x

I have toyed with the idea of getting a tattoo for a long time, but I am undecided on the “what” and the “where” aspect. So it’s seemed safer to just… not do it. Many of my friends have tattoos, and many don’t… my family is also very conservative, but I’m not, so their viewpoints in regard to my body have no bearing whatsoever on me.

Is there something else you can do with your beautiful design that you’d be more comfortable with? Have a t-shirt made, jewelry made, something not as permanent?

I like Beka’s idea as well about the t-shirt or jewelry.

My feeling on tattoo’s is that as you grow older you may feel differently about having something on your body as permanent as a tattoo. My uncle got a “Little Devil” tattoo when he was young and in the Air Force and he really did regret it once he got older.

I had thought about getting a tattoo when I was younger but now that I’m older (47 years old), I’m pretty glad I never did it. Tats look great on young bodies but not so great on older bodies :~)

What about trying the tattoo out in Henna first?  I went to a Renaissance Fest and had a Henna tattoo done of a cat- and that was pretty cool.  Yeah, it won’t be the same as ink but it might give you a better idea of how you feel about it.  And Henna is brown and that would compliment the bunny image.  I know that Henna pens are sold on eBay- but I am not artistic enough to do it myself.  Otherwise I would have Henna cats, dogs, and horses on a rotation schedule!

My Henna only lasted a couple of weeks- and it was a simple cat- none of the elaborate designs that cover a lot of skin.

Oh I would definitely try out Henna first! that way you can get used to how it looks, then if you decide against it, no problems! I also love the idea of jewellery, a gorgeous silver pendant

I personally don’t think being older or younger has anything to do with it other than how we are made to believe, subconsciously, on how we should look. I hope by the time I reach a ripe old age I can look back and be reminded of the times in my life Some people say to me, ‘what about when you’re old?’ I simply reply, I may not even reach ‘old’, I may go anytime before then, I don’t think that far ahead. I live for each day Just my opinion

Oh Henna is a good idea! That way you could change your mind. My ex’s sister has a HUGE peter rabbit from the book on her entire torso. It’s very large and I don’t know…didn’t fit her at all. She learned to hate it and it scares her when she changes lol. So…I think Henna is an excellent idea to “try it out” and really make sure if you are second guessing yourself!

Sorry I didn’t read that you created it. I love it then, its beautiful! Very neat.

love the artwork! i think if the tatoo is something you carefully thought out and considered you’d be less likely to regret it in later years. more like wearing as a badge of honor representing something that’s important to you. that said, i think it’s equally important to consider ‘where’ your tatoo is. my girlfriend’s unicorn tatoo that she got on her hip looked cute when she was 20-something in a bikini but looked particularily frightening when she was 9 months pregnant. yikes. and it never did stretch back to its original form.

I was raised that way too. Tattoos are bad…..they are for men… you will never be professional…after a few friends had some work I decided to get one too. I have gotten 3 separate tattoos. My first two were very specific and important about my sorority. The third one was for my general love of bunnies. It is a little bigger than what I originally wanted but I do love it. The way I got around it being professional or having to hear my mom say “tattos are bad, and for men” I put them somewhere relativly private, my lower back. The way I think of it is it is a place that no one would normally see without my permission or wearing specific clothing. My Mom did not know I had two tattos until I told her 3 months after I got them and she had no idea. People are suprised I have tattoos at all! I would just be mindful of where it is put on your body.

I think it is a really cute design. If you have been thinking about it for quite a while and really want to than I would say do it. Remember though, it’s permanent. Just don’t do it on a whim. I have a tattoo on my lower back. I got it when I was 19. I didn’t think much about getting it and now, I hate it. I want it removed so badly but apparently, there are certain colors that they just cannot remove at all. Of course, those are the colors I chose! If I could go back in time, I would talk myself out of getting it. It’s not the design I chose. I just don’t want any tattoos. I don’t think they are bad or anything…just not for me. Just make sure you think about that before you jump into it. Maybe get it in a place that is easily covered just in case you decide it’s not for you later on in life

I didn’t catch your age lol. I’m sorry but I think age Matters big time when getting a tattoo! A young person doesn’t think about it as a very big deal at all. A person who is older and wiser knows what they want and realizes the consequence of things more. They put more thought into it. Not to mention, they do stretch when you have babies. lol. If you have gone this far in life and decide to get a tattoo. Do it. It really doesn’t matter what other people think (if that is what you worried about). If it is the needles, don’t watch lol. It doesn’t feel like a needle going in and out of your skin. lol It also numbs after a short period of time.

Of course I’m completely unbiased. I want one for myself but neither my hub, nor my son, want me to get one. *pout*

*pokes Sarah*…So…could I get you to design one for me?
