I switched from Clarinet to horn at the end of my freshmen year of highschool, and then sophmore year my parents got me a new horn – my Conn 9D. It’s been a great horn, and is very special to me. I’ve kept it in superb condition. It’s color is called Rose Brass and Silver. I can’t believe it’s 8 years old now – well almost. All the laquer is 100% intact and shiney and it’s just like new. Here is my old horn. I am pretty sure that I am not going to sell it though.

Conn again with Leia. She really howls when I play and she gets all nervous when I take the horn out as you can see here.

Here is my new baby, my Ricco Kuhn in all it’s glory. Most professional model horns do not have laquer so it doesn’t look new and it isn’t appealing to the eye but once you play it thatdoesn’t matter. Taking the laquer off makes your tone warmer and gives you a darker sound as well.

        Fishy approves!

This solo is for you Mimz and Les  lol.

        Peekaboo!

Leia has Jenna’s face! 0_o Except for the coloring, of course. (still trying to get a full face shot of her, but all she does is sleep!)

Nice horn! ^_^ I can almost hear it from here. Ahhh…wish I’d kept up my music, I still miss singing and playing piano. About all I could do is hog-calling contests with my voice the way it is now.

And you look lovely, btw, Lin.

No not really. Fishy hates his fish tank and constantly attacks the glass to kill me.

Wow, you are pretty! Totally OT, sorry

Nice horn. What I would rather see is a video, so we can tell if you are any good hehe.

I bet your neighbours love when you pull out the horn, and both you and Leia go all in in the name of music

Yes, I think we all need to hear how they each sound. I’d love to hear the differences!

Ok I’ll play something for you guys but I don’t know if the camera speakers will do me any justice =/

We have a parrot too that likes to scream so…I’m sure the neighbors have some bunker and helmets/earplugs on for whatever goes on in my house lol.

                            Thanks for the nice comments

So cute how you’re posing with the new horn. The colour of your original one is pretty. I am surprised that lacquer can effect tone. Would a patina do that too? Could the new horn even develop a patina?

                                    Hehe! “French Horn”

Sorry, couldn’t resist. As a man I feel it is my duty to laugh at such words…

Seriously though, congrats – it’s great getting new instruments and finding out what they sound like, play like and how they respond to how you play. Happy NFHD!
