So…I got this idea in my head that I wanted a cute little hamster for my new office. I plan to drag the rabbits back and forth but I have always wanted a hamster so I thought it would be the perfect time to get one and the office be his “typical” home (coming home w/ me when Im not working of course).

Anyways, we went to the local Petsmart just because knowing they don’t sell rabbits makes them the only local petstore I will even go into. So we walk in and NO furry animals- at all! They had fish, lizards and snakes but nothing furry. I asked and a worker told me that they decided to stop selling any small animals in the future and would no longer carry them. WOW!

I have to say I am impressed!! Wasn’t it a year or so ago we were fighting to keep them from selling rabbits and they heard us and decided not to sell rabbits. And now they have gone one step further. I think this shows how much of a voice us “small animal” owners had back w/ the rabbit debate.

Of course that meant I had to look elsewhere for a hamster and decided I didn’t want one after all. If I can’t have a house full of a dozen rabbits then I am just not happy. lol

That is so great!! That is exactly how it should be. I hope more pet stores follow.

At my local pet store they keep the hamsters next to the snakes. That way, the clerks don’t have to go that far to get the snakes their food…

That’s great news! I will be so happy the day that my local Pet’s Unlimited Stores stops selling animals. They have gotten a really bad reputation about the care of the pets while in the store and about purchased animals getting sick and dying soon after they are brought home. They are also notorious for selling puppy mill puppies.

I saved Olivia from one of the stores, she was in a tiny glass tank, she could hardly lay down and had a bad eye infection. I offered them 10 bucks and brought her home. I can’t go into the stores…it’s way too hard.

The good news is that my provincial government recently passed a law that pet stores/breeders must adhere to proper animal care codes. I think I might go into the pet store soon just to see if the conditions have improved.

Just for the heck of it, I searched hamsters on Petfinder in your area Hedi.

              Uhm.

              There’s one in Indiana… lol. Maybe that’s a bit of a drive ;o)

That’s great they don’t have any small furries in there!
