…because BOY do I feel like a slug right about now…. (bunnythumps)

Grandpuppy was a little better about sleeping last night. Jenna used her puppy pad to pee at about 4 AM. I changed her out and went back to bed but had to get up a few more times to soothe. By 8 the hub was up and preparing to leave for town, so he walked her. Unfortunately, she waited until after he’d left to jump the xpen and try the front door to go potty. So we had a little blessing there on the carpet about 9. >.<  (She tried to get it outside, but there's no doggie door, so I can't really fault her for it.)

Thank God she finally went, it’s been three days now since she came home and this is her first BM. What the heck was that woman feeding (or NOT feeding) her?

No idea how long she was out, so I just scolded her for leaving her pen (and giving me a heart attack!) and put her back, woke the daughter and went back to bed until 1 PM. The only reason I found she was out was because Griffy had a hairball and I happened to glance at the pen. No dog. Jeez, what a nightmare! I almost screamed.

My poor bunnies! They’re schedule is totally whack right now because of the night duty I’m pulling with the pup. Until the daughter (whom I’m just going to call by her first initial – “C” from now on) gets her room cleared out, we can’t keep her in there so I’m having to keep an ear out. An extremely sleepy ear…. *yawn*

No regrets, just feel so bad for Mimz, Pip & Fiver. They don’t need to have to put up with me being late with their routines for this. I hope they’ll forgive me until we can get everyone back on schedule. Needless to say, Mimzy is back to throwing his litter box in the AM’s on a regular basis. Plus when I get up in the middle of the night, he starts a round of thumping. He is NOT happy.

What moms will do for their daughters…

What kind of pup is it?

I’m sure buns will forgive you for being a good momma.

          You’ll find the groove again!

It’s a Yorkie Terrier, Usagi. Her story is in two threads at the moment, “Found a peanut” and “I’m a Granddoggie!”

We’ve kept her enclosure to about a 3 – 4 foot square, Sani. She actually leapt over the barrier to get to the door this morning.
We don’t really have anything to put over it that wouldn’t fall on her and possibly crush her, so I have to keep one eye peeled all night. Bleah. I don’t do well with little to no sleep.
We’re hoping she settles soon so that everything can go back to normal.

No. I haven’t been a small dog person since I was 6. I had a little Heinz 57 mutt back then that was the love of my life and very dear. We were, oddly enough, the same age. She died when we were both 6 of a chicken bone lodged in her throat (my dad had given it to her in her food by mistake) and she had a heart attack on the surgery table. I’ve never wanted another small dog since then. I was hoping when I finally got the nerve up to ask my hub if we could bring a new dog home that it would be a larger dog, more family oriented and something that would be protective of us. But he had other ideas. He wanted the daughter to have something of her own that would motivate her to get out more and get involved in caring about something again. (Since I ‘stole’ her rabbit.)

“C” has been reclusive and withdrawn since her brother blew by her with his GED and got off to college. He returns in a few weeks and she is stressed because they do not get along. She frustrates easily. She is less organized than he is, less logical, so getting her diploma has been a struggle she’d just as soon forget about entirely. She’s even spoken of forgetting about college (something she’d really wanted to do before) and just going straight into the workforce.
So why more responsibility? Well it seems like a stupid way to go about it, but she needs something to wake her up. She’s floundered for a year with the school thing because we found pushing her was fruitless. She’d just dig in her heels and not move an inch. The dog is something that she’s continued to want a long time however, and it has seemed to snap her out of her funk somewhat. The dog is not something she can ‘put off till later’…when doggie needs walking, she needs to walk her. When she needs to eat, food must be prepared. This is all her, with the exception of when she has to sleep. I’d rather she get some rest when she can, since she has trouble with insomnia anyway. Just having Jenna here for these few days has tuckered her out enough to sleep some at night again.

Jenna is showing a stubborn streak…another thing she shares with my daughter. She is difficult to get to stay awake during the day. She won’t walk anywhere with us to go to the bathroom. And a rather picky eater. Thursday is a long way away for us at this point. (Jenna’s first wellness check with our vet.)

She is a lovely dog and I don’t think for a minute that we shouldn’t have adopted her. We’d been looking at dogs for weeks before I asked hubby if we could consider adopting. Just because it wasn’t the dog I wanted doesn’t mean this was the wrong pet at the wrong time. But until Jenna settles here and begins to feel at home, we are a little overwhelmed by her neediness.

I even joined “C” up at an online Yorkie forum to get more info. They are much like us here, except the companion of choice is all the Yorkshire Terrier.

Awww, it sounds like C has had a bit of a rough go of it… The teenage years were no fun for me either. I also suffer from insomnia… I bet she will find her own way, especially with such supportive parents.

Animals are great healers I have found. They are consistent, their needs are consistent, and they have no agenda (unlike humans) except love, attention, and food. When I was going through a terrible time in HS, my mini doxie really helped me pull through. And even this year with Lemony – being able to come home and take care of a creature that relied entirely on me – everyday, he needs the same thing – his litterbox changed, his water changed, etc – he the only thing that was really consistent in my life at that time.

I KNOW that locking dogs up in cages is a very difficult thing to do, but when we were training our dogs at home (we have four), we would always put them in their crates at night. It’s true, the more confined they are while they are alone, the more likely they are to wait until they are let out to do their business. The two little doxies still have to sleep in their cages at night… Coco still hasn’t “gotten it,” but that’s my fault, because when my parents aren’t looking I let her out of her cage at night. Hehe. She’s my princess and I’m a total softie for her.

I just hope she sticks with it. I mean, I don’t think she wouldn’t, it’s just she gets so easily put off. For instance, this dog was originally the pet of an older lady. So when C can’t get Jenna to walk down the road with her, she gets upset and withdraws. Jenna will follow me, but I don’t want her to imprint on me, C thinks she already has. (BTW, Jenna cleared the pen four times early this morning and wiggled her little butt into my room each time. Little stinker.)

I speak to the dog as little as possible, only petting her minimally to get her to sleep, which she does pretty quickly so I can tiptoe away. We got her a hot water bottle and she snuggled up to that quite a bit last night. The cold definitely affects her, which is going to be fun to deal with over winter.

Ugh…just washed Jenna’s beddy in the machine and holey-moley…fur everywhere! 0_o What an idiot! This shows how tired I am, should’ve taken it down to the laundromat instead…now where am I going to wash the bunny beds??

I’m definitely doing too much of the clean-up work…*pokes daughter*
*runs an empty bleach load, grumbling to self*
