So we went into town yesterday and on the way out, we went to see the Yorkie my daughter and I had found online that I mentioned a few threads ago.

Sadly, the picture we saw I realize now, is not of the dog we thought was available…(here we go again)

but this little one was too precious for my daughter to resist. So, please meet Jenna, my daughter’s ‘baby’. She is supposed to be 2 years old and is the biggest little love sponge I have ever met!

Her name was actually Jenny, but we tweaked it a little to name her for the lady husky in Balto…(my daughter’s idea, I swear!) Supposed to be on two weeks probation in case she doesn’t fit…but believe me, she does.

Her coloring is so much like our old shepherds’ it is not even funny. So she was sent to us! Already she is changing my daughter’s life and attitude for the better.

Trying to get squeeshots…I mean SCREENshots of the two of them walking yesterday from my FLIP video…but I was up all night soothing the pup so it would sleep and not try to bust out of these sacrificed portions of bunny pen. (Evidently, she is an escape artist.) So I’m taking a nap by the time you read this. zzzz…..

        More later!

Congrats Grand-Doggie! She’s a sweetie! Knows how to play it up too by the looks.

              Ahem…

but I was up all night soothing the pup so it would sleep and not try to bust out of these sacrificed portions of bunny pen

And your daugther was not because…..? lol I can just see you becoming the grandmum that is always looking after the “kids”. So are you ok with that? lol Does a bear —- in the woods?

Edit to add: MM, I just read your post in Peanut thread. It’s obvious that Jenna is your daugthers dog & she’s dedicated.    Just ignore my teasing.

                          lolz….MB…I”M the ‘grand-doggje’…yanno, liike a doggie’s grandma? ^_^
This is my daughter’s dog and, as she has sworn she will never marry or have children, this is about as close to a grandkid as I’m going to get (for now…thank goodness!).
Figures…for years my little brother was a cocker spaniel.

                          *giggles @ Pam*

Well we’re still working on housetraining and there’s been a few accidents. (She leapt over the barrier all night last night and caught me napping early this AM…so we had a few piddles and a poopy spot on the carpets. ) Also we’re having trouble finding a doggie coat for her, she hates the windy weather out here, so I’m going to have to look online for something Yorkie sized…or make it myself, which would be a disaster. 0_o
She did some snorting this morning too…so I’m hoping her wellness check goes okay on Thursday. I’m afraid we’re going to find she has collapsing trachea. Please keep a good thought for her.

I can’t ignore your new ‘grand-doggie’, Mimz. I have to admit she frightens me. A Yorkie is the only type of dog that has ever bitten me, repeatedly, and I can’t trust them ever since. I will deal with a Beauceron or a Neapolitan Mastiff before I get a Yorkie. Unfortunately, the man in my house has an irrational soft spot for Yorkies… sometimes he will say “our dogs would love one of those little guys…”

I totally understand your fear, Petzy. When I was six, a neighbor set his former police dog (German Shepherd) on me in my own yard for fun. The dog also bit my father when he came out to defend me. Sadly, the dog had to be put to death of course, after my parents sued them. Not the dog’s fault…it’s the folks who raise them that turn them bad. These people were druggies and they left town fast after this incident.

As a result, I am terrified of the German Shepherd. My hubby had one who was very protective of him. She about made me wet myself when I first met her and I was in my 20’s by that time. But we ‘bonded’ at my hub’s dad’s cabin at Fielding Lake…she was old and infirm and we sat with each other in the -60 F weather for most of the time we were there. She was an old dear and is still missed.

Then when my daughter was born, my dad passed away and upon finishing his estate, hub thought it would be good to have a dog. We went to the shelter and he found a female German Shepherd, three months old, who was about to go for the Big Sleep. I couldn’t refuse something like that of course and so we brought her home. I was intensely worried with the kids so young, but it turns out I needn’t have been…she loved those kids like they were her pups. To the day she died. Somewhere I have a pic of her…really her colors and Jenna’s are so similar. It’s spooky.

Even Shadow terrified me. He was so huge and would run up behind me and all I could see in my mind’s eye was that shepherd bearing down on me. But he never harmed me. The only time he even remotely took a snap at me was while we were racing him to his GDV surgery and I accidentally touched his belly, which was hurting so bad, during the drive and the face on him in that instant was, “I’m sorry mom, I didn’t mean it, I’m sorry!” I miss how protective he was, how loyal. It was such a comfort to have him here, as big and imposing as he was. I realize I have a built in fear of all dogs really, but Shadow really broke through that. All the same, he could be intensely frightening when needed…usually when strangers came to call. Even all the hub’s friends called him “Chewbacca”. ^_^

He was an abused dog. It took us a long time to heal him. He went from wild and scary, to loving and ready to die for us. He was always ready to let anyone know who came near that this was HIS family. As you pointed out in the Bear Thread, we are defenseless now and I feel it on a daily basis.

In his last years, he lost his voice and didn’t bark much at all. Looking at his last few pix, I see he wouldn’t face the camera. He was leaving us long before he died.

Ooops…off topic….anyway…. Jenna is of course a terrier, so she is a danger in some very real ways. But she is such a timid little thing. I think she’s been beaten or just screamed at a lot. Now that means she could have an angry streak in her somewhere…become unpredictable…but I’m on guard for that. Especially with the bunnies.

Today while walking her, she barked at some folks going down the road. I was surprised, because she seems like such a mouse! So far, being outdoors seems only to terrify her. But that tells me she is settling in, and sees us as family who needs her vigilance and (tiny as it is) protection.

Mimz you are such a great story teller, I absolutely love hearing about your dogs! The Shepard in the photo, what is her name? She’s beautiful.

That was Kimba. She was our dear heart! We still miss her so. She was at her funniest when chasing a remote control race car we had that had those rubber tracks on it? She’d go after it like it was a demon and drag it back by the tracks, we couldn’t get it past her! lol…

And Frisbees…oh she loved those! When she was done playing you knew, cause she took it under the porch with her and wouldn’t give it back!

When she first came to Alaska with us, she went walking with Daddy (it was March, still lots of snow on the ground) and lifted all her paws up off the ground and floundered on her belly so her feet wouldn’t get cold! It was hilarious!

                                    *sigh* Good times…good times…..

LPT, sorry, I forgot to answer your question. Jenna’s no bigger than a minute, I don’t think she even measures 12 inches from withers to base of tail. She has a face and eyes that reminds us of Benji…does anyone here remember those movies? That poor scruffy little dog who always looked so miserable that they SWORE was ‘so happy to perform’…yah…my eye!

Beyond comprehension. MM, it’s great you do have great relationships with dogs despite this incident. How do people like that neighbour even get a former police dog? I would have thought they’d have to go to very specific homes – thoroughly assessed ones.

No longer scared here . I have a Jenna Stunt Double and tested her. It went very well. Jenna is approved

The Yorkie that bit me did it out of jealousy. She was competing for someone’s attention.

Mops! lol….gosh he is beautiful! I would not be able to resist a black lion lop like him. He looks a bit disgruntled though…as if he’s afraid you’re planning on making him look something like the mop dog there….

Jenna’s vet visit went well yesterday. Her only real issue is that she needs her teeth cleaned. (one premolar is about to fall out… ) We’ve an appointment next Wednesday for that.
Doc thinks she is probably 2, but no more than 3. So we’re good there. Good thing too, the shelter woman-who was supposed to wait two weeks to see if this worked out-has already cashed my check. A bit premature. I hope she’s planning on sending me Jenna’s records sooner then, it’d be helpful to have some past blood-work to compare with what they’re probably going to take before her dental.

So here’s the kicker…I open my email this morning and my mom’s cousin who lives in Florida has also just adopted a Yorkie.  Not sure if it’s a boy or girl, but the name is “Ragtime”.

                                                Here’s a pic. Yes, it’s still just a puppy.

                                                    Hogeeze…lol…. ^_^
I’m just waiting to see if she emailed me back yet. When Shadow died, she was one of the relatives I wrote to and sobbed out my heart at, swearing there’d be no more dogs in my house. Can’t wait to see how she virtually wags her finger in my face. lol……
My mom was the same way…lost her Cocker Spaniel and told my cousin no more pets. Now I think she has a parakeet. 0_o

My cousin and her hub live in The Village now. They came out to see us some years ago, when my daughter still gave open displays of affection for me in public. (I remember this because she took pix of us with ‘C’ hanging off me like a barnacle.) This is a distant (in more ways than one) cousin, from my mom’s mother’s side of the family. We are not what I’d call close.

                                                    Sorry dear. I hope it won’t take so long for me to get to Florida that I’m in an urn and headed out to sea! ;_;
