today i let my bun and my dog out to play outside together. usually i protect shadow from my dog but today it seemed like shadow was tainting him. he would creep up to my dog and when Neiko would finally break into a chase shadow would run under my legs. home base. what really surprised me was that shadow would Binky in the middle of running away from my dog. it was so precious.

The Binky is actually an evasive technique when getting away from a predator. But when we see it – it’s usually in play sort of when they’re “practicing” haha! It does sound as if Shadow was engaging in a game with Neiko.
It good to hear of a bun of his age enjoying himself so actively.

                an evasive technique??? O_O
you mean wild buns do that when running away? lol sound like thier trying to “insult” their predator as if saying “haha i can outrun you and play at the same time!”
its rare to see him play with the dog. usually Neiko “bothers” him by licking his fur and stuff. but when Neiko lays down, shadow climbs on top of him. but most of the time he doesnt want to be bothered.

hey Jerseygirl could you give me some advice on weather I should get shadow a puzzle foam mat? i cant have him on the carpet because he’ll pull it up and he wont play on the hardwood floor. basically all his excercise is done outside. i dont want him to eat the foam mat though >__<

Apparently. They twist their bodies mid air and it changes their direction for when they land. I know what you mean about “insult” though! I once commented about the binky looking more like an “up yours” and I mostly saw it when herding mine inside. Binkies definately happen though when they’re excited/happy etc.

If it’s only certain spots of the carpet he pulls, you can try put a phonebook there or some heavy board with sea grass matts attached so he can pull at that instead.  On the foam mats…depends on the rabbit but I would think they’d chew them. Not worth risking the blockage. You could use them then cover them with something. Or you try some cotton rugs mats or sea grass mats over your carpet. Even towels or picnic rugs. You could weight the corners down with bricks, ceramic or clay pots.

well neiko is only 3 years old. i’ve been putting them together since the first day he came home as a puppy. and they both live in the same room so their with each other 24/7

ok well in that case i’ll just purchase a blanket to put over the hardwood floor and put a baracade around it to weight it down……oh wait…. he’d totally eat the blanket. dang. back to the drawing board. the sea grass mats are too small but i never heard of the cotton mats. i’ll look into those. thank you ^^

You can get indian cotton mats pretty cheap. He might chew at them too. I guess provide something he is allowed to chew to try distract him away from the floor coverings. I rather think some sea grass mats on a small board would still feel like pulling carpet which he apparently enjoys doing!

A few rabbits like playing the ‘chase game’. Maryann is one. However Dono is definitely not.  More often than not though, rabbits prefer not to be chased.  MAkes them feel like din din.

Sani- Just wanted to mention my experience with foam mats. I bought some to use as flooring for Bindi’s condo when he was having issues with sore hocks. I watched him very carefully at first and he left it alone for months. Then all of a sudden, he started chewing it, where the connector pieces are it’s impossible to connect them totally flush and he would get his teeth in the cracks and chew. He didn’t chew much of it but I was worried so I had to take the whole thing out. I’ve dealt with a blocked up bunny before…very scary.

@MarkBun i read a book a long time ago that sayed to never chase your bun so i never chase him myself. i think it would totally freak him out (being about 20x his size and all)
@LittlePuffyTail thank you for sharing your experiance!! i dont think i’ll be getting those mats anymore. i’ll probably take jerseygirl’s advice and get the grass mats
