I was listening to our radio trade show today…some ‘ignorant person’ (I’d like to use a stronger word) was giving away a California White (?) female because ‘no-one’s taking care of it and I need it out of here.’

I have no room, or I would’ve called her up and not only got the bun, but left a piece of my mind there in exchange.

I wish I even knew someone who’d have time and room to foster. Too many people up here have snakes that would want a ‘free bun’.

Also at our shelter there’s a rex female who’s been returned three times. It just makes me sick.

I know everyone has stories like this right now, and I don’t mean to pile it on, but I am so frustrated. I want to whack people like this with a stupid stick.

I just checked kijiji to see if there were any posted, and I saw an ad from someone looking for a cheap bunny and cage. I went to email a reply and when I logged in to the account I used for that found that the same person had responded to my original posting — the one urging people to think twice about getting a bunny. The content of her message?

          “Do you have any left”?

Reading comprehension obviously not a strong point with this person.

ha! I had a response like that. I ticked the “Free” box when composing it. So people get drawn to that. Well I was offering free information but did receive a reply asking if I had any free bunnies… *roll eyes*

It makes me sick that people think they can get bunnies as an easter present. Lydia was a long lost Easter present and she was also returned three times. Once because they had a big dog who bit her (umm use your head, MOST of the time big dogs and bunnies don’t big well at first), The second time they owners said she was too expensive.(classic) and lastly a mom had gotten Lydia for a little kid who couldn’t take care of it.

Bunnies aren’t just cute little fluff balls that you can leave like fish.
              Frustrating.

So frustrating how stupid people are. Seriously, how did some of these people on these ad sites even make it to adulthood?

I know it will never happen, but I wish pet stores and adoption agencies would not sell/adopt out bunnies around this time of year. It’s so sad to see these little lives just being tossed back in forth between homes and animal agencies….

                      $ $ $ $ $ … that’s all these pet selling people see, a couple bucks in their pockets.
I remember as a teen thinking I can’t wait to grow up, then everyone’s smarter and more mature…. I’m 30 now and still have not seen a change in people’s maturity nor intelligence.

My favorite when people are trying to surrender their pet to us… “I can’t give him/her the time he/she deserves” … cuz you know a RESCUE is a beautiful farm of happy animals getting 1 on 1 time with the millions of volunteers who have nothing better to do they care for your pet that you don’t have time for.

                        Never say never!
We now have one city that has made it illigal for petstores to sell rabbits, so lets hope this is somethign that will spread to other areas!

Saw an ad on craigslist here last night for a little litter of bunnies… the person specifically said that they waited until after easter to post them, so that they wouldn’t become spontaneous easter presents. the ad specified to an indoor only home, no small children, the buns would come with a bag of oxbow food and a big bag of timmy hay. Yay for at least one somewhat knowledgeable person

Thank God for small favors, MB! ^_^
Yeah, the Californian that was on the radio-trade program is now in our shelter. (That is, if they managed to post THAT picture right!) Poor bun.
Two more in there too…plus the obligatory guineas and ferrets.

Andi, I still just think that at least two weeks before easter pet stores and possibly animal shelters should not sell rabbits. That way if someone wanted it as an Easter gift they would have to live the rabbit for at least two weeks. Perhaps that would straighten people up. Just my opinion….and I’m sorry if I have hurt any bodies feelings on this forum because that was not my intention.
