Late last night I caught a doco on tv. Chimpanzees: Out of the Shadows.  Has anyone seen it?  I think it aired here last year but I hadn’t heard of it before.

It keep me up for hours and has permeated my thoughts through the day.   Just can’t believe some of the stuff these animals were put through. I was ashamed to be a member of the human race! The only light was that some of these chimps are finally being given a better quality of life – and there were some amazing people making that happen.

This doco plus a report earlier I’d seen on the Koalas here was not a good combo. Humans have alot to answer for! Sorry, ranting a bit.

oh goodness, where did you find this post?! lol
Yeah, it kinda got to me that night. I just had never realised that they sent chimps into space and some of the medical test they did on them. So of you’re aware of that sort of thing I guess it’s not as shocking.

Actually, there’s a canadian connection too. Even film was produced there…(?) But i do remember one of the couples that set up a home for the chimps was a canadian vet and his wife.

I haven’t seen it – thankfully. But just read about it. I did know about the space chims. It has actually taken up a lot of my thoughts sometimes – I just imagine how lonely and scared it must be. The same with all those space dogs.

I saw another program a while back about a woman working on Borneo to save the orangutans. She would go out to the markets and the villages to buy the small orangutan babies in order to foster them and let them back out in the wild. She even went to a place, where they had this orangutan as a prostitute. It was really horrible. This poor girl had been shaved and had a dress on, and she was sold to men, who wanted to have sex with an orangutan. It broke my heart. The poor girl of course was really scared of men, and it took a long time for that woman to get her to trust her. Oh, it was horrible. It made me utterly sick!!

It is a Danish woman who is doing all she can for the orangutans in Borneo.

Ugh! Well I continue to be shocked! ^

You know, I got thinking again about the doco I saw after this thread was brought back up.  The space program got to me. I think I have probably seen images in the past of monkeys in space suits but never put it together.  How could they possibly have understood what was happening to them. These were young chimps too and seeing it just reminded me of a human child. To me it was like sending a toddler into space.
