You know I’ve been having a terrible fear of them lately since all the huge ones in other countries. I live on the San Andreas fault and every time I accidentally jiggle my desk or my boyfriend bounces his leg and something rattles I get huge eyes and wonder if it’s real or not. When I sit here at the computer and I bump the desk I always look at the fish tank to see if the water it moving. I don’t know it’s just been so long since a large one I really am worried…I don’t like them at all!

You aren’t the only one terrified of them! I’ve been getting an emergency evac kit ready for me and the buns

I have only ever felt two since I have lived in San Diego. I felt the one yesterday when it when it hit. Me and hubby were sitting on the couch, buns playing in their new cottage house, all of a sudden I felt this shaking on my foot, I thought that remote had fallen under the cushion or something so I looked and the shaking started getting worse. “Honey it’s an earthquake.” Our patio sliding door sharted shaking, a couple small things fell off a shelf, the building was rocking back and forth, this one seemed to last a good 30 seconds. I don’t like them, scary!

Out here in Phoenix AZ we even felt the earthquake, although not a huge jolt, my home rock and rolled for about 30 seconds. Pebbles was stretched out snoozing – she didn’t even wake. Wish I could sleep like that. And Dante hopped into his hide-y hole and looked around sniffing. My ceiling fan was swaying, and my glass of tea swished around. Hope all So. Cali bun buns are ok – oh yeah their hoomins too!

Maryann gives me about a 5 min to 3 hour warning before a quake above a 3.0 hits in my area so I’m always good to go.

Once I figured out HOW she warns me about them, I have hit the last 5 spot on. I also had 2 false alarms. I need to see her thump in order to know that she’s warning me about the earthquake and the 2 false alarms I only heard, didn’t see.

Well, geesh, I didn’t even know about it until I read this and I live in the Bay area! We were dealing with a little bit of an emergency this weekend and had to take care of my nephew. I’m just coming out of a “child zone haze” of toys, coloring books, discussions of penguins and how glow sticks work.   My Nephew just left about an hour ago, and I am coming out of this strange kid fog and am making my way back into the the “grown-up” world again. (WOW…how the heck do you parents do this every single day for 18 years plus) ANYWAY… so I was busy, and I obviously felt nothing. Time to go check out the news.

I’m terrified of all the crazy forces of nature. We don’t get quakes here but the last few years we’ve had some small tornadoes. We’ve had hurricanes here too but they usually die down quite a bit before they get here. If I was just by myself I probably wouldn’t worry but I panic to think about how to evacuate 4 cats and 3 bunnies!

Markbun, how does Maryanne thump when it’s a warning?

Well the first sign is when I hear a thump for no reason – no outside noise, didn’t open up a new bottle of soda, I’m not smacking the top of my head – yanno the regular reasons. I then go into the bedroom and she turns towards me – usually sideways and thumps again, followed by a dash to her hidey place and another thump, but no more after that.  I guess she figures that if I haven’t listened by now, I’m not going to. Now, realize that someone who doesn’t know her like I do might not interpret it the right way, as she can do this when she’s pissed at me, but it’s something a daddy knows.

MarkBun, my hubby said this after I told him how MaryAnne warns you of earthquakes… “Maybe she’s causing them.”

                                  lol!

Well it is Maryann. I’m sure she’s got some sort of supernatural power :p
The way we predicted earthquakes was that all the birds would stop singing/calling about 2mins before an earthquake. It’s weird to suddenly hear silence but I appreciate that this only works if you have copious amounts of birds around you…
