so is there still an unofficial weight loss group of bb’ers out there?  i found a great (lengthy) article on the topic while surfing at lunch today and i thought i’d share:

7 Steps To a New You

How one couple lost more than 100 pounds between them and how you can too.

        Provided by EatingWell.com

        http://ca.lifestyle.yahoo.com/food-…ll/20808/1

it’s very practical advice… none of the steps were anything new really.  but i liked how they presented their weight loss strategies and i thought there were a few helpful tidbits.

        ps…

if you’re reading this post and have your own helpful weight loss tidbit(s) please share!

My boyfriend has lost 24 lbs in two months. His goal is 37 lbs by May 1st. I am very proud of him He gets up every morning before work and works out for an hour and then he has cut down on the “naughty” stuff though I don’t think we were that bad. When he first started the diet, we had a lot of soup and loads of veggies all the time, but now we are back to regular meals and he still looses weight.

I should say though that we don’t eat meat, don’t drink milk and hardly ever eat white bread, so our regular meals are still not the same as most people though.

So, I can recommend the work-out for sure.

I eat Nupo bars for breakfast, because I don’t have time for anything else, and one weekend my boyfriend wanted to test how much weight he could loose eating Nupo for the whole weekend. He did loose some weight, but apparently, it was all due to loss of muscles and he actually gained more fat. So, not recommendable although it is a good quick-start for most people, I think.

karla i had a wee brain-freeze here and skipped over the fact you are from denmark. wondered why when i googled “nupo” i got lots of hits in a different language. haha.

congrats to your bf for his success!!! i’ve been working out 6 days a week since i got my gym membership and i really really believe it is my key to success. i know i need to eat mindfully too, but if i start with my diet i become to obsessed about food and it inevitably backfires. i love food.

unfortunately i have no idea what my start weight was (was a little afraid to face the music) BUT tonight i will face the scale and weigh myself!

              Portion Control.
Plates have been enlarged present date.
I don’t believe in dieting because it harms and deprives ones body of nutrients that it needs throughout the day.

              Fresh foods

              Oh, and green tea
I gained weight from eating out of stress due to my mom’s illness. I have yet to lose the weight, but I want to shed about 10 pounds. The weather has been nasty the past week, so I haven’t been able to go take my walks outside

I sometimes forget too that I am a European minority in here You know, I did try to google it first just to check if it came up in English searches, as I wasn’t sure if you guys would know what it is, and it did. Well, hmm, diet powder and diet bars, is what it is. As I mentioned, it is not something I would recommend as such as you loose muscles and not fat, but well, I still eat it in the morning nevertheless, because it is just “grab out of the fridge and run for the train” -kind of food.

6 days is a lot! Good for you!  I envy anybody who has the discipline to get going more than three times a week (I can’t even get myself together to do the Wii Fitness at home haha).

I think exercise is always the key, and well portion control, as you say, Brittany.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make cardio more funner? I was luke warm on it until I was shown how to use the weight machines. Now I pink puffy heart strength days and loathe cardio. And I have three cardio and two strength days per week. I thought I should switch it the other way around but “those that know” said “No! You must do 3 days cardio!”

                  Hate.

I’ve been trying to do the 30 day Shred video by Jillian Michaels from Biggest Loser. I have to admit that I can’t make it all the way through without cheating a bit. But her routine is 3 sets of mixed exercises – 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of abs. There’s also 3 difficulty levels. I was doing it regularly until I got a cold (and a migaine, and then smashed my toe). Looking forward to starting it again tomorrow.

ETA:  I just wanted to add a little warning on over-exercising and eating too little.  About 10 years ago I was super focused on losing weight.  I didn’t feel like I was losing it fast enough (I was down a size medium at that point, I should have just left well enough alone) so I decided to exercise more and eat less.  I was seriously counting calories.  By the end I was exercising a total of 3 hours a day (an hour in the gym, an hour of aerobics, and hour long walk in the evenings) and eating 500-800 calories a day.  I was really happy if I could keep it down to 500.  I ended up getting a horrible case of bronchitis, almost pneumonia, came close to needing to be hospitalized.   I couldn’t actually eat because my throat was so sore, so all I had for 2 weeks was diet jello and consume.  In those 2 weeks I gained 10 pounds, just because I couldn’t do those 3 hours of exercise every day.   Lesson — all things in moderation!

I just had my annual physical with my internist and my cholesterol is sky high, BP up, weight up, blah, blah, blah.  The good news is I quit smoking Sept. 21, 2009.  I have ridden and competed horses most of my life and never had to worry about my weight.  Then about 8 years ago I moved and have been sedentary for the most part since then.  I have gained 50 lbs and feel like a slug.  My husband is in the same boat.  We found this great web site that breaks everything down nutritionally, has recipes, has a data base with every food you could imagine with the nutritional chart for each one.  It is caloriecount.about.com

We also started doing the Quick Start Biggest Loser DVD every day.  Of course we just started this Wednesday, but we are on our way.  Plus the best news is a friend of mine invited me over to ride on Sunday.  The web site also has activities listed with how many calories you burn doing that activity.  I’m really excited (a little obsessed actually) and I hope this web site can help others, too.

I also have that – my neighbor and I started working out with that together, and I actually really started seeing results, but then I had to fly out of town to deal with a family thing, and I’m a stress eater, and I blew all my hard work.

However,  I bet it works if you stick to it.   I also had a rough time making it all the way through without cheating for the first three days, then day 4 and 5, I only cheated a little, and by day seven, I was able to complete level 1 pretty much full throttle.  I wasn’t able to advance to level 2 because I flew out of town for two weeks again, and then I just completely blew it  off when I came back.    The one thing that I like about that work out is that it is only 20 minutes, and so you’re not tortured for too long, but I was  obviouslyable to make some improvements in just a weeks time.

I  just need to stop falling off that darn health wagon even if Life seems to get in the way—- cuz it always will.

This is my third day using the caloriecount.about.com site and I am amazed how unhealthy seemingly harmless foods really are.  I am trying to stay at 1200 calories a day and today is going to be the first day I haven’t gone over my limit.  Calorie counting is pretty simple compared to trying to balance all the other stuff and still not go over with my sodium (I have high BP) and the carbs are difficult to balance.  It is kind of like a game and so far it’s pretty challenging and kind of fun.  You can also keep track of your activities/exercise and they have a data base full of everything imagineable.  Today I found “walking to and from an outhouse” – okay, I do have indoor plumbing , but that’s just an example of how large and diverse is their data base.

Good luck everybody!  My husband is also counting calories and he is a little discouraged, but I tell him that this is a lot better than what we were doing before.  I added up something like 4000 calories for a typical day for us and that helped him feel better about the 2000 calories he ate today.

bb i can sooo relate! i just love food. so i find i eat when i’m happy, sad, angry, tired, stressed… oi.

jillian’s video sounds v. interesting! will def check it out. love to mix up my workouts.

s&a… wow! you really were starving yourself. its hard to remember moderation is so important sometimes and that slow and steady wins the race.

tarm… right now what gets me thru my cardio is music. i totally need the distraction and music does it for me. i put together a new line up of songs every now and then for fun and as i think of / hear songs that would be great to work out to.

That’s big motivater for me too.  Once I get comfortable knowing how to safely do the workouts, I can put on my ipod shuffle and it seems to help me work out harder.  (That also helps work harder on walks)  I also arranged the music on Itunes to help me get out of bed – I leave it on the nightstand and have music that starts sort of slow,  then faster,  then pumps me up to get up and work out.

So I just started the 30 day shred  again, this morning, and I did better than I thought i would for being off the wagon for a bit.    Wasn’t as horrible as I dreaded.

I find that when i stick to an exercise routine, my appetite changes…and my desire to use food the same way lessens. Not sure if it’s  because the exercise helps with endorphine levels, or if it’s about ruining all the hard work.

For me though, I talk a good talk —and it’s my first day back on the wagon.  Let’s see if I can actually follow thru this time no matter life throws at me.

                                Good  luck everyone!

lol… i can sure talk a good talk too after 3 gym-free days i’m headed back after work tonight with hopes that it will help me feel more energetic tomorrow.

congrats on getting done a 30 day shred workout this morning bb! i’ve often wondered if maybe a better goal for me is to be to reduce the time it takes me to jump back on the wagon. how many calories does jumping back on the wagon burn anyways?

                                  good luck to you too!

Okay that’s really funny because I started back on the 30 day shred today too! Mine was a little more difficult though, since I ran out of claritin a few days ago so my breathing wasn’t terribly good. But I think a workout like that is a great way to start the day, makes me feel like I’m getting off on the right foot.

i’m determined to get healthy, too. i joined curves two weeks ago and have been going at least 3 times a week (which is what they recommend). i go more than that if i can. i really like it so far and am already feeling better. my sister joined over a month ago and she’s already lost 7 pounds and 8 inches!

dieting is definitely not my thing. i’ve tried over and over but i just love food so much. but i’m following the advice of the ladies at curves and adding one thing at a time. my first addition was to start exercising and my second was to start drinking water constantly. i bought a refillable canister and keep it with me at all times.

i admire all you guys who have the discipline to do workouts at home. i’ve never been able to stick with those! the most i can do it at home is play around on the wii fit. =)

i did 60 mins on the cross trainer last night and then a few free weight arm exercises. one of my girlfriends just joined up at the gym and so we worked out next to each other…. was so much fun! now don’t get me wrong, i’d still prefer chatting in a bistro over a glass of red wine BUT it was pretty cool to get in a chat AND my daily exercise

I find that I am more motivated to exercise when I have a destination and it is not a loop. So I run home from school and my mom picks up my backpack from school. I don’t know if anyone is in a position to do this but maybe you could motivate yourself by running somewhere, like running to the shops (if they are close) be sure to bring a small backpack or something and then once you are there buy a little something (maybe pick up some dinner) and then run home. I don’t know it is just an idea.

I don’t seem to have a problem exercising, because I am a big daydreamer and half the time I am running I am also daydreaming. I do cardio, but not any weight training… that’s why my arms are really weak.

Luckily for the food, my family and I are really healthy eaters, we hardly eat any meat and we always eat a lot of veggies and only go out to a restaurant about four times a year (Once for each of our birthdays.) During Easter and Christmas we have lots of sweet stuff but it doesn’t happen too often (And I try to restrain myself from eating too much).

ScooterandAnnette I also went through a bout of too much exercise and too little food, eventually the doctor told me I needed to gain some weight and I was like, “Oh no.” So I had to eat more and exercise less, and was eventually back to normal.

daydreaming! i totally do that too. i think thats why music is so important to my workouts… i do my best daydreaming to music

so far 60 min on the cross trainer mon, tues, and wed night this week! tonight is rest night… need to power thru some paperwork.

and just when i’m on a great roll for gym attendance… my work signs me up for a night course. mon / wed nights 6:30 to 10pm for a month. guess those will be my rest days of the week since i will hardly have time to sleep & eat & take care of the fuzzies between school and an 8-5 job. ah well… i’m excited… the course will be fun

My mom’s passing made me gain weight.. Not much, just about 5 pounds. I want to get back to at least 130 pounds.

My boyfriend is studying to become an Athletic Trainer, and recommended that I do my daily walks and do my stair stepper twice a week. I watched the DVD for the stair stepper and it is pretty intense!!

I was taught how to make cod and steam veggies, so its a nice home cooked meal I know how to make!! Its cheap and healthy Full of Fish Oils

My hubby has been whining about gaining weight. But me.. I’ve never had to go on a diet in my life. I’m blessed with a high metabolism and can eat pretty much anything, so I’m useless at helping him lol.

So. Tell me what to do lol.
