Sorry if this has been covered before.  I was just wondering if anyone has built a hutch like the ones below?  I would like to find a nice piece of furniture (used-Goodwill) and use it for a bunny hutch.  I was thinking of using hardware cloth on the inside walls to prevent chewing.  I especially like the one with a lift up top.

Those are pretty cool looking! I like the ones that are more open tho... I like to be able to see what my buns are up to and you also need to consider light and air ventilation. Some furniture may be unsafe depending on what types of paint or varnish is involved, so whatever you get, I would strip it down and redo it. Also, you need to be aware if there's an overly strong wood smell inside. A door on top is helpful for cleaning and feeding, but you'd also want a door on the side (possibly with a ramp, if necessary) so bun can come and go as she pleases.

They are really beautiful!!  I have been looking for something like that, and then gave up. ( I am not patient..lol) So I ended up making one out of the NIC cubes. Someday when I find the perfect piece of furniture, I will do something like this.

I would LOVE to incorporate my rabbits into my livingroom furniture! Has anyone seen Mikebun? I'll bet he could whip something up in no time...

As far as hutches go these are amazing looking. I am not a fan of hutches myself because they are hard to sanitize and don't give a bunny much floor space. I had a furniture hutch as a child for guinea pigs. It was made to look like a dollhouse. I stopped using it after one of my guinea pigs developed conjunctivitis from the high concentration of hay dust in the hutch. So I agree with Beka. All sides should have grids.

Those are real nice! I really like seeing what people come up with. I recognise that last one from Ikea Hacker. Bunny's name is Eames

You posted that you are looking to adopt a rabbit(s). First time round, I would look at a fairly simple setup until you get to know what they're like. There's nothing like hands-on experience to let you know what will and won't work for you and your particular rabbit(s). No point investing in beautiful furniture if you end up with a rabbit that loves chewing anything wood. My own chief specification for anything to do with habitats is how easy something is to clean!

Very good point Jersey. I think most of us started with more simple set-ups initially, and then later on you can add on or build up or get something new. You can do an xpen or a simple NIC grid pen to start and then figure it out from there.
