Where did you get your bunny? Whats his/her story? Flopsy was a flea-market bunny. We all know what I’m talking about- the bunnies that are crammed into dirty cramped cages with little to no food & water. See that day I was out with my friends. We were going to see a movie but we left way to early so we had a couple of hours to kill. We see a little flea-market so were like hey we can go over there & see if they have anything we could use for the play ( all of us are theater kids ). As soon as we get there I see a lady about to toss a tiny bun into the woods. Long story ( are verbal fight haha) short Flopsy ended up going home with me that day. He sadly passed away but he will ALWAYS be in my heart.

         So what’s you buns story?

Otto was kind of my birthday present last year. I had been researching buns for a while, but my husband wasn’t convinced. Finally, on my birthday, he said we could get a bunny So he wasn’t quite a birthday present, but I’m pretty sure I pulled the “it’s my birthday and I want a bunny!!” card. We brought him home two months later (his birthday is 3 days before mine).

He actually came from a local breeder. I wish I had adopted from a shelter, and plan to do so in the future, but at least the woman I got him from is a responsible breeder who loves her animals. I keep meaning to send her a photo update of Otto …

I got Monkey from a bunny show a 3 hour drive away. I had spent months researching buns and how to care for them, and we had gone to several bunny shows to see different breeds. I saw Monkey all alone in a tiny wire bottomed cage, 7.5 weeks old. She looks so tiny and miserable, so she came home with us

Moose I got a couple months ago, from a local rabbit rescue. We took Monkey around to meet other buns, and she decided she liked Moose the best. She seems ot have forgotten that however….

I got Leroy from the shelter in July 09. And Jeannie was a gift from my bf for Valentine’s day. I got her from my local rabbit rescue.

i got hershey from a local breeder who treats her buns like pets not as money makers or possesions. she loves her bunnies and is very responsable. kisses was from someone who left her outside all year in a tiny dog crate she was exposed comletly to the elements and was never held, they had ‘released’ her into the wild 3 times thinking ‘it was the better thing to dofor her’ i dont know why but she always came back to them… she was 1 1/2 years old, she was extreamly ‘agressive’ and it took months just to get her to not lunge at me when i put mt hand in her pen or pick her up. i didnt have the time to teach her to trust people again so i gave her to someone who now spends all day with her. i got twix off kijiji her owner was selling her because her landlord said she could no longer keep the bunny…

I regret to admit that I didn’t do much research before getting my first rabbit (Stormy- my Mini-Rex). I had always had little pets my whole life (hamsters and guinea pigs), I VERY wrongly assumed that a rabbit would be similar to a guinea pig. After debating about adding a dog to our 5 cat family, my bf and I decided it wasn’t a good idea so we discussed adding a smaller pet to the family. I wanted a bunny because I always loved them but never owned one. Ricky told me we would get one in about a month or so. So the next day ( )I got Stormy from a pet store (I know….bad again…). I went during my lunch break and there were 3 little Mini-Rex babies. I didn’t know how I would decide but I knew if there were only 2 left I would get them both because I would feel too bad breaking them up. When I went back after work there was only 1 left. He just happened to be the greatest bunny of all time. Geez, I lucked out

My mom saw some cute bunnies at the garden shop – babies, they were going for sale soon and she asked me if I wanted one. I of corse did and we booked one- a black netherland dwarf. I did lots of research on bunnies and learnt a lot about them. I searched breed kinds, care, diet and everything you need to know. While reading about breeds I read that Netherland’s can be moody and high strung, well I wanted a calmer, more cuddly bunny (even if he/she did not like being held as long as he/she was friendly). I read that holland lop bunnies were friendly so I looked for a breeder online. (I had canceled the booking on the other bunny) I found breeder and planned to get a boy because I heard boys were nicer (I planned to have him/her altered either way). Well when I got there I held all the bunnies and Fern was the most calm and friendly so I booked her (the breeder’s daughter said she was her favorite of all the babies). The breeder was really nice and we were lucky because we got first pick and this was their last litter because they realized that there were too many unwanted bunnies. Well when Fern was seven weeks old we got to take her home!! I was so excited and she sat on my lap on the way home. Thats how the bunnieness started.

Thistle I was at petsmart looking at bunny stuff and I saw thistle in a cage (petsmart helps out our shelter and adopts out their bunnies for them). He was beautiful and the perfect age and he was a boy. I had been thinking about getting a second bunny to keep Fern company, and we went back another day to look at him. He was healthy and had just been neutered. We booked him that day and went home to think on it. The next day we went and got him! and a month later I started the bonding!

Moonlight, it’s funny that you mention how you got first pick of Fern. I was up for a broken colored boy bun, but I was last on the list. I actually kind of liked Otto’s brother better (based on pics), but someone else picked first and also picked Otto’s brother. I’m so glad that they picked the other bun and I got Otto! He started out pretty nervous and shy, but he’s really become the best bunny ever.

Well, I have 6 bunnies currently but I’m going to have to start at the beginning of my lifelong obession cause its a funny story.  From the time I could talk I wanted a bunny.  My parents always told me I could when I was older since they knew they would be taking care of the bunny and not their 5 year old.  Well, Christmas came and guess what I asked for on Santa’s lap…..and guess what he said….my parents weren’t happy with Santa that year.  Hence my first bunny Mr. Freddy:

Since then I’ve  had a quite few but just to list where I’ve gotten my current buns

Rupert: I rescued him while I was in college from a local rescue group.  He was rescued from a house that had over 100 bunnies running loose, they lady also had a few dogs and 3 kids.  She had some mental issues and was a bit of a hoader as they started with 2 bunnies 3 years prior.  I volunteered some time there and the house was falling apart.  The rescue group would bi monthly or so bring in volunteers to clean out rabbit cages in the basement while the lady decided if she was going to part with them.

Benny: Purchased at a local pet store because my husband has always wanted an albino, pink eyed bunny.  He fell in love on the spot.

Smokey:  Smokey was purchased from the same pet store that Benny was a few months later.  Cute baby bunnies are my weakness!

Flo:  Was rescued from an older gentlement who had about 20 rabbits running around in an outdoor enclosure for a few years.  He also started out with 2 for his grandkids and they multiplied.  I originally fostered Flo with all intentions of rehabilitating her and finding her a home.  She was very skittish and had never been interacted with except to be thrown food.  The night we got the call that the main foster lady had room for her me and my husband on the spot decided to keep her.  About 10 minutes later she “lazy laid” or stretched out to relax for the first time ever.  it’s like she knew she was home.

Dug and Monster:  They were both adopted from the local APL.  We were considering adding just one more bunny to try and bond with Rupert.  We knew what kind of bunny we needed for Rupert, someone who liked to groom and was brave.  I went up to the APL and fell in love with both.  Monster had been returned twice to the shelter and when I reached in he sniffed me, sat for pets, then went about his busines.  Every time I stuck my hand in his cage he would do the same thing..he was just so sweet I fell in love.  The next weekend they both came home and I’m glad we got them!!!

Ricky told me we would get one in about a month or so. So the next day ( )I got Stormy

Lol!  btw LPT, many of us are in same boat, not knowing much about rabbits when getting one. Important thing is you stepped up and learnt what you needed to know.  I’ve always liked this (grammatically challenged) saying  that I read years ago: “Your WAS-ness doesn’t matter if your AM-ness really IS.”

I got Jersey (well, Jersey got me!) when I went into a pet shop to buy a small gift. Saw her, left with her in a cardboard box!  She was probably 3 month old I think.

I brought Rumball home 11 months ago. He was advertised in the local paper as a give away.  It was nearing Easter and I got caught up in the thought he’d be snake food or taken as an Easter gift that could be unwanted. Probably not likely but I was susceptible. So I rang, went down the down the next day and brought him home.  His owners were nice people who were moving to an apartment. He was actually their sons rabbit but he was overseas.

Well compared to you all, I guess my story of how I got Leroy and Jeannie isn’t really all that exciting…

I do want to add this:

When I decided I wanted a bunny, it was winter 08/09. I thought about it and researched and researched and read everything I could get my hands on and I visited the shelter several times though I knew I wasn’t in a position to get a bunny right then – my old apartment had a strict no pets policy. There were actually two bunnies at the shelter in that time that I fell in love with and wanted to bring home. Both were adopted before my living situation changed, and I was so disappointed. Summer rolled around, I had moved and was allowed to have a pet, my roommate didn’t mind so… I looked at (ok, stalked) the humane society for two weeks – I had seen a picture of a bunny that I wanted and I was paranoid that he’d get adopted before I could get to the shelter and bring him home myself…. Well, things worked out, and I brought home Leroy!! Even though he wasn’t the bunny I initially had my heart set on, I couldn’t be more pleased with him! And I AM glad that those other bunnies got homes.

A similar thing happened with Jeannie. Those of you who have been around on the forum for a while remember that last December I was toying with the idea of getting another bunny for Leroy. Then, I had my heart set on this gorgeous grey mix bunny named Charlotte at the humane society. The time wasn’t right then, but just a couple weeks ago it was. I went back to the humane society’s webpage and Charlotte had been adopted! But then I came across Jeannie on my HRS’s website and fell in love with her. I’m so glad it worked out between her and Leroy and that Leroy chose her! (He and Mira didn’t get along very well – the one eared bunny I was also considering back in December).

Also, when I was little, my parent’s got a REW netherland dwarf bunny for my sister and I. We found her breeder at the state fair rabbit show, and then a few weeks later we went to pick up Little Sugar! I’m not proud of the fact that we bought from a breeder rather than adopt, but I was little and didn’t know any better.

Katie, I used to sit on the floor like that when I was little…totally wrecked out my knees! ^_^ But what a cute picture!

My story is all over this forum. Mimzy was abandoned at my husband’s business with two red-eyed whites and after someone took home one of the whites and the other disappeared and with winter coming on, hubby brought Mimzy home for me. He figured the people who dropped them off there were in his restaurant the day before feeling him out to see if he would take care of them.

Pip was at our PETCO for six months before my daughter bought her. She was the last one they had there that year and after we’d had Mimzy during that summer, she decided she wanted a bun. I tried to bond her to Mimzy but when he got sick I had to separate them. But she still lives int eh pen above him so she doesn’t have to be completely away from him.

Fiver was returned to our PETCO by the woman who’d bought him for her sons (aged 8-10 years) and felt he wasn’t ‘cuddly’ enough for them. I remember seeing her in the store a few days after we adopted Fiver, buying another tiny bunny for her kids. I wanted to strangle her.

I hope someday to find bunny #4 in need of a good home…I want to rebond Mimzy and Pip and that means Fiver will need a companion…. (I don’t think Pip will accept him, she is pretty aggressive towards him.) But I’ll still try to get the three together if I can.

MJ came into my life when a coworker of mine flat out asked me one day “do you want a bunny?” i was immediately hesitant because, while i had wanted a bunny my entire life, i know the responsibilities that comes with adopting a pet. i live with my boyfriend and his dog had recently passed away. i wasn’t sure if we were ready for a new pet, but the house was so awfully lonely and we really wanted a pet. i knew adopting a dog so soon was out of the question and thought maybe the rabbit would be perfect. also, i wanted a cat very badly but he is super allergic, so i wondered if a bunny would be okay. very different from a cat, but i would be just as happy with a bunny or a cat.

so i thought about all this in an instant and then the girl proceeded to tell me more about the bunny. she said, “well, my mom and i saw it over easter and just had to get him)though actually she said her bc they thought he was a girl at the time) cause he was so cute, but we already have 3 cats and 2 dogs and really don’t need another pet. plus, he poops a lot and we don’t like cleaning his cage.” now mind you, this was june when she was telling me this, so it had been a while since easter. this was obviously the product of what happens when people buy cute bunnies on a whim and then realize one day “oh no! it poops!” so, without showing my anger, i made up my mind. i HAD to adopt this rabbit.

so my boyfriend and i go over to her house, fully prepared to adopt the rabbit. we’d taken a crash course in bunny 101 the day before and bun-proofed the house and gotten everything as ready as possible for him. i must admit, when we arrived i was expecting him to look like.. well.. a rabbit. instead i saw this little ball of fur that looked like a cross between a gremlin and a teddy bear. i was in love.

at the time we didn’t know his breed, sex, or age. heck, i wasn’t even sure he was a bunny by the looks of him! either way, we brought him home and i’ve been so happy ever since!

so that’s the story of how Michael Jackson AKA The King of Hop entered my life. =)

I got Karl on my 30th birthday, because I missed having a pet so badly. I had had to give up my cat 6 months earlier (thankfully, he is only at my parents’ place and once we have a house, I will get him back) and I was really feeling low and empty without a pet. A dog was out of the question at that time, and I did not want to get a new cat as I could not do that to my old cat…so I finally decided on a rabbit. My boyfriend is a bit funny about animals, so I let him chose our new family member, and it was love at first sight for these two. And that was it.

After a while I noticed that Karl seemed like a bored bunny and I felt sorry for him. So I started looking for a female for him and found one on a website that corresponds to craigslist. I e-mailed back and forth with the owner for 1 month or so and finally the day arrived. My boyfriend was so upset about Molly – she was fat and a much bigger breed than he had imagined at all. She had spent the first two years of her life in a small commercial cage without time outside the cage and she was fed only pellets and bananas.

Then 4 months later or so there was a thread in here once about what bunny you would love to own one day – and people posted such cute pictures of various breeds I had never seen before. So of course, I just had to check the craigslist again to see what type of breeds the breeders were selling in my country…and I noticed the ad for Jack. I had actually spotted Jack while I was searching for my female few months earlier, so it broke my heart that no one wanted him. I called the owner who had planned to have him put away the week after, and two days later, he was mine. He was used to living on his own on a balcony and his owner was hardly ever home. Her boyfriend had an allergy and they were moving in together, so Jack had to go now.

My grandma agreed with me that i should have a pet companion when i moved in with my dad in dec 2009.

My mom passed away that month and I had to move in with my dad.

My dad agreed and said it was okay for me to get a pet.

So I did my research and asked questions to my friends that also own bunnies. I bought books and magazines. I knew that I wanted a dwarf rabbit because they are so tiny and cute.

After having a fall out with another person that was seling a rex/dwarf (the seller had wanted the boy and the girl bunny to go together… and i only wanted one). I was convinced that it wasn’t meant to be.

I was upset for a few days and my friend found a site about a woman that was selling her black otter bunnies.

My boyfriend and I drove the 50+ miles to get Koucha in January of this year

Bun, I was browsing craigslist for small animals…being curious. I came across Bun and saw she looked like a siamese cat! I love siamese cats, I’ve grown up with them and love the breed and coloring. The owner lived over 2 hours away but she had called me the next morning asking me to come up and adopt bun. They were moving across seas and she really needed to find a new home for her bad! She had a lot of kids and they used to show her in 4H. I don’t know anything really about it but I know it’s really good for kids and teaches them responsability and the love of their animals. So after talking to her in the morning, I set off to get her and fell in love right away. I hadn’t held a rabbit in YEARS and I was super afraid lol! I must have been 6-7 the last time I had a bunny! This was back in May 2009 and I found this website when I was looking up how to care for her properly. It was totally random and so spuratic but that’s how my personality is.

Indiana Jones/ Indy came to me in the fall I believe. I was wearing a sweater that day. I was going to the feedstore to buy a bale of hay and of COURSE they had to have a disgusting cage full of about 10 baby bunnies! They said an old man dropped them off in the morning cage and all. I couldn’t take my eyes off them, I held them all for over 2 hours…They probably thought I was insane!! I was so struck by them, I had never seen rabbits with blue eyes before…they were all so cute. I couldn’t tell any of the sexes apart, they were far too small. Eventually I picked one out and it cost me a huge whopping $10. My mom’s been going to that feed store since she was 14 years old and she knows the owner and gave him lots of guff for letting me get a rabbit, haha but he didn’t know I was her daughter! Anyways, he jumped out of the box on the way home and I held him in my lap all the way home. I didn’t have anything for him! I didn’t have toys, alfalfa, young bunny pellets, nothing! I was so stressed and the members here were so kind to me to help me through my stupidness. I don’t exactly know how I picked him. Some of you know that I lost my Grandma over the summer and she was a huge animal lover and I believe she helped me pick him. He’s turned out to be really special. I never thought I would sleep at night with a rabbit in my bed. When I’m at work and school I can’t stop talking about him or telling people stories about him, I work at a drive-thru Starbucks and I always conversation start about my rabbit. It’s such a great ice breaker to get to know people and be friendly, which is a huge part of my job. I don’t know, he’s just an amazing little guy and loves getting attention from me. He’s been completely spoiled and I am so glad I rescued him from who knows what could have happened. I have a photo of him when I first got him to what he looks like now.  I just took the photo.

You can see how grubby he was, I have other photos but you get the idea, it was sad He was SO skinny too!

                                             Indy Bun …tonight!

BumbleBee Blossom. Sigh. lol. Like I needed a third rabbit. My friend was constantly raving over Indy and was really interested in getting a rabbit for himself after seeing how cool they really are! So we went out on a rabbit search and came to these Holland Lops. Bee was the first one I picked from the liter, I didn’t care girl or boy I just thought she was absolutely darling. Mike wanted a male and so he held the little guy for awhile. We were there for a really long time holding these baby holland lops. I really really didn’t need her, I don’t know what I was thinking but I couldn’t leave without her. I know you have all had something in your life like that. She’s such a little doll, I am really glad I got her even though I know I should have adopted and I screwed up and didn’t help out the homeless rabbit situation. My mom’s 60 year old friend was crawling around on my floor playing with Bee the other night, it was hystarical!! She thought Bee was the cutest thing ever and was squeeling, which made Bee binky all over, ugh it was pretty cute rofl. I never thought I’d have a 60 year old woman flipping out about her though lol! Sally is pretty funny though, a great friend of my mom’s. Anyways just another one of my random things I do. But really I am done and won’t get any more babies because 3 is all I can handle right now!

I had been thinking about getting a bunny to live out with my chickens but a rescue group said that was a big no no so i put it on the back burned.

Another rescue group asked if I could foster a single male for two weeks and well Bugz just never left. He also came to me on the same night as my Eckie died so it was strange (she was a rescue as well). A few weeks later I was in a pet shop and found Anya who had been left behind when her mum and siblings had been sold off, I forced the guy to let me have her and the plan was to then rehome when she was old enough 9she was under 6 weeks when i got her) however she pretty much stole my heart and Bugz and her had an almost instant bond and she is so calm to him jumpyness that they work so they both stayed.

Having said that I always said if i was going to get a rabbit i would get an Orange lop. I ended up with a grey ND and a silver martin lop.

My parents let me get a rabbit when I was about 10 years old after I showed them I did all my research.  We bought a cage and everything and my dad took me to the mall to look at the rabbits and I picked out a little one in the corner by himself.  That was Mickey

When I got married and moved out I left Mickey with my family because he was 12 years old and I was afraid about putting him in a new envirnoment.  So visiting him as much as I could we wanted to get a pet for ourselves.  A dog was too much (and I have no experience with dogs and am more comfortable around something with smaller teeth lol!)  My husband had been around Mickey a little and we agreeed on getting a rabbit.  So that brings us to Archie…  I found him on petfinder.  He was found outside on Halloween 2008 and was at the Geauga Rescue Village for 2 months.  As soon as I saw his picture I knew we had to go up and get him he was so cute!  I drove out to the petstore while my husband was at work and bought all the supplies (after doing more recent research which was a whole lot different than when I was 10).  We drove an hour up to Cleveland and met little Archie and adopted him!

In March 2009 we adopted Gracie from Judge’s Park in New Castle (which was about another hour drive).  We thought Archie could use a friend and I read Gracie’s story and my heart was breaking for her.  This was her profile when I saw it: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi  She also had children chasing her for fun.  She has scares on her ears but for an abused rabbit she sure is a diva now!

We decided to help out Judge’s Park by fostering.  We fostered Parsnip a month before and when she went to get spayed we decided to pick up this cute little lop named Sandy.  Parsnip wasn’t to personal and there was some talk about someone looking at her to adopt her (which she eventually did get adopted and is bonded with another bun).  Since someone was going to look at her we decided to leave her there so we wouldn’t have to drive all the way back up.  We picked up Sandy and oh what a cutie!  We fell in love with her.  I think we had her for a few weeks or a month…I can’t remember exactly.  And we got an email that there was a family interested in her for their daughter but since we had her we had first pick if we wanted to keep her.  I was sooo torn!  Sandy loves attention and lives for it.  But I thought about when I was little with my rabbit (who had just passed away a few months before), this daughter is going to go to school, maybe date, go off to college and what’s going to happen to Sandy?

I emailed her back the next day and said we couldn’t let her go and we were going to adopt her.  Which I’m glad now because when she asked the family if they wanted to look at any of the other rabbits they said no they only wanted a brown rabbit.  Which it shouldn’t matter what color or breed it is.  So I think that’s all of their stories.  Oh and Sandy was at the shelter because her previous owners found out they had allergies (or so that was said)   This was her profile: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi

oh wow skibunny! What stories your rabbits have! I had to laugh reading in Gracie’s petfinder profile already that loud noises do not faze her… talk about futility of stress bonding! I can’t be mad enough at people letting their children hit an animal. It is so low. What a tough bunny Gracie is, you would never think now she went through all that abuse.
And Sandy’s photo on Petfinder, how could you not love her? I’m saying now, fedex her up to me and i will bond her — to mine!!! j/k!

My brothers had outdoor rabbit hutch bunnies when I was very young, but other than that I had never had a bun before. I am such an animal nerd that I have done reports in school on rabbit care and enjoy having knowledge of all animals and pets. So I was not blind when I found my Bunny two years ago.
In fact I had been wishing for a bunny for a few months to that point. I often joked about getting one, though I wouldn’t because we had 4! cats at the time and a gazillion fish tanks to keep up with. But Bunny was fated to me I guess.

It was October, my sister had just went out for the evening and I got a phone call. It was her, she was at the end of our street and told me there was a bunny hopping around and that I should go catch it and that she had given up. Our street ended onto a very busy one, so I quick grabbed the cat carrier and ran up the street. That’s where I saw Bunny. He was very beautiful with his spotty markings. I spent a good half hour at least trying to coax him into the carrier without actually touching him. I was afraid of him. He was very calm and was just hopping around eating dandelions outside of Advanced Auto Parts. Finally, I just grabbed him and put him in myself. The whole time I was thinking how ridiculous I must look if anyone were watching. Walking back and forth with this carrier. Well it turns out my sister’s boyfriend was eating in his car at the McDonalds across the street watching me the whole time! He didn’t know what the heck I was doing. Haha.

So I brought him home. Assembled the wire dog kennel and put him in my garage. The next day one of the cats died from a terrible accident. So I was glad to have the distraction of a new pet to help me not be so upset. Soon after that, Bunny was brought into the house and made to be the best house bunny ever! I have no cats now and only a few fishtanks so Bunny gets all the attention he could ask for (and more).

Crayon, that’s very sad about your cat, but I know what you mean about having a new pet to take away the sting.

                                                        What happened to Mickey?

Yup you wouldn’t know how much abuse she went through meeting her now!  A person that worked with the shelter found out about her (maybe she was a neighbor or something) and convinced the owner to surrender Gracie.  Apparently he was trying to breed her with an angora but the angora turned out to be a girl so I wonder if some of those scares were from possibly fighting.  He said that Gracie bits and she bit him once and he hit her and after that she didn’t bit him again….guess he was pretty proud of himself for that   She wasn’t fixed and got fixed once she was at the shelter.  Also was pretty filthy, cage was hardly cleaned and had poo all over her behind.  Poor girl!  She’s living the good life now though.

LOL I don’t think Archie or Gracie will miss her

Mickey went to the rainbow bridge last April   He would have been 14 years old this Aug.  So he lived a pretty long life.  My dad called me up and said that he could hardly stand up and kept falling.  My family was heart broken.  I thought it was only fair that I take him to the vet that night so he wouldn’t suffer anymore since I mostly took care of him when I lived there.  Probably one of the hardest things I had to do.  He was so old that to make him go through tests wouldn’t be fair to him, I didn’t want to put him through anymore pain.  I actually found video when I was transfering home movies the other day of him outside digging in the grass.  Made me smile.  The store said he was a nethie dwarf but his ears weren’t that small.  He was some kind of dwarf rabbit.

I was one of the very nieve people who purchased a rabbit for my daughter as a pet. (but she was graduating high school) she asked, so we purchased one for her for her graduation gift.  The baby shortly thereafter died of some sort of parasite and she was devastated.  Her sister had gotten one at the same time. (they were siblings) I immediately called up the breeder and she insisted she bring another one for her free of charge and so she had her second bunny. we did all kinds of research and boy have we learned a tremendous amount!

At 6 months old, she did the responsible thing and took him in to be neutered, and he was paralyzed from the vets office and a long story short- had to be put down. This was in October. It was horrible!  At this time, I had also gotten a beatiful baby boy bunny named Willie for myself and my other daughter as we had just fallen in love with this breed!!  Mine was a flemish giant and my girls were mini rex’s

My daughter couldn’t bear the idea of saying goodbye to another bun, so left it at that.  My other daughter went to live at dads and she took her bun with her. That household now has 5 buns!!!!!!  I shutter to think how that will go later on…they are all young. (whole other story)

anyhow, so my household is just down to the one very spoiled bun now. Mine was bought from a breeder about 1 1/2 hours away.  I just fell apart when my duaghter took her bun to her father’s I loved him so much, so that was when I got mine. He just turned 7 months and was neutered on WEd. as some of you already know….Willie turned out to be a GIRL and now her name is Nili. lmao.  What a crazy week. The buns started out tragically, but now I could not imagine my life without her!

I had been looking up info on house rabbits for a few months before I decided to get one. So finally when I decide to actually get a bun, my hubby and I went to a pet store to check out how much supplies cost, what supplies they had, etc. They also had some bunnies there. There was one lop bunny housed with a younger litter of all black and all gray bunnies. They were so cute, I thought the lop had the prettiest coloring. Some of the younger buns were sprawled out over the lop and they were all cuddled up. Since we were there only to check things out, we didn’t buy anything and left.

WELL, I couldn’t stop thinking about that lop. I thought it had the most beautiful coat. I needed to have him. So the next day we hurry back to the pet store and of course I get the lop and my hubby picks out a cute little gray bun from the other litter. I brought them home on the Saturday before Easter, so Peepi and Warri are my little easter bunnies.

This March will be 5 years since I brought them home, wow. I really can’t remember what life was like before bunnies, it seems like it was probably pretty dull compared to now!

I got Pacey from a man standing outside the pound who didn’t want to take him inside. He had hand fed Pacey from birth so it was probably extremely hard for him to let go. I am so glad he didn’t take him inside since the shelter he was standing outside is notorious for putting small animals to sleep within 12 hours most people don’t know this but volunteering at a shelter you hear some bad bad things. But he was moving out of the country and no one would take the little bunny. I thought he was a puppy at first but after proving he would be going to a great home the man handed him over.

Marshmallow I adopted from a shelter. She was my fatty bunny that I had to actually put effort into picking her up. And when I did her dewlap was so big you couldn’t see her face anymore .  I took Pacey bunny dating and he is the one he picked he got along with all of the bunnies mostly since he is super laid back but he definitely got along with her best  of course he would pick the meanest bunny there! LOL! I love Marshmallow but I swear she gets into more trouble than all 3 of my ferrets put together. And believe me if you have ferrets you KNOW what I am talking about!

For me it all started with Daily Bunny.com. I noticed that most of the photos on there were from rescues. Of course, that got me thinking. . .

A few months after my dog died, the house was getting pretty lonely. J does NOT like cats, so that as out of the question.
One day I said “What about a bunny?”
                                                                        He said “That is interesting.”
I’m thinking “He did not say No!!!!!!”

I started to do some serious research. Found this place & CO-HRS. I went to meat with lots of bunnies. Kay & Winston were among them. They were so shy but all so sweet and goofy.
Then J and I went to meat with some bunnies. Kay & Winston were the last pair we met with. Kay settled right into my lap. When Winston was handed to J, Winston started to purr!
They came home a few days later.
That was just over 2 years ago. J & I are still amazed how great they are!!!

I get it in my head that I have to have an animal and then research the heck out of it. After the research is done I go about finding the right “one” for me.

Tank and Ranger: adopted from Craigslist. they were part of an oops litter. I shared some of my newfound knowledge with the owners of those bunnies, paid my rehoming fees, and went home with two very cute baby boy lionhead mixes.

Digger: I saw him at the pound. I work about 30 seconds away and I went there on my lunch break to see who was there. I had no intention of adopting a rabbit but he was a solid black mini-rex and was terrified…how could I NOT adopt him? He did not like being a single bunny. He tore up his cage, was aggressive with me and my girls, and was generally just a little butt hole bunny. I had been volunteering with Bunny Lu for a few months at this point and took him dating.

Marshmallow: She was actually a foster of mine for a few days while she transitioned from a public shelter in Maryland to Bunny Lu. She was cage aggressive, food aggressive and just generally had an antisocial personality. She’s beautiful, though so when a spot opened up at Bunny Lu I took her there and we tried working with her to get her used to people. She never did decide that she likes people. Anyway, Mary Ellen has a habit of trying to place the harder to deal with bunnies in the homes of volunteers who know what they’re dealing with, so of course the first one she told me to try with Digger was Marshmallow. I didn’t expect that to go well at all but it seemed to be love at first sight. I didn’t want to adopt the first bunny he laid eyes on so I put another one in the pen with him but he completely ignored her, put his paws up on the pen, and stared at Marshmallow in her cage from across the room. She sat in her cage and stared back with a forlorn look on her face so that bunny dating experience lasted all of 15 minutes. And now they live happily in a 5 cube cage below Tank and Ranger and prefer to be left alone with each other than fawned over by me.

Oliver and Ozzie: They bonded to Amber when she was working on socializing them. It was a case of “they picked her” and I had to comply.

Zinnia: She was a stray that Bunny Lu took in right off the street. At the time she might have weighed about 5 lbs. I was in love with her when she first came in…but at the time I already had two rabbits (ha!) and did not feel as though I should adopt another. She was adopted soon after and returned a few months ago. Mary Ellen and Julie teased me relentlessly when they found out she was coming back and I was adamant that I was not adopting another rabbit as I already had 6. However, I have wanted a flemish since I saw my first one…and when she was returned she was over 12 lbs! The second I saw her I fell to my knees, opened her cage door, and she hopped into my lap. She is a champion snuggler and without even thinking about it I told Mary Ellen that she was coming home with me.

Now I’m REALLY not adopting any more rabbits. I swear!
