I have often talked about how Dono likes to dig at my chest as if he’s going for my heart like in the second Indiana Jones movie.  Well I managed to capture it on my phone camera (hence the poor quality).  Do realize that this was about 30 seconds into it so he’s beginning to lose some steam.  You should note that I’m not holding him there in any way.  He’s free to leave whenever he wants.  He’d just prefer to get at my heart.

That is so funny! Now if you could just teach him to scratch those spots on your back that you can’t reach….

I added a speech bubble to it.  It was begging for one the way that Dono mugs to the camera.

If you can’t poke fun at yerself…

LMAO I love it! He looks like he doesn’t even realize that what he’s digging is a person – you’re just like a really large diggy toy to him.

I love the caption! Dono and my Lola should get together, she’s a notorious boob biter! My son won’t hold her unless he’s wearing 2 tee shirts, a canvas apron and my denin shirt on backwards.

That is too funny! 0_0 You know, it just occurred to me how differently some bunnies dig. Fiver digs this way, but only on his bedding. Mimzy takes both front paws and pulls back on them simultaneously…like a front loader. Then he reaches over and nips my leg. (ow)
Love the new avvy, btw…were you at one of those fire-eating events at the local U? ^_^

I showed this to my daughter and after Kathy’s comment about her son, she was suddenly reminded of the AFV episode where the guy is letting someone attach a crawfish to his nipple….AAAHHHHOOOOTHEPAIN!
At such a moment, I am glad to not have to worry about that anymore…lol.

lmao…I love the thought bubble too…so perfectly executed, it really looks like that’s what Dono is thinking.

lol That’s a dramatic ending there!  & Dono is so little!  What is this with the digging? Rumball does this to me sometimes. Jersey just nibbles at clothing more. I think language of lago’s needs to add “The Kali-mah” to it’s pages!

Okey, time for semi long story…

There is a guy who does the Ren Faire circuit whose stage name is Broon – can’t remember his real name now. Anyways, he does a great comedy routine that involves juggling and eating fire. He makes a comment during his performance of “Remember, it doesn’t matter where you come from, what nationality you are, your religious beliefs or sexual orientation. One bad decision in college and THIS (referring to him) could be you.” It turns out that he was also born exactly 10 days after I was.

Now, when I was in College, I worked the New York Ren Faire and I did magic tricks. I was asked by a juggling troupe if I wanted to go on the Ren Faire Circuit with them and I decided to finish college instead. So basically he is me if I had said “Yes” to them. So, I decided to learn how to eat fire. I actually found a book on the subject. The introduction page states in big bold letters “DO NOT EAT FIRE!” It goes on to say how it should only be done by professional performers and that they first weren’t going to write a book about how to do it because they didn’t want to encourage it. But they then realized that there are enough idiots out there who will try anyway so they felt it better to give them a guide. And the last sentence states “If you want to impress your friends and the girls, learn sword swallowing. The swords taste better and you don’t have to worry about the wind.”

But Broon was the ‘other’ me so I followed in his footsteps. Now I should note that fire eating can be dangerous. The “Wind” factor is that at any moment a breeze can change the direction of the flame and catch your hair on fire. The fuels are dangerous to your health, some are even carcenogenic. And if for some reason, I was to inhale the flame, it would singe all of the cilia in my lungs which would prevent them from moving the flem and I would literally drown in my own fluids.

Now with all of that being said, the secret to fire eating is being able to snuff it out with a lack of oxygen in your mouth before the heat burns you. If you notice a couple of the photos have a gout of flame above my mouth. That is done by putting the torch into my mouth and then removing it, letting the flame remain burning on the few vapors of fuel that were left behind by the torch. It is a very dangerous thing and I have to retrim my moustache after every performance.

Wow, that’s a pretty cool story!! Admit it: are you glad you finished college? Or do you wish you had gone into professional fire eating/juggling?

And don’t worry about the warnings – I can assure you I will never ever try fire breathing 😛

When my son went to college this fall, there was a fire juggling/eating troupe that performed there sometime before snow fell. He’s got video of it on his camera, but I think it’s mostly of his friends bouncing a flaming hacky-sack between themselves.
Mark, you are a man of many hidden talents aren’t you? But fire eating was not one I would’ve ascribed to you (I hope you weren’t seriously considering the sword swallowing either)….

Darnit…I was going to ask you a good way to encourage a headstrong young man (my son) to work harder at college and not run away with the circus, but if he sees this thread, I don’t think he’ll take your advice seriously.

A BA in Fine Arts, huh? How long did it take you to achieve that? My son just changed his major from computer science to art and I’d like a preview of what’s in store for him.

hey mimz, i’m a senior art major. i can tell ya all about it. i spent 3 years in architecture and changed to art last year.

                                                              the main points:
                                                              you need to be self-motivated
                                                              it’s very easy to slack
                                                              prepare to be poor
there’s seemingly no transition from the educational world to real world (there are in other majors, i.e. internships etc)

that being said, i enjoy art more than anything else. i’m so much happier. definitely glad i changed my major. i hope your son really enjoys it.

We wanted him to at least take a business course, but he’s not having any of it. I honestly wonder if we’re just paying for him to live in town and play video games all night long and sleep all day. :-/

                                                                  corpathina is right on!

I worked many years in the Photo Industry – then did the chef thing – now do some web design – all just different mediums.

I have a degree in commercial art and advertising (that’s what they called it back in the 70’s) and have worked as a graphic artist, typesetter, illustrator, signpainter, art director, photo retouch at Olan Mills, photographer assistant, film/printing lab, lot’s of interesting work. Got into web work in the late 1980’s since typesetting was a forerunner of html/php, etc. so I knew I liked doing that kind of work. Taking classes in programming now just to get an ‘official’ degree for what I already do in case our company doesn’t make it through this turmoil.

I envy people who can go into Hobby Lobby , buy a basket full of stuff and make these beautiful things. I draw and paint, but I guess I’m stuck in the 2 dimensional world….lol

We have a great Ren fair in October down near Houston, at Tomball, do you ever get there with your fire breath?

i’m not sure what i’m doing with art yet. i feel like you – i wanna do it all, just try different mediums. my concentration is sculpture, but i love 2d art just as much. and photography is a world i’m just dying to get into but haven’t yet, due to already being 4 years in school and needing to get out before my parents pull the plug on my financing.

and kralspace, i envy people who are good with graphics! i’m a terrible graphic designer. actually got offered a job to design a label a couple of weeks ago and had to turn it over to a friend of mine because i’m so clueless and terrible and graphic design! the grass is always greener on the other side. hehe

and that ren fair in houston is pretty awesome. the only one i’ve ever been to, so i don’t have much to compare to, but i imagine it’s got to be one of the bigger ones. cool stuff indeed.

I worked there for 5 years. After that I tried my had at being a personal chef – in this economy – Not so Much! Hence the current web design work.

My sister in law is extremely artistic (almost choose fine arts as her major) and can draw, paint, and do crafts like nobody’s business. I always get her to make me crafty stuff as presents (which she likes, since she’s just out of college and poor :-P) Our wedding present from her was an awesome afghan. She also painted a beer pong table for hubby in college with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (which we still have, and use!).

I’m terrible at art and always want to be crafty, but I just don’t have it in me I guess. I tried to start knitting for the 5th time and ended up with a 7″ long scarf :-/

A couple of months ago all the theater kids at school went to the Texas Renaissance Festival. It was awesome. Everything about it. But I can assure you I will NEVER be a fire eater. Fire scares me, bad experience seven years ago.

OH there’s so many people into the arts! I’m currently a junior in high-school but when I get to college I WILL major in theater. I’ve been performing since I was 7. Ever since that first performance I’ve been hooked. I have not looked back since. I have to have theater in my life, if it wasn’t  I would be miserable. I know that sounds horribly melodramatic but it’s the truth. The only place I feel  at home is on stage. It’s a feeling I can’t even describe.
I’m taking business classes to though just to be safe. A- It’s an agreement I have with my parents. B- It’s something I truly am interested in.

I guess the hard part for me is, I home-schooled my kids for most of their lives. I was a pretty hard taskmaster. I expected a bit more enthusiasm out of both of them to 1) graduate high school with decent grades and 2) more interest in getting back into a ‘real’ classroom and learn things of a more broad scope than the stuff they gave us to teach them through correspondence.
Sadly, all it’s managed to do is get my daughter completely confused about mathematics, hence she’s still stuck getting her GED…and I’ve already explained that my son has a very lackadaisical attitude about his own education.
He’s still going to have to get a job if he doesn’t get his grade point average up. I’m not paying for his to just goof off for 4-7 years. His only other option is to come back and work for his dad again, and that is NOT happening. World War 4 is to likely to result.

I love graphics and computer drawing, but I’m stuck in the dummy corner since I can’t afford fancy programs and wouldn’t know how to use them if I had them. I can still hear my daughter, back when she was in grade school, whining that she couldn’t draw by hand like I could…now she’s surpassed anything I could even dream of with her own talent that she honed by herself. She’s been able to take it on to the electronic medium as well and I have to ask HER now, “Um…how do you do this again?” Embarrassing.
This is why I wanted both of them to get into computer-SOMETHING…because barring an EMP (or Maryann with a large selection of Molotov cocktails) we’re always going to have computers and there’s always going to be a need for web design or technical prowess.
