So I feel like everytime I call this vet I went to – the receptionist is always too busy for me. I call and get put on hold as soon as I say hello. This has happened 4-5 times.

Anyways, I tried calling and asking how much a rabbit spay is to be done by them, versus using the voucher. She said it ranges from 350 to 450. Uhm….how can they charge that much when the humane society uses them to do it for 100$. What would my rabbit be missing out on during sugery??? Anyways, I started to ask her this and she told me to call back Monday and was all flustered. Whatever. I could tell she was busy but she didn’t have to cut me short. Why didn’t she offer to call me back to answer my questions? Rude witch.

the humane society prob gets a discount. i know a lot of shelters get them done for way cheaper than we would. i hate when ppl act like that though. that was really rude. its not your fault that they were busy.

Called our vet …they want $256.92 for the female, $54 for an exam before. Annnnnnd the receptionist didn’t even know if they spay/neuter rabbits. *cringe*

Major difference is blood work and fluids during the procedure.

That vet that would do it for like $170…the spay/neuter directer told me she wouldn’t take her pets there.

I know I know…they were very kind to me when I did go there with Indy…but It just felt so weird not meeting the vet, talking about what was going on and then checking the pet out to make sure he was set for surgery. And they did call me the next day to check how Indy was. I think I just need to calm down and go through them again with Bun and Blossom

Whoa… that seems like way too much.

How are you feeling, by the way?

Gah I’m okay. I just called into work and told them I don’t think I can put a shoe on…and even worse I have an 8 hour shift tomorrow and it’s going to be really really hard to get it covered. No one wants to work weekends – especially an 8 hour shift on one. I was embarrassed because I made it worse by digging in it and cutting it…and it’s killing me. Hopefully I can get in a walk-in appointment on Monday. My shift said just get a doctors note and she’ll try to get my shift covered on Monday too, which won’t be hard at all, I think it’s only 4.5 hours. I told her I don’t think I could stand that long and I believe it would be some sort of health hazard if I soaked it in the back room on my 10’s and lunch. Like..it’s probably against some health code that I can’t do that…I’m working with food and drinks…I can’t just bust out my foot and soak it…that just seems so nasty. Blah oh well. Just trying to check out more options for vets right now. Thanks for asking though *stress stress stress stress stress*

What happened Lin? I must’ve missed this…foot trouble?
I dunno…I know people get busy, but if you want to run a decent establishment, just take a number and call your client back when you have more time to discuss stuff. How hard is that?
Also, with females, the spay is a little more involved than removing the male organs. I not only think it’s a high price, but I also find it infuriating that you can’t seem to get a moment with the vet who will do the job. I wouldn’t just hand my bun off to some nameless, faceless entity for any surgical procedure. As the professional, it’s part of what I’m paying them for to meet with me, talk about what they’re going to do and inform me of any risks or aftercare procedures I need to bone up on. Otherwise, imo, it’s not a ‘professional’ organization.
                    Just my two cents. ^_^

Goodness the vets too.  Alright people stop being rude to Lintini.   You want business  act like it.  My vets office is busy too but they take msgs. and I can speak to the vet directly if I ask.   I can email her too. They have a website and  I can access my buns info there.  Like what meds Cotton has had n such.

I hope you get good service and find the right vet for  you.  Since ours is just down the street if I got treated like that I would stop in. I don’t know if you got the to go in and ask your questions or not tho.

I don’t know, it’s the same girl that picks up the phone everytime and she sounds absolutely frantic busy. I have no issues being put on hold but I just was frustrated today because I thought she would take time to talk to me since I was wanting to use them to spay and not the humane society. She bothered to look up the price but when I asked differences that’s when she told me to call back Monday…and it was Saturday at the time. Wow okay…*rolls eyes* That’s when I called our family vet and asked if they do rabbit spueters and she had to go ask the vet. I don’t know if she’s new or they just don’t do too many. I know Dr. Freeman pretty well, we bring our amazon parrot into him for her beak/nail – pedicures – beakicures? lol. And also the cats and dogs too…but errr..okay I just asked the price. Then this other vet in the area that would spay for 170 …I don’t care for them much. When we got Leia back from her spay (dog) she was a wreck…they gave her back to us as a wreck…we waited an hour in the room to even get her!! AND the tech that came in said she had desolving stitches and she DIDNT!!! We had to come back and take them out! What the heck kind of operation are they running over there? Anyways…no thanks. I have more time to think.

Lintini, are you keep your feet really clean? Maybe you should soak them in some diluted hydrogen peroxide or something. If it hurts now, I imagine it would be way worse infected!

Don’t think of it as icky… we’ve all been there with various types of grossness. It’s just part of being human. Try your best to take of yourself and know that we’re thinking about you!

Unfortunatley I had a difficult time with vets in my area. I have been utilizing advice from this site  and also Davida who heads the Northern area of NY House Rabbit Society.  I am hoping that my crazy issues will be resolved shortly! We took our daughters bun to a “supposedly rabbit savy” vet in the canton area. After the surgery the rabbit was paralyzed and his back was broke. It was horrible and nothing I ever want to go through again. He had to be put down.  My daughter couldn’t get another rabbit, she was and Is too distraut over it. (she is 18) Then I went through the whole call back, we will call you back thing.  Finding someone reputable for rabbits here has been tough. I started getting gun shy, I felt almost bad to ask questions as it almost ended up with the same result…staff being annoyed. Then I called a vet here up on some recommendations from local people.  This vet not only answered all my questions, happily…he would even call me at work when he had time to ask if I had any more questions and he wanted to continue learning about buns and making sure I feel comfortable with him and his staff as well.

My advice…..they are all so right here….continue to ask questions, if they don’t have time, please try somewhere else. i am a very trusting person by nature. i try to see the good in everyone, but sometimes we let that get the better of us. If you feel like this when calling, imagine your frustration when there is something really wrong, will you get the attention and answers to calm your nerves? Or get the shuffle to call tomorrow?  I think you already know the answer and  you are just looking for clarification to go somewhere else.  Find someone you feel comfortable with !

zootoo was a good source too to read peoples comments about local vets around here. I didn’t know it existed until this month.
