i took julia and zoey to the vet yesterday.  julia weighs exactly 7 lbs!  she got her nails trimmed and is doing great.  zoey is 1.5 lbs, teeny tiny!  she is for sure a girl.  the vet was not sure how old she is.  she said i can bring her in to get spayed in a few months, when she is pretty much done growing or slowing down.  that way we can be sure that she is old enough.  she would also like her to be atleast or over 2 lbs.  i guess its easier to give anethesia(sp).  anyone use an e collar with a spay?  my vet was talking about them.  she got her nails trimmed too and seems to be in good health.  they do want a poop sample from both of them, so im kind of annoyed that they didnt tell me before i went, since its not very close to home.  has anyone had a bunny test positive for parasites in their poop without any runny poops or other signs?? im kind of worried bc she said the place i got zoey from isnt a good place.  i guess they have seen other animals from there that have some issues.  i also wasnt sure if julia has ever been checked for anything and since she was found outside a few months ago im pretty anxious to have hers  tested too.  hope all turns out ok.

My vet suggested it for my 2, and they had normal poop. Its kind of to rule out some stuff that can be scary later on.

My vet also suggested a poo sample when I first took Otto in. I’m going in for his yearly check up this afternoon and I believe they want to do another test. I’m not really sure why since he has no access to other buns, but if my vet recommends it I’ll do it.

My vet isn’t close to me either (45 min) so I feel your pain! The first time I took him in they forgot to ask for the poo sample and I had to make another trip down there with it.

they want me to bring in the poop and then they said it takes a few hours to test it. so i will either have to wait in the area in case they do need meds or i will have to make another trip to come pick up meds. it sort of defeated the purpose of bringing in julia and zoey in the same visit lol.

Hmm, I think my vet sent the samples out for testing – at least it took a few days before they had results. I would assume they won’t find anything and you won’t need meds (though admittedly I don’t know how common it is for the tests to come back positive).

On a personal note, my vet charged me $35 to run a fecal test last year. I just got back from the vet this afternoon and they charged $67!! Added to an $80+ office visit, it was kind of ridiculous. Does anybody know if it’s necessary to run it every year? Especially for a bunny who lives alone and has no contact with other bunnies (or the outdoors).

mine was $17. the office visit was $40. they already charged me for it so that i could just run in and drop it off. she is checking it herself. she said she just has to wait for it to be really soft, so thats what takes the longest i guess. they must mix it in some sort of solution or water so they can put it on a slide. maybe yours cost more bc they send it to a lab. also sounds like your vet is more expensive than mine since your visits are double. im not sure if its necessary or not but mine tests for it once a year too. i think they may be able to catch something from contaminated hay, veg, or pellets but im not sure.
