Ah BB friends… I had to tell you.

This trip to Colorado has been the trip from hell.  First, I got a flat tire.  Then the breaks gave out.  We realized that, when we got our car detailed before the trip (being responsible…) they did a bad job on the breaks and didn’t screw in some important part which flew off on the road and broke the rim of the side tire, causing the flat.  So when we fixed the flat, the breaks were still broken…

So already we’re wondering what in the world is going on to make so many obnoxious things happen.

Two days later, as my husband Stan was driving the Penske truck and I was driving our car, there was an accident ahead of us and cars were stopping suddenly.  Stan veared off to avvoid the cars, and I tried to do the same thing.  I lost control of the car and tried to turn the other way.  I overcompensated and rolled over in my vehicle three times.

        I am alive.

When the car rolled back on the wheels, I turned around and said “babies?” and couldn’t see my bunnies.  I started sobbing.  I could see blood on the car door and wondered if I had an injury that I couldn’t feel because I was in shock.  Firemen and EMTs ran to me and put me in a neck brace and sat with me while we waited for an ambulance.  I kept sobbing “please someone find my bunnies.” for what seemed like ages.  I couldn’t understand why no one would help me.

Finally, I saw a fireman through the broken window holding Remy.  I reached out my arms through the hold where the window used to be, and he put Remy into my hands.  I just held him under my neck brace and cried and cried.  Then I found out that Momo was okay too and I stopped crying and let them take me into the ambulance to the hospital.

I have stitches on my arm, which hurts horribly because I broke the window with it… very Chuck Norris.  And I have a bump on the head that gives me headaches.  But they CAT-scanned my entire body, except for my feet, and I’m miraculously fine.  I don’t know how or why I am alive, but I’m so grateful right now, if thoroughly traumatized.

The worst part about the entire thing, I think, is that Stan saw it all through his side mirror.  He thought I was dead.  He ran so hard to my car that he fell, and his hands are scraped and his arms are bruised.  When I think about how he felt, I start crying all over again.

Remy and Momo are fine and hoppinng around the hotel room.  Momo has a cut on her nose and under one ear.  She gets regular doses of original neosporin, which she does not appreciate.

Denver is starting to seem like the Lost City of Atlantis, but apparently we will arrive tomorrow.

So how’s that for a story?

Without a doubt, that is the scariest thing I have ever heard of when it comes to either people or bunnies…you have just lived through one of my worst nightmares. The idea that if I got in a car accident transporting them somewhere that they will be hurt or worse, or that I will…and then who will take care of them? I thank God you came through this okay, that your husband wasn’t hurt either and that the bunnies are well and accounted for. The Lord had His hand on your for sure!
Kudos to the EMT’s/firemen for being able to properly find Remy & Momo and get them to you quickly! I can imagine it’s not their average day they get to rescue widdle bunnies! Where on earth were they found??
I would’ve absolutely been screaming. Good on you for keeping your head.
I’ve only been in one ‘severe’ car accident in my life and I totally lost any semblance of self-control during it…that was when we spun out in our old Blazer and did about 3 360’s and teetered off a snow berm over a ditch in the early spring one year. All four of us were in the car and I was terrified thinking, “What’s going to happen to the kids??”
Hubby has been in more than a few rollovers himself and I still can’t imagine how he manages to walk away from those wrecks. I could just barely get my legs to move from fright when we did those brodies. Plus we had to walk part of the way home in the snow!

I DO hope you’re going to get a hold of that ‘detail company’ and sue them. That was pure negligence on their part and it obviously contributed directly to the accident.

Oh gosh, all these kind words make me feel so much better. We’re finally in our last hotel stay of the trip……. I hope. Presumably we will get to our destination tomorrow in Colorado (Mecca… Lost City of Atlantis… Laputa…)

Bun Buns are totally themselves. Momo The Destructor has made it her one goal in life to see if she can attempt to eat every single part of our hotel room, God love her. Remy is my angel, as always. They have been so good on this trip, despite so much drama and trauma (with Mama!)

My elbow and its stitches are NAST-AY! I’d post pictures, but that would probably not be very polite.

That is a CRAZY story!! I am so glad that you and your bunnies are all OK. That is just amazing that you were all kept safe during that, God must have really been making sure that you were OK. I agree that you are super Chuck Norris for breaking that window, later, when you want to enhance the story, you can tell everyone you broke the window on purpose I wouldn’t have let them take me to the hospital either until I knew my bunnies were OK. That is quite an adventure for them! I’m glad to hear it didn’t traumatize them – they are real troopers!

haha! Actually, MooB, I rolled on purpose. Oh yeah.

                                  Well, no…

But I am so unbelievably grateful that I am alive. Gotta admit… I’m not a regular Church goer, but when I started rolling, I let go of the wheel and held my head and cried “God save me!” over and over again until the car was back on its wheels.

Lizzy that is so frightening – I am relieved you’re all ok.
I think many of us would be frantic about making sure our bunnies were alright. It was smart of them to hand you Remy and the fact that you are all fine is great. (If you call nasty stitches fine.)

How about taking a train the rest of the way? Just breathe and go slowly, and you will be glad once you are in CO. One more day.

Wow you rolled 3x and are still alive and in good shape considering.  Except for your arm there.    And the bunnies are ok  thats a big relief.   Glad you are still with us.

Were the bun carriers in a seatbelt?  I can’t even begin to imagine them rolling and tumbling about inside their carriers.  You must have had your seatbelt on

Oh that sound so scary   one of those life flashing b4 your eyes moments.

Had one of those on Calif frwy.  A dog was crossing the road we swerved 1 way he turned back and dave swerved another.  We did a complate 360 I saw a car flash by and she just missed us and us her.  We stopped on the shoulder of the fast lane facing the correct direction.

And your brakes  what the hay?   NO screw!!!!!  OH I am sure they are gona hear about it

Thank the powers that be the One Above he answered you.

It must be such a relief that the buns are ok, and not too traumatised from the whole thing. I hope your not too traumatised either!

Well, I am so lucky in that one of my best friends from college lives in Denver and he is bringing a friend with him today to help us unpack the Penske truck. I probably won’t be much help, with my gammy arm, so I’ll probably stay in the apartment and unload boxes.

                                                          WEE moving.

Oh my God I am so glad you are all right and that He was guiding you and keeping you safe throughout that traumatic experience! I sympathetic for your husband, he was probably just as scared as you were.

I think that bunnies surviving 3 rolls in a car will have to go into the world record book. I’m pleasently shocked to hear they made it

You certainly had an angel watching over you and the bunnies! I can’t imagine how terrible that must have been. I was so upset reading through your post, wondering if the bunnies were okay!!!!

I find it absolutely amazing that you rolled 3x and the bunnies were unhurt. Were they just in the backseat? I’m sure you had a seatbelt on which probably saved your life but what happened to the bunnies as the car rolled?

So glad you and your two little plushies are okay!!!!

oh goodness I’m glad you and your bunnies are okay!!! That’s my secret fear when I’m driving on the highway… an accident or sudden stopping and me losing control or wrecking. And yay for your EMTs, they were so kind. You’re very lucky

Also, I can relate to your husband; about 2 years ago I was driving behind my boyfriend and it had just started sprinkling, and he went to brake to go through an s-turn and his brakes locked up going about 50mph, hitting a Ford F-250 head on in his much smaller car. My tires also locked up but I was able to slide through someone’s yard. All I could think while watching the accident was “omg this is how people die what if he’s dead there’s no way he’s alive” and I ran flat out to see if he was okay. The driver of the truck was okay, and we pulled my boyfriend out of the car and the man in the truck was so nice, just sat with us and made sure he was okay. Thankfully he only broke his arm (although pretty badly).

When we moved from Oregon to Michigan, husband drove the Penske van with our 2 older children, followed by a friend driving our pick-up truck, followed by me driving the station wagon with youngest child and two rabbits. A piece of furniture untied itself from the top of the pick-up and flew off at us. I swerved and made it safely to the side of the interstate, then ran across the road to try to get the large pieces off the rode before they caused an accident. But another car ran over the pieces before I got there, and then started heading for the side of the road, too. Straight for my car with my daughter and buns inside. All I could do was stand there and watch, wondering if the car was still under control or if the furniture had damaged it to the point that it couldn’t be steered. Yes, it happened in slow motion. Everything turned out fine, and they didn’t hit my car, but it was the longest few seconds of my life. But you, yikes, like I said, how did you survive? Bunnies don’t even wear seat belts!

I wish that my story had not made all of you relive accidents from the past! GH and Vader… wow. I guess those memories stick with you, no matter how long ago it happens. Too bad. I was hopefully for some nice, healthy repression heading my way. Oh wells.

i wonder if the buns stayed put and mostly unharmed because there was enough centrifugal force (?)… like when you swing a pail of water upside down but no water splashes out.

Like sitting at my desk, looking out the window, seeing SUVs on the road… It gets better, I even joke about it now. For instance… every TV show and movie we watched afterwards had scenes where someone drove through a wall. Seriously.. evry single one. It was hilarious! Like God was having a giggle with us.

As with all memories, it will fade over time, and yes, you’ll feel rather timid about driving for awhile. I think that’s to be expected. But I’m sure you’ll feel better about it the farther away from this harrowing day you get.
I do wonder if the speed of the roll was enough to hold the bunnies in place? If it were a tight and fast spin, more things in the vehicle are likely to fly out, I think. In a slower roll, objects tend to just slosh from one side to the other. (of course I’m no physicist…maybe it’s the other way around)
How is Momo today? Are her cuts better? And YOU should relax…you’ve been through enough! *nods*
Thank goodness for your friends coming to help. That must be quite a bit off your mind right there.

It’s just the having to tear down one place and build up another…getting rid of things you don’t need anymore…heck I should just open my house up and let people come get what they want so I don’t have to move anything! ^_^

Thank goodness your bunnies are OK- nothing will help your arm heal better than your 2 healthy bunnies!  The best medicine/miracle that could be prescribed!

We’re getting our new car today! Well… used. We’re getting a Subaru because everyone and their brother recommends it out here.

And we are OFFICIALLY moved in. I can see the Rockies from my pillow in my bedroom! It’s such a new experience, and I’m so excited about it. The altitude is kicking our butts a little, but we’ll get used to it. Momo and Remy are doing just fine. Remy has EATEN THREE CORNERS OF THE CARPET ALREADY….!

                                                                                                OMG BUNNIEEEEEEEEEES!

Rushmore, The Hershey’s Chocolate plant…lol.
But by far my favorite view was that part of the continental divide known as the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. Now I am a beach baby, prefer living by the ocean, but if I ever had to move to an inland area again, that would be my destination. Some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, hands down!
