I know we all go out of our way to please our rabbits… share your bunny slave stories!

        Here’s my contribution:

Frankie will snub any greens if they have even the slightest bit/scent of “plant sludge” on them (you know – the brown goopy stuff that can get on leafy stuff if it starts go go bad). So today (and many other times), I noticed that there were a few little pieces of greens starting to get sludgy in a HUGE bag of mixed greens for Frankie and my g-pig. So I went through and washed EACH piece of lettuce individually and separated the good from the bad just to please his highness and meet his high standards. It took like and hour to get through half of the bag… my back is sore and my fingers are still wrinkly from it!

          • I have called in sick at work these days just to be home and look after Jack after his teeth surgery. I think if anyone found out, they would think I was a little bit too crazy
          • Only looking at houses to buy which have good outdoor facilities for my bunnies…
          • Oh well, and then just the fact that we spend about $100 a month on veggies just for the bunnies. And something like $ 80 on litter box arrangements…can’t say my boyfriend is utterly happy about this

…I have told the hubby that when we buy a house it must have the following: A large garden for growing bunny safe nommies, a large finished basement, at least 2 extra rooms for bunnies, no hardwood floors without throw rugs, a nice patio that can be made bun-safe, and at least a 2 car garage. The basement and extra rooms will likely be for foster buns, the garage for storing hay and such, patio for letting the buns out to play in the summer, no hardwood without throw rugs for when M&M do their zoomies.

That’s right. I’m going to buy a house around what the bunnies need. I’m so a bunny person now lol.

^HEHEHE!  I think we’re the same way monkey!  Except hopefully we’ll build our own house in a few years….(sounds good in my head but not sure how it will actually be in reality).  I want a finished basement for the buns to run around, a nice yard, a patio, and short carpet.

When my rabbits (or at least Archie and Gracie) know it’s around the time they get their food, they’ll go up to the third level and sit there.  So I feel bad if I can see them in the living room sitting by their bowl and I’ll have to stop what I’m doing and feed them.  Also have to make sure I buy food they like: green leaf, romaine, parsley….Archie doesn’t care for cilantro, and they don’t care for mustard greens or kale (they like the greens that are crisp and juicy).  We spend probably $100+ just on their giant cage

Rachel – I always pick out the slimy stuff – it is so gross, I will not eat it either.

The house I WILL someday build is basically worked out in my head, has been for years . I even save magazine photos and have sketched out ideas.

Some of the bunny friendly ideas:

cement floors (made to look like tile) with radiant floor hear and lots of rugs for ease of hopping.

French doors that lead from the living room to the patio and bunny safe yard:

Bunny nooks in the kitchen (remove dogs – insert bunnies):

                Yea – we are nuts

I gave over more than half of the dining room to Otto’s gigantic cage.

Some day when we have a house, I’d love to have a bunny room! Something near the living room so they can hop out and spend time with us.

I totally forgot the most important thing….we gave up 90% of our office (you’ve seen the pictures of their cages!!)!  We have an end table that has a nook and they like to hop in it…I’m always afraid they’ll sit and pee in it.

                            – I gave my office to the bunnies,
                            – I repainted the wall green so that it would make them feel like they are running through fields,
                            – I bought them a second cage so that they can travel with me,
                            – I built a veggies patch to grow them things and then found out the chickens ate it all so am now building a second one to grow them things,
                            – over half of my weekly shop is for the bunnies and the birds,
                            – I had a saftey gate built and screwed to the walls in the entry into the study so they will be 100% safe,
                            – I drive over 2 hours to get them the hay they really like rather then the hay they will just eat.
                            – I defend them when people say they will make rabbit pie out of them of
                            – I became a vegaterian because of them!
                            – I do not let children hold them!

I totally work my schedule around the bunnies. Feeding time, med time, exercise-out time. The other night we were at a restaurant with my bf’s family and then we we’re all going to go to his grandmother’s for dessert and we had to make a trip home to feed the bunnies before going over. People think I’m nuts but the buns like routine. I have them on a pretty strict schedule….actually the other way around.

Also the fact that they have their own room and the living room has been pretty much transformed into “Binky Wonderland”.

Run in the store at 11:05 PM 5 minutes after closing time and have the manger yell at you because you needed to get lettuce. (yes I really did this)

We bought our house with an extra bedroom for them

I had Dave and my dad spend a day installing special flooring for them

Lots of $ moola in vet bills over time especially lately

Changing pee pads and blankies 5 times a day-requireing me to race home from work at lunch for eight minutes to change the bedding and give cuddles-for over two months and counting…

They have more expensive things then I do

Had shelter employees socializing my ‘to be’ dog to rabbits before I’d ever met my dog

Had to spend over 100 on new towels since holey bunny towels were not ok for Chuck in his condition-so he got the nice ones. Then there were no ‘people’ towels lol

poo between my toes-no biggie-need I say more?

I did that too. I was able to find a green in the exact color of orchard hay

I have boxes strategically placed around my living room creating bunny hiding spots so they’ll have places to hang out in there. Pretty unsightly, really!

I do the same thing that I did with my kids when they were babies….NOBODY is allowed to yell in the house. It scares the bunnies and makes them thump. Anyone who comes in the bunny room MUST use their ‘library voice’. Anything louder and the offender gets the boot.
The bunny room is their room…I just sleep there. I have nowhere else to put myself at night.
I ask them what radio station/music they’d like to listen to during the day. And when they tell me I tune it in.
No one feeds or treats them but me unless I’m feeling extremely generous or I can’t be there to do it myself and then only my daughter is allowed to give them their daily feedings/cleanings/etc. One of us must be here to tend to their needs (at least until she goes to college). Let the hubby do it? 0_o Are you mad??
I got a special credit card from the HRS JUST for their vet bills in lieu of insurance.
Bunny food and other needs get first priority on my shopping list…the family can wait or pick out their own stuff themselves (and pay for it too, for all that). We’re lucky I keep up with the mortgage.
I also want to find them their ‘dream home’…and if I get relegated to one small corner of it, so be it. By that time I hope to have a separate place in the house for the cats as well, so the five of them never have to cross paths again.
Being furiously protective of them is a must…to the point that anyone who even THINKS of poking a bunny tail (no matter HOW cute it is-oozing through the habitat bars like that) gets a kick in the butt from yours truly.

                                      I’m sure I’ll think of more….
