Elrowhen brought it to my attention that I haven’t posted any pictures of bunzo in forever!

Her post-spay recovery is going very well.  She’s even growing in some splotchy tummy fuzz  She’s a completely different bun, it’s amazing.  She’s still a little fire cracker, but she very rarely honks or grunts anymore, and when she does it’s because someone isn’t paying attention to her body language, like stepping into her pen without petting her and such.

I may need a little advice.  To make a VERY long story short, last August I was in an auto accident two days before my Cosmetology State Board exams.  I completed my exams with an injured shoulder and everything.  Now, it’s only getting worse.  I need to go back to school because I can’t keep my shoulder at a 90 degree angle for 40 hours a week.  Before I went to Cos school, I went to nursing school for like, a semester.  It wouldn’t count or anything now, but I pretty much have forgotten everything like requirements and such.  Plus when I went I was 18, and that was 3 years ago.  I’m sure there have to be a few people on here who are nurses or who know a thing or two about the subject.  I’ve got a few questions:

I think I’d like to do family practice, but I’m not counting out hospital work or anything.  With that in mind, which is best? RN or LPN?

I’m thinking about going to Hagerstown Community College because it’s relatively cheap, and most of the classes I’ll take will pertain to nursing.  However, my concern is does the “paper” really matter?  Will a job look more favorably on me if I have Penn State paper or anything?

What else what else…I’m tired & can’t think of anything off the top of my head, but I’ll post more when I do.  Any help would be appreciated! Thanks ladies!

lol – I had to move about trying to find her in that picture. How on earth did the board allow you to upload such a large pic?!!
She looks real pretty with the grey shading she has. She has it in that baby pic in siggy but I guess I forgot so it’s interesting to see the change.
Lara might be able to help you with your Qu. She’s a nursing student so hopefully she’ll check in.

Oye….that was a very large photo – I just edited your post pinup to shrink that baby down! If you ever have problems like that again, don’t hesitate to email me for help. But in the future you would just click on the photo and then click on the little mountain/sun link and it you have an opportunity to resize right at that pop up window.

                Aw, your bun is precious!

As for the nursing questions, I am not certain that I will be any help as I live in Canada. I’m not sure what the differences would be. Anyway, I’ll put my two cents in…

I’m in the RN program, which is the four year program at a university. I’ll have a bachelor’s degree when I finish and will start at a much higher salary than an LPN. It’s essentially the same job, but RNs have much more in-depth knowledge regarding theory and advanced practice techniques. In a lot of places, LPNs are somewhat  restricted in what duties they can perform (administering meds, etc), but this varies greatly, so you never know.

In addition, RN/BN people are eligible for further schooling at a university (to become a nurse practitioner, etc). However, I have heard in recent years that hospitals are planning to hire more LPNs in the future because it is cheaper for them.

Anyway, this is all the info I could think of that would be valuable for you in the decision making process.

As for your questions… here in Canada, I think most of the nurses working in doctor’s offices are generally RNs. And, I don’t think it really matters that much where you get qualified. Nursing is such an in-demand profession, that you wouldn’t have trouble getting a job. Even if it did matter at first, after you practice or a couple of years, all anybody will look at is your experience and abilities.

Good luck trying to decide which program to take!

                    She is precious!

I’m sorry to hear about the issue with your shoulder. In the nursing profession, there will be a lot of heavy lifting and long shifts required. Are you sure that will be possible if you have chronic shoulder pain?

Thanks for everyone’s help! Beka, that’s also something I’ve been thinking about. I have an appointment with my doc right after new years. I know from my stand point I’m ok with lifting and such if it’s not all the time. Standing, not an issue obviously, but constant lifting I don’t think I’d be ok with. I know I’ll need surgery, I guess I just need to figure out whether when I get the surgery, will everything be back to 100%, or will it be one of these things where I need to wait until my shoulder gets horrible, then get surgery, then wait until it gets horrible, then get surgery again, you know? Meh, I’m 21 and I can’t do what I had planned for a career. Cos school isn’t cheap, either. Right now I just kind of feel like everything I’ve worked for has been torn away from me, and in essence, it has. At least I have my bun!!!

Also sorry about the sizing issue! Thanks for resizing BB and I’ll def. resize next time

Eek about the shoulder! Was it your fault or another persons? If another’s… you should definitely take care of it sooner rather than later, as they have time restrictions of what they will cover medically. 2 years is what my insurance company told me. Don’t wait until you can’t bear it to get the surgery done, that usually means you’re causing more damage! Ask your doc for an MRI to see what needs to be done, thats what I had for my knee that got smacked around last march. Thankfully mien doesn’t require surgery! Good luck, and hope it gets better

It was his fault. He decided he wanted to be where my left passenger door was. This was two days before my practical exams. I’ve retained an attorney and all, but it’s still frustrating. I went to school for hair. I want to do hair. But I can’t. Meh Imma go play with my bun Thanks everyone for your comments

I would most definitely pursue this: the legal aspect. I was in an accident when I was a teenager and had surgery, but years after the fact, I still have chronic pain. In my chosen profession, proper ergonomics are imperative for avoiding career-ending injuries and back, shoulder, neck, wrist pain… so just going into it, I already have two strikes against me. Gather all the facts and if you have to do surgery, do it sooner rather than later. At that time you may have a better idea of what career paths could be a better fit for you, before you invest more time and money and it’s something you can’t do long-term.

Also, it’s only been 4 months since the accident. I would suggest going to your doctor, doing any surgery they suggest as well as ALL suggested rehab. Rehab is awesome. I tore basically everything in my ankle when I was a senior in college. I started rehab the day after it happened, and I’ve managed to only have to have one minor surgery to remove some scar tissue and a few bone fragments that had fused in places they shouldn’t have fused.
Also, if it was the other guys fault, make sure your attorney is aggressively pursuing your claims. In PA you have a 2 year window to bring claims against him, and he responsible for all your medical costs. I’m assuming you still have more floor hours to complete at the college? I know it might be frustrating, but he’s responsible, so make sure he’s going to pay for it.

                                I’m at Penn State!

I think all of the colleges in PA are really good. My boyfriend goes to South Hills and he is learning so much! I think every school I’ve heard of in PA is geared towards getting you a good job – like penn state.

                                Beautiful bunny!

Hooty, I should have specified, this was a year ago August. August of 08. I actually had to take leave from work because of it. I’ve been to physical therapy and such, and it’s only going to get so good. But! I think my last salon burned me out, which is horrible for as young as I am. But I found another salon that offers benefits AND college saving plans. Things are looking up, I’m pretty darn excited, especially because it’s like I see a light at then end of the tunnel with this whole thing. Things are progressing with my attorney, I don’t have the headache of dealing with the insurance guy anymore, life’s generally looking up
