        Hey all,

Just a quick one to test your brains. Little Jimmy May has taken to attacking her food bowl and turning it over. And then throwing it around???? WTF???? She then eats the food off the floor of her house, and she is still eating hay and veggies and stuff. It just seems that she has taken a dislike to her bowl. Is this a known thing? Does she not the colour red??? Does she notl ike plastic???? Is the food crappy????

She is still eating, drinking and pooping like a trooper so we are not worried about her health, it is just strange to get woken up by a bunny throwing a bowl at 3 in the morning

Any thoughts or ideas would be awesome…..

        Cheers

        Matt, Marieke, and Jimmy May

Throwing bowl = noise + mess + annoyed humans = Bunny Fun.

Try a heavy ceramic bowl, or a bowl with thick sides that she can’t flip or really get a hold of with her teeth.

Maybe Jimmy May is bored and wants some interaction so she’s tossing her bowl around. What if you feed her earlier so you can remove the bowl as soon as she’s done eating. She might associate throwing bowl means someone will come and pay some attention to me. Is she attacking the bowl as soon as you put it down? I’m with hooty22: A heavy ceramic bowl with high sides. Then you’ll just have to worry if she’ll kick it around.

lol @ hooty…I’ve seen Mimzy take a heavy crock and lob it a few inches off the shelf to land with a satisfying thud.
Before that he had a plastic bowl that would fit into a divot in his shelf that he would always wake me with…VERY early. I think he was going for an Olympic record with that.
Slater, no worries. Typical boss bunny behavior. Bunnies like to fling all sorts of things. Does Jimmy May have any toys to play with? Small straw mats or cardboard tubes make great (quieter) playthings.

Our one rabbit was doing that, she was just being playful.  But yeah it was annoying to clean up after her.  We went and bought a bowl that attaches to the cage.  That way she can’t get it.  This works great: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp  We also put an empty bowl for her to play with.

LOL! Yep, bunnies love throwing stuff around. At least you know a bit about her play style now so you can collect stuff for her to toss around. My Layla loves to throw things so we give her all sorts of stuff to keep her occupied. Otherwise she starts on the water bowl then gives us stink eye when she’s covered in water!

Mine have all gone through spells of throwing too. One condo is 3 levels high and Pringles would drop a baby toy off each then carry it back up to the top again. Like you said, always early in the morning too….lol

Oh yes – the “Hey I think the sun is rising soon and so I should race around throwing things” time of morning. You may have to take up the food bowl from her night cage – or secure it, other wise that baby is going to be launched. Have you tried willow balls or other things with a little weight?

My Thrower doesn’t like things that are too light to throw – he only really enjoys it if it makes that satisfying thud sound when he flings it…

rofl   yep   you got a playful bunny.     You might want to try those bowls that attach to the cage and can’t be tossed.

Ahh yes what an early hour for human to be woken up by slave driving bunny

Your bunny has turned the food bowl into a toy! That is a rabbit for you. lol Mine have all done this at some point. I buy those ceramic Corningware small bowls and use them. Too heavy for a bun to pick up. If you buy a ceramic bowl specifically for an animal they tend to be expensive. Any place that sells dishes should have small heavy bowls you could use.

My Marlee used to do that with her metal bowls, I just eventually was able to sleep through it. I never did anything about it cause she was just having fun, but she actually hasn’t done it for a while now. Maybe they grow out of it? Or get bored? lol

I think they are able to learn that if it doesn’t get a response from you, why bother. That’s only if the flinging noise maker is for the purpose of getting you there. If they do it for the fun of the fling and the thud, it won’t matter and it won’t stop.

I’d go with the heavy crock suggestion, and ignore the sunrise calls for action. If you can. I get up so early some days I wake Herself up.

                                    LOL

It’s a game-a toy. Now you know what your bun loves doing! Throwing things! There are lots of fun toss toys out there for buns-with rattles and bells and I’d bet she’s love them

And time for a heavier bowl -or one that attaches

Boople loves to toss his metal food dish, regardless of how empty or full it is. If it spills, though, it’s probably for the best at this point because he’s a fat boy and needs to lose some weight. Sometimes he flips his litter box trying to climb inside… thinking about getting a piece of tile or a flat rock to ut under the litter to weigh it down…
