so apparently dogs do not realize that chocolate is bad for them.  and if you leave some out on your ottoman by mistake when you are up too late to get a decent night’s rest do you know they will eat it after you finally goto bed while you are sleeping?  as well as eating other random christmas ornaments that you planned to put on the tree the next evening?  yeah.  its a wonder bogart is still alive.  where o where has my little mind gone?

Don’t worry, I stupidly wrapped up some chaocolate and put it under the Christmas tree…where my sister’s greedy pug got hold of it. And yes, I paid for the vet bills We all make stupid mistakes. I’m glad Bogart is ok, I know you’ll be keeping a close eye on him until your absolutely sure though, cause you’re a loving mom!

It’s okay! My mom’s friend’s dog once got into the trash, where her daughter’s chocolate birthday cake leftovers were… That was a lucky dog too! We all make mistakes, but it’s all okay. You love your doggie!

              Awww, glad he’s ok!

One time my college friends and I calculated how much chocolate a dog would need to eat to get sick. For big dogs, it’s actually a lot (as in, multiple pounds) of chocolate, but obviously for small dogs just one chocolate bar can be deadly. So at least Bogart’s a big guy 🙂

Yep, found out very shortly after getting Dakota that chocolate is very addictive for dogs. I believe the way it was put to me was that it’s like crack for dogs and once they have some they’ll do anything to get at more. Unfortunately for me that meant biting my hand that was trying to take it away from her.

thanks guys. good to know i’m not the only one! thank goodness bogart seems to have survived his binge without incident.

a colleague of mine had to lock her dog in their enclosed back porch once when she discovered he had eaten an entire package of prunes right before she left for work. lol. apparently prunes do not have the same effect on dogs as they do on humans.

Not quite the same, but many years ago, when Taiku was still young, he broke off his yard lead and tore through about 5 LARGE bags of trash. I caught him about halfway through the last one (no idea what was in the other four) purely by chance and yelled at him…his snoot comes out of the bag with an SOS pad in his maw…it disappeared before I had time to grab it from him. 0_o
At least his insides were scrubbed clean that day. >_<
I also had a German shepherd who used to love to eat the kids’ little plastic (PVC) toys. I’ll never forget how my daughter came in face awash in tears one day to tell me Kimba had devoured and shredded her “Jasmine” (from Aladdin) toy. I got her another off the web, but it was never the same for her. She still hasn’t learned to pick up her stuff. >.<
                      Thank God Bogart is alright.

@ C&C Oh dear! Naughty pup! Opening presents before Christmas! *wags finger*

(that last comment edited to be directed at the pug doggie who ate the chocolate wrapped under the tree!)
