So I’ve recently been reading a few threads about electronics that have just had enough…. dead or dying computers (BT, KK, MB…) and chewed up blackberries (Lintini)… and of course, we all have a remote missing at least a couple buttons, thanks to the buns….well I’d like to add my laptop to the list….

I’ve been having problems with it for awhile what with the completely shot battery (gotta run it using the AC adaptor 100% of the time) and the integrated webcam that wasn’t being recognized – but Dell came out and replaced the motherboard and that seemed to fix the webcam issue…. Eveything was fine and dandy until last night when, in the middle of studying, my computer just went ka-put and died.  Just turned itself off.  I tried to restart a few times, but… nada.  So I called Dell customer support and after 2 hours on the phone and multiple repeated explainations of my issue (no one on the other end got what my problem was… they wanted me to get a screwdriver, mess around inside my computer and pull out the hard drive and then start up my computer so that they could remotely access it and run a diagnostic… I’m like, it won’t even turn on, how do you expect to do that?!) they decided to just send me an entirely new one!   In three weeks.   I’m not sure whether to be mad b/c of all of the issues I’ve been having or pleased that I’m getting a new computer or annoyed that it’s going to take 3 weeks.  Though, THANK GOODNESS I bought the extended warrenty!  I do know that if I wasn’t able to recover all the files on my hard drive I would have been incredibly mad.  But I have another computer to use in the mean time and I was able to get all my files and pictures backed up to DVDs now, so we’re good.

Moral of the story:  Buy the extended warrenty when buying a Dell.  You’ll need it.    I will say this for Dell though, they try really hard to take good care of their customers.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering… i had a Dell XPS 1530.  Bought it a year and a half ago, so it’s not like it’s even that old! (Though I have heard that for laptops, the expected life is only a couple years)

Ok, this was more of a post to vent than anything, but… thanks for reading!

wow your computer was  young.   Maybe what they replaced wasn’t good and messed it up.  Thats great you get a brand new one .    I did have extended warranty on mine but it only covers hardware issues.

OH gosh have the other computers been listening to the saga of Pinky and decided they are gona misbehave too?

Pinky now what have  gone and encouraged other computers to do   naughty naughty

Hahaha, I guess. Bad Pinky! Yeah… it’s frustrating, but at least Dell is taking care of it and your computer is fixed now
