In theory today is my big day for news. The doctor should finally know if I need surgery. In September when it became clear that my pain wasn’t just a bump that would go away in a day or two we thought a bit of rest would be good for it. By October I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon and in physical therapy and praying it would work. Through November the pain just got worse and worse and worse until the doctor requested an MRI. At this point I’m just resigned. I don’t even care anymore if I need surgery, I just want it done if it needs doing so I can get on with my life.

This has had a bit of a positive impact though. My endless hours on a couch with an ice pack and remote eventually led to boredom beyond all possible reason. So I started to crochet again. I’ve decided that since I’m missing tons of work and may for months to come I’m going to go ahead and turn this into a small business venture making baby blankets. After all, where better to find suckers… uh, I mean loving, new, first time mothers to buy them than in Utah. There’s a local store that will sell them for me, and based on what they currently have to offer my blankets are unique and I can probably sell them for $50 each. I just need to get enough made to be have enough to take them in to sell. That should be the easy part, I’m halfway crazy from doing nothing for so long.

Let us know what the Doc tells you.

For selling Baby Blankets you should also check out Esty.com – great site. I love to crochet too!

Actually, while I was in the craft store I found a little book on making animals so my husband grabbed it and everything I need to crochet a giraffe. There are lots of animals that will be the appropriate bunny size cuddly toy so I’ll be making Freya an elephant I suppose. At least I know if I make it I can just sew the eyes instead of using plastic ones. Finding safe stuffies for Freya is so hard.

And my doctor is a moron. He used the muscle spasms I’ve been having as an excuse to write me off to a doctor for my back. He also told me that based on my MRI I shouldn’t be in much pain, just a little and that I’m too sensitive. I wanted to hit the guy, I have never been so insulted by a medical “professional” in all my life. I just want someone to tell me what’s wrong, tell me how to fix it and send me back to work before I go insane being home. Life isn’t that easy though so I suppose all that’s left to do is grin and bear it and wait for the doctor I’ve been referred to to tell me that this guy is a moron.

Wow yeah. I’d find a new doctor. Pain is different for everyone.

Hey, at least if this takes longer I’ll have a ton of baby blankets.

Doctors can be so infuriating! After I had my gallbladder out, I had pain that was so terrible I could not stand up straight or walk around without A) assistance and B) screaming. I literally could not keep from crying out, the pain was THAT bad. I had a bunch of tests done and the doctors essentially told me that there was no reason for my pain to be so intense, therefore it must not be. Fortunately, I got a second opinion and they found that pocket of trapped fluid, drained it and got me on antibiotics before the staph infection in my incision went from local to systemic…

The moral of my tale? Get another opinion, if you can!

That’s so horrible. I’m sorry you had to go through that. When I haven’t slept in over 24 hours things like gnawing my leg off seems sane and rational. I got authorization from worker’s comp to find another doctor. Now I just need to pray that the next one isn’t also a quack.
