        This is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

Instead of the 180 days she could have received, Elizabeth Carlisle gets probation, a $250 fine and 120 hours of community service. Those poor rabbits got no justice in this. And her sentence sets a slap on the wrist precedent for anyone who commits a similar crime in the future.

I know someone who got caught shoplifting makeup and received about the same punishment as this. This girl coldbloodedly killed 2 innocent animals! What was the Judge thinking???? Murder is murder!!!!

Here’s the article from The House Rabbit Society:

You can see the absolute outrage from rabbit lovers on The House Rabbit Society’s Facebook page.

The reason for the ‘wrist slap’ is that she changed her plea to guilty. Whenever you accept what you did is wrong, you get a lighter sentence. It sucks but it is our system. From what it sounds like though, she won’t be getting off too easy since she will continue to get the death threats from animal rights people.

I can’t help but smirk everytime I hear “you kill? I kill you! But it’s okey when I do it.”

Monkey sends thumps her way. And a note saying if she ever sees her, she is definitely gonna get bitten!

This is something that will haunt her forever. When she applies for jobs, she will have to say she was convicted of a crime correct? Since she did plead guilty and all? I can’t imagine how she thought she was doing the right thing. At least when Petco animals were sick by law we take them to the vet. If my manager ever asked me to “euthanize” an animal in the store I would have walked out and left my petco shirt at the door. I Don’t know, it makes me content to know she won’t be hired at many jobs because of this. She’s screwed. It’s too bad the judge didn’t take it more seriously with punishment. Death threats are scary enough O_o.

I agree, you can’t turn back the clock. The publicity on this will be her punishment – ironically, it was she that made it public to begin with. I know the push for sentencing was to send a message – however, people that have intentions to be cruel toward animals will sadly do so anyway and in a way that it is not discovered. I think the message that the public will not tolerate this treatment of animals is well heard. I cannot remember, the managers case has already been heard hasn’t it? I guess in the pet store industry this all may have an impact – make other store owners think twice – maybe even create better regulations and closer monitoring of the stores. All is not lost, this and other cases may be the catalyst for lasting changes.

Unfortunately, all I can think of is this crazy person with a long history of violence who recently went on a killing spree in Washington because he was pardoned from his multi-lifelong sentences and suddenly decided to take out 4 policemen.
Someone like that starts out as someone like this, in my opinion.

Criminal records don’t seem to mean much anymore. They are almost deemed as important a part of your resume as work experience…especially if you are a politician. With any luck, she won’t consider running for office.

This was a sick woman who needed to be put away somewhere and treated…not allowed to walk the streets with the rest of us.

Back up=question!! I was under the impression you had to be squeaky clean to be a politician-like no diaries clean-let alone records…am I reading your stuff wrong ?

                      Agreed 200% –
I also agree this will haunt her…hopefully. I can dang sure tell you if I recognize her applying for a job…well she wouldn’t get the job …at least…

lol…I don’t know, K&K…I am kind of talking tongue-in-cheek…but it seems to me that most folks in office have some skeletons in the closet…maybe not murder or other heinous crimes…but certainly every time they come to prominence, somebody finds SOMETHING illegal in their background.
I think it is a crime for a judge to let a person like this go free.

Thank God for vigilante death threats, that’s all I have to say.

Judicial system is so messed up.

If there are 2 job applications submitted for a job, both equal in education and experience…I think the tie breaker will be the one without the criminal record. People will know and see her face for a very long time and she’s probably scared to death. She has a lot to learn.

I still am not surprised, I am sure you all watch the Animal Cops on Animal Planet. Those people get away with so much when they abuse their animals. Sure they get them taken away and a slap on the wrist with a 500$ fine -if that. It happens all the time and people still don’t learn. Half of the time these people can’t even take care of themselves or their children and yet they still have pets and just giving them a fine doesn’t help the situation anyways. Sure, now their kids can’t eat for the next 2 weeks. Good job.

oooh k gotcha sorry!! I know what you mean

I am all for vigilante…Honestly in my wishlist…I have a few-two particularly heinous animal cruelty things in the past couple years-won’t discuss but if anyone is interested pm me….I found them by FAR sadder then this (which was awful) -when I first heard of them-I was sick to my stomach for days-and you know, still am…and I consider myself hardened and jaded. Both situations involved under age offenders…but I have hookups and know their names…May karma serve them… *cries*

I hope I’m not being dramatic I just find it entirely upsetting to the core and needless…

My thoughts exactly. May they get theirs soon…

It really bothers me how Judges fail to ackowledge the strong link between cruelty to animals and future criminals/abusers.

Serial killers usually begin their career with animal cruelty. Now I’m not saying that she’s going to be a serial killer, but I do think this shows a lack of appropriate human emotions. If you work in a pet store, you should have some care for the animals in your charge. The manager is equally at fault, except he/she obviously couldn’t stomach drowning the poor things will the woman could.
Jeez, I just can imagine the sort of human being who could do something wrong to an animal! But then, I don’t even understand how people can eat meat so this is just so far beyond my comprehension!
I have little faith in the justice system! Judges seem too lenient when I feel they should be harsher and too harsh when I think a more lenient sentence is due. I guess we don’t know what’s happening in the courtroom…and what restrictions the judges are operating under.

Years ago, my nephew’s dog was killed while the family was as at church. Some boys from his school broke into the dog run, took her to the woods, and beat her to death. The boys got wrist slaps because their fathers were well-connected in that small town. Within 3 years after, one of the boys had killed a person. Harming a defenseless creature is a real indicator of a scary mental state.

Over in my area we just had a woman who neglected/abused several horses. They said on the news that the most she’ll get is 90 days in jail (I think they said jail). It’s a shame really how animals seem to mean nothing in the system. It makes me made that she just got a slap on the wrist and it’ll take an actual crime that involves another human for her to go to jail (if that will happen or not). But at least this will be on her record and every place has to do a background check and it will be very hard for her to get a jail. She will have a hard life and am sure she will regret the day she did that.
I’m in jury duty (4 more days yay!) and have seem some of the crimes that go through and it’s a shame how many criminals are walking the streets.
