So, some of you may recall my ongoing battle with Coco “The Digital Television Cable Destroyer” last year.

I thought I had solved my issue by wrapping the cord up in both the black cord protector ( which she ate through…) so I then wrapped it in TWO layers of Black Cord protector ( which did not deter her at all). Nor did the electrical tape in which I had wrapped the cord protectors.

So I went to the Reno Depot ( Canadian version of Home Depot) and found some THICK plumbing tube. The Thickest I could find. With the Mesh inside the plastic. I split it down the middle and wrapped the Cord Protectors with the Massive Plastic tubing.

For nearly 9 months, I assumed I had won this battle.

Until Jackson found the cord. With a bigger mouth, he could bite onto the tubing. Once the Tubing was breached, I have to assume Coco jumped back on her favorite nemesis.  So, unbeknownst to me – the two of them were sneaking behind the bed and taking chunks out of the tubing. I found it when I heard them doing something suspicious….(Which was being quiet)

yikes! she’s a shark. I have one like that, I finally resorted to buying a roll of window screening and creating strips by folding it over several times with a piece of duct tape every foot or so to keep it closed, doesn’t look too cool but they sure don’t mess with it.

Oh yes, I wonder all the time what has made the digital television cord so Delicious to them. I can only assume that they know if they chew all the way through it that we will have no other choice but to rub them as entertainment.

And it isn’t as if I don’t have mazes and dig boxes and chew things – willow balls galore- for them – I do. I think it is the appeal of the small space that they like to jam into? I repaired the cord(s) by wrapping a second layer of the plumbing tube around the first. That buys me another 9 months.

And it is strange – she has access to lots of other cords (all protected) and doesn’t give them a second glance. It is THIS cord in THIS spot that she is hell bent on clearing.

Again I say, She must have been the genetic designee of the title “Clearer of all roots” had she been born into a warren.

This is the type of picture you hand the people who say “Oh, my bun NEVER chews a cord, I don’t need cord protectors!”

It’s trouble when they work in pairs! So this runs under the bed? It there a way to maybe hook it up behind a headboard if you have one? Another thing to try is maybe cover it with something same colour as floor so it’s less obvious to them (keeping the heavy duty cord covers on though obviously.) Even cover it in thick cardboard so they become more occupied with chewing that then what’s under.  Under the bed is probably burrow-ike and the cord root-like. So there just doing their job! lol

Yeah – this does run behind the bed. Just where the cable people installed it, so it can’t be moved. I actually pulled it off the wall to protect it as Coco was digging it out of the wall last year.

They do love to be under the bed – I have tried to block it off a number of times..to wake up to two rabbits furiously chewing on the wood base of the bed…trying to get in there. Whoever said Rabbits don’t have memories and aren’t smart should be smacked.

Right now the most peaceful option is to let them have their hidey space under the bed and just cover the bejesus out of the cord.

Plus the damn thing is next to a baseboard heater unit, so I can’t attach anything TO it.

I swear, I didn’t spend as much time baby proofing as I do rabbit proofing!
