This is a fun and entertaining treat for my rabbits. If you do create this just be sure not to overload the treats you put in.

Carboard tubes from toilet paper or paper towels: Pinch one end closed. Fill a few tasty treats in the open end, then pinch closed. Rattle contents in front of rabbit and let go. The rabbit will be curious about this new toy you’ve made.

That’s a great suggestion. I’ll have to try it!

That’s a great idea! Otto is totally uninterested in toilet paper tubes so far, but I bet this would get him playing with them. Thanks!

Though I do have a little gerbil who adores his tp tubes and he might not want to share with Otto 😉

My mom gave Nova an oatmeal container tube, and the bottom round part to Eclipse. I’m not sure about the love from Nova, but Eclipse must either love it or hate it as she has been on a destructive rampage for the last two days.

They’re the best! Entertaining for bunny and mommy!

I may have posted this on BB before but…

(Oh and please don’t mind the mess of wires behind the NIC cubes and my goofy looking TV set up… we’re working on it I’ll be getting a new TV and stand for myself for Christmas!)

                          Great idea!

I’ve put food in an open tube before but haven’t thought of pinching the edges off. Fabulous!

It’s such a great and recycleable idea! I’m glad so many of us know about it….and all the variations.

I finally tried this and Otto looooves it! He’s still getting used to the toy, so I left one end open to make it easier for him to get the food out and give him a reason to keep going 😉 Though now he’ll just chew up the tp rolls even without food in them. Thanks for the idea!

My dwarf bunny (lionhead breed) Pippin seems to be moody with his chew toys. For a while he loved pine cones, though he’d never really devour a full one. Just sort of nibble the edges off and that was it. But recently, he hasn’t shown much interest in them, or in toilet paper rolls. I didn’t think to try pinching the ends of the roll though, so I have tried that tonight! It’s got him interested, and it’s definitely rekindled his curiosity, though he hasn’t tried chewing into it to really get to the treats. He just tried to poke his head through the one pinched end I left open and available. I think I’m noticing if the chew toy is too mobile, he becomes frustrated with it. He’s 8 months old, so I’m still trying to learn his personality, which seems to be changing a little as he’s getting older. First time bunny owner myself, so this is all a learning process. So grateful my breeder recommended this site!! I bought the Maze haven and am really excited for him to try it. He’s stopped chewing at the one cardboard maze we made up for him, and getting him to chew on things is very important to me right now.

congratulations ladymoira and welcome to the world of bunnies. You’re going to love them and their personalities. Dusty loves the toilet paper rolls with sweet and aromatic treats. Cranberries from the grocery store, dried banana chips, dried apples, etc. are favorites of this household. The rattling sound keeps her and Chilly persistent to get the goodies. They hardly chew through the roll, but they manage to open one of the flipped ends! So far it’s like a game to see how long the roll can keep them occupied: 15-30 minutes.
