We just adopted this little critter from the Fairfax HS. He is happy and energetic and very very sweet. He is having a little trouble eating his cecotropes so we are working on his diet right now. Bonding is going surprisingly smoothly.

I guess this breed is called Rhinelander? Or is it something else? Many more pics to come as he becomes more situated and bonds with Vicky and Roger…

Very cute! He doesn’t look like a Rhinelander so much … he looks kind of like a dwarf mix to me. Like dwarf and mini lop maybe? I’m bad at breeds. Haha.

he has the markings of a rhinelander, but not the body type.

My bunny Grace looks just the same – but I never took the time to figure out what breed she is. I just looked up Rhinelander and that is definitely what she looks like. She does have bigger ears than Honeybun though, Honeybun’s ears look a little more Netherland dwarf-ish I think you should just call the breed “Cute” and leave it at that, haha.

                  Agreed MooBunnay! He’s super cute.

The markings do look a bit Rhinelander, but it’s such a rare breed and there are tons of other breeds with broken patterns like that, which is why I said I don’t think he is one. Plus, Rhinelanders have a very distinctive body shape. I definitely agree with Moo that Honeybuns’ ears remind me of a Nethie a bit. The face seems mini lop so that was the basis for my guess, but I really have no idea.

Cutus Patootus! Love it too!   Congratulations – he’s looks so sweet.

Rhinelanders are quite a big breed and they reportedly have a sheen to their fur. But rabbits could have breeds in them that don’t show up in the obvious traits so who knows. I’m learning not to be so quick to name breeds just from looks/colours etc. Especially when I’ve seen Kafrns accidental litter – Broken b/w lop sire and black Nethie cross dam producing 3 Dutch marked bunnies. Turns out the mother’s parents are grey Jersey wooly & a brown & white dutch. Yet she is black and out of her kits -none have Jersey wooly traits either.

Then there is K&K Kahlua. Chestnut lionhead whose parents are both blue-eyed white lionheads! I just found this out and think it’s amazing. So as to Honeybun….yes, I can see some dwarf breed in him to but who really knows. I’d go with “Cutus Patootus”!

Didn’t you say you adopted 2? So there’s Vicky, Roger, Honeybun and …..? Or have I gotten confused?!

We had Brambles for about a year and had to give him back to the shelter because he had a condition we couldn’t afford to continue treating 🙁

now it’s just vicky, roger, and honeybun

Oh, thanks for clarifying. I do remember now you having mentioned Brambles. In your other recent thread you mentioned adopting 2 – I had taken that as meaning 2 together. Sorry to hear of Brambles condition.

brambles was readopted and apparently his symptoms have disappeared, so im sure he is very happy with his new family. we saw a pic of him at his new home when we went to get honeybun.

Oh that’s great. I found the old thread you had mentioned Brambles health issues. You invested quite a bit in his care. Must be good to know he’s now doing better.

Yes, we were concerned honeybun was showing the same symptoms when we took him home, so we took him off parsley and cilantro (since he didn’t get that at the shelter) and are just doing lettuce (and pellets/hay) for now. So far it seems to be working as he hasn’t left behind any messy cecotropes in 24 hours. They were giving him carrot every day at the shelter and animal crackers as treats so I think he just needs a better diet
