I saw it in the pet store but i have no idea if it would work well on gizmo or if it could possibly hurt him?

        is it too sharp?

He’s molting badly i need to use something.

Oh we have one for our persian cat..it’s for really heavy duty double coats of fur. I think it would be a bit overkill for a rabbit. It works great taking out the dead fuzz hair that is underneath my cats top coat, but hmm I don’t know how bad your rabbit is shedding but I think you could be better off with just a normal brushwith medium hard bristles or a soft wire brush. Tell me it’s not that tiny little cutie in your avatar hehe!

Oh the furminator! It works well, but many members have experienced over-grooming with it. Let me see if I can find some of our previous discussions on the the best comb/brush.

Here are some previous discussions about  combs/furminator

I really like it. I try to alternate between furminating and brushing with a regular slicker brush so that I don’t over do it. Plus, I only groom for a few minutes at a time because Otto won’t sit still for a 5 minute grooming session like some buns will. But it’s fantastic for getting out a lot of hair during sheds!

Gizmo seemed to love getting groomed with it (i’m sure that will change) but he must have been SO uncomfortable with the amount of fur i managed to comb off his back and mostly by his tail.

I even got kisses when i was all prepared to get gnawed on haha.

Hairbuster   from Busy Bunny    and  slicker brush.    Great for long and short hair.    Furminator is so very easy to overgroom bunnies sensitive skin and leave rashes

just used to furminator on Loki for the first time. I suggest doing it very lightly and no more then about 5-6 strokes per area. and using it no more then once a week. It got quite a bit of hair out of Loki and no rashes or redness on her skin.

With all the furry animals running around my house the furminator is my best friend lol It is very easy to overgroom bunnies with it though I did Pacey the first time I used it but now I have the hang of it and know when to stop.

Bunny hair seems to be very “light and floaty” anyway- very messy expecially with grooming- the Furminator does not “hold onto” much of the hair- so it does work well but makes a big mess!  I really like the Hair Buster comb and it “grabs” the shed fur against the strip wound thru the tines so I can put it to the side to throw it away as opposed to it being released into the air.

In nice weather I take the buns out on our upper deck- put a towel on the glass patio table and Furminate away!  They allow it outside as they are “out of their element” but inside they do not prefer it- and if I am going to sneak any grooming in it has to be with the Hair Buster if I expect them to stick around.

I use the Furminator, very gently of course, on my Mini-Rex. His fur is so thick and plush and it’s the only thing that really gets any hair off. I alternate between Furminator, wet hands and a plastic baby comb. You have to be careful because if you use it in one spot too long it will take off the hair that’s not loose as well and leave a bald spot. Stormy hates it but I don’t want all that thick fur in his belly!

It also works well for my Mini-Lop when he is shedding heavily.

I think they should make a smaller/gentler (and cheaper!) version for rabbits and pocket pets. The cat one is hard to use on a small bunny because it’s so big and heavy. Also, make sure not to drop it. I dropped mine and some of the metal teeth chipped off.

                                • What about the furminator for small animals? The picture has a rabbit and a ferret on the label. Is it just smaller? Or is it built better for sensitive skin? How do you clean on the belly?

Usually, old topics shouldn’t be bought up, but a new one should be made But since your new, I’ll tell ya: There is a new furminator for small animals, if I am not mistaken.

I just use hand plucking and my bunny’s belly doesn’t shed, so I don’t bother. I notice the fur is very thin on teh tum tum, so I don’t touch it.

I JUST got my furminator in, so I’ll be trying it out tonight. I tried one of our work ones out on my bunny and it worked great!
