is cabbage OK?

 mom went out and bought tons of cabbage for some salad. she bought too much and we have tons left over. can bunnies have cabbage? yes/no? only small amounts or none at all??????

Very little and you would want to slowly introduce him to it like any other green vegetables. Cabbage has a tendency to make rabbits a little gassy.

i cut buttons a 1inch by1 inch square ofa leaf. he seemed to like it i will keep a watch to see if it causes any problems and if it doesnt i think i will continue the square by…a 1/2 inch more each day? because of the gassyness, how about feeding a 3 inch by 3 inch square…every four days? i dont want to give him too much gas he cant fart out  that would be bad

Well gas would most likely cause pain and cause him to stop eating rather than fart.

i know   i was kidding it probably didnt come across that way though. bunnies cant fart, right? yup gas is bad for bunnies. how do you treat a bunny with too much gas?   but are the amounts of how much cabbage i will be feeding ok? or are they still too much?

I thought Buttons was the bunny that is on a very restricted diet. Did you get him to the vet for her recommendation yet?
I would not give him anything that hasn’t been expressly stated as a good food for him by the vet. Isn’t he the one you wrote about that may be diabetic? The stress of new or difficult foods is probably not a good choice for him.

And yes, bunnies can fart.

I have read on various Danish sites that cabbage is supposed to be one of the main veggies, so mine eat loads of cabbage. Loads! I didn’t know about the gas until I found this forum. They seem perfectly fine with all the cabbage they get though.

That’s just what makes it so difficult to find out what is good for bunnies and what is not. I think the basic guideline is to introduce everything slowly and make an individual observation.

rofl  I am cracking up here.   Poor bunny having to fart all that gas out  peeeeeuw.

NO kidding aside  I was thinking the same thing with cabbage brussel sprouts and ohhh drat I forgot.  oh yes broccoli. 

I haven’t given mine a whole big amount of those things cuz if it gives me gas it must give them gas too I figured.

Their tummies hurt and they may flop around from side to side or sit on the litterbox and not eat for a bit.  That is a sign of gas as well.  Baby simethicone is something to give for gas and is safe for them even if you give them a whole adult tablet.  A tummy rub helps too.   IN a bit they will be out n about as normal.

vet says veggies are ok as long as they arent sugary. im pretty sure cabbage isnt. and bunnies can fart? whoa! so they can….

my bunny has no gas problems from eating cabbage.
I will give him a half of a smaller sized leaf but it will be spread out through the day as treats.
Broccoli too. He will eat a small/medium floret at a time.

I think it really varies from bunny to bunny on weather or not certain foods make them gassy.
Same for humans.
