So while I was in cleaning Fiver’s habitat today, I decided to take a chance with a little grooming, as he is starting to ‘tuft out’ all over the place. His poor face looks like someone gave him a bad shave!

We were doing great, I was just giving pets and then I’d talk to him gently and oh-so-slowly pull on the more loose fur around his rear hocks and he’d usually grunt and run off in another direction. Then he comes back and all is forgiven with a few noserubs. I am used to this behavior because I had to put up with it the whole time I was treating his ears. (which are fine now, btw)

Suddenly he rears around (I wasn’t even touching him) and I can feel the teeth smack my outer wrist on my right side. (good thing it wasn’t my lymphadema arm) But it didn’t hurt much and I just went back to soothing and he squatted down, waiting for his nose rubs with a satisfied look on his face like, “Hah! I showed you!”

I finished taking off all the loose fluff I could with no further incident, then closed up his pen, gave him his usual treat and went to look at my arm. Well it’s not huge, but he definitely broke skin, bled me and left a bruise! Yipe!

I’ve been bitten my both Pip and Mimzy, harder than this, and it never leaves a mark! I am wondering now if maybe he’s got some kind of sharp point on his front teeth and if I can get him to hold still enough for me (not likely) I’ll try to hypno him and check those fangs for any possible spurs. Last night he was all love and playing with this new “Twigloo” basket I got at PETCO the other day.  I was going to save it for Mimzy to see if he’d sleep in it, but Fiver got his teeth into it first and just went to town chewing, it was so funny! So thanks to this I’m a little more wary of him than I was before.

Strange, he’s usually a little love sponge…but goodness! I think I have Bunnicula on my hands!

I can certainly relate to this! My left arm has 4 little blue bruises on it courtesy of Mr. Bindi Loo. He wheeled around and bit me twice while I was trying to groom his underfur near his tail. He HATES this because it’s so thick and hard to groom. No blood, just teeth marks and bruises.

It’s funny because people are so shocked when I say “oh those are bunny bites”. I can’t complain though, Bindi is as sweet as can be as long as I’m not grooming near his tail or touching his feet!

“oh those are bunny bites” – ha, ha, ha. I can just see their faces!

Careful MM, you never know what are sweet little pets are up to.

Sounds like he got you good that time. It does make you a bit wary after that lol. Hershey can very daintily take a treat from you hand or come in and take the treat plus the first digits of your finger too, depending on her mood. And Lola can be depended on to bite. I had to buy a canvas apron to wear because she’s a boob biter and boy does THAT hurt!

those bunny hickies can sure hurt!

Pepe always bruises me when he bites. You won’t be able to see molar spurs just by looking (if you are even able too) without an othoscope. Sometimes the vets don’t even see them until they put them under anesthesia. I don’t think rabbits get spurs on their incisors though.

I’ve managed not to get a bite yet, but I’m sure eventually I will. I get plenty of nips. I do get scratched up though, usually on my arms. People at work eventually stopped asking what happened to me. I’ll go in and have a set of parralel lines running down my arm, maybe even a few sets if we did something dramatic like her nails. The new people always look at me funny though. “What happened to your arm?” “Oh, my bunny did that.”
