Just found out about this animal and had to share. A cute animal called a Pika that lives in the mountains of North America. It’s in the lagomorph family, a cousin of the rabbit and the smallest of the rabbit group. They communicate with each other with calls and songs and are described as flower-gathering herbivores (hmmm, sounds like a bunch of hippy rabbits to me, singing and gathering flowers )

It is sometimes called a “Rock Rabbit” and doesn’t leap as it has short feet.

I’ve never even heard of these animals, they live on the other end of the country. They really don’t look like rabbits, more like hamsters. Anyone out West ever see one?

Unfortunetly, populations are declining, mostly due to global warming. Well, I can’t think of a cuter reason to go green!!

Here’s a video on the Pika’s and Global Warming. It’s worth it, there’s something cute at the very end. Very “squeee” worthy.

              I love Pikas!

If you have a sec, go on youtube and look for “Pikas – David Attenborough” and you will see one the CUTEST videos ever!

Cool thing about pikas – they’re the only other lagomorphs besides rabbits and hares!

Oh, I love pikas! I found them during my phase of fixation on voles, another super cute member of the animal kingdom. Behold the cuteness:

i have seen them i used to camp in the sierra nevada mountains all the time and sometimes you can find them up there.

pika is actually the first part of pikachu. pikachu is a morph of two animals. i can’t remember the other but pika is one.

Should I be embarrassed that I used to think Pikachu and Pichu were like *sooooooooo* cute?

I saw the Pika highlighted in one of Jeff Corwin’s shows on Animal Planet. I fell off the couch laughing when he was going through the rocks, trying to find one then you see his eyes open wide, he picks up a rock and slams it down yelling, “Got ya!” Of course, he didn’t hit one but it was just so funny to see someone like him who loves animals suddenly do that.

omygosh, Jeff Corwin is *so* funny. I would laugh so hard whenever I watched his show. It was especially funny if some tiny little animal, like a lizard, happened to bite him and he would take on this REALLY goofy voice like “oooooooooowwwwwww let me gooooooooo”

Hey, whaddya mean, “WERE?” ^_^ Have you seen the new notched ear pichu from the new Japanese games Heart Gold and Soul Silver?

I’ve known about the Pika for some time now, being always interested in studying animal family trees. But the resurgence of the topic is always welcome with me. Thanks LPT!

Yup. my daughter and I want to start a Pika farm. Who’s in?
